-Velcro
-Stitch-through double-sided tape
Equipment needed:
-Sewing machine (Optional but recommended)

-Scissors
-Marker (Upholser's chalk used in the video)

Just be sure to use upholstery thread when stitching or take it to an upholsterer just to get the stitching done, it seems as though regular thread is not strong enough.

You have inspired me to attempt my hand at this. Your final result looks so cool.

You can do it! Make sure to use Upholstery thread rather than regular thread

Bro, It looks great, it's a great result for your first try, you're still learning and for your first attempt, you have something that's very functional and looks decent.

i had a 1991 ford G.T. ranger , and back then you could get that cover for around 60 bucks , i recently gotten a 1998 Chevy s10 wanted to do the same thing but you cant find those Velcro type covers anymore , been searching for weeks !!!! to be honest , i haven't even thought about making my own , but this convinced me to just try ....thanks for the upload and i really appreciate you putting in the work , ......by the way , i drove that truck at 75 mph coming from Dallas to west Texas , 5 hour drive , was really surprised how well the Velcro help up .....thanks

Hey bud, I'm glad I could help, just from what I noticed, you may want to get it stitched with upholstery thread, the heat here seemed to make the glue on the Velcro loosen, and regular thread doesn't seem to be able to hold up to the forces everywhere. Should be cheap to take it to a upholsterer and ask them to just stitch the seams though. Thanks for the support and feedback bud🙌

Nice Job! Thanks for showing the success and problems incurred with your project! Are the bars on the edge of the cargo box normal in SA for pickups? But was black fabric the best choice of color? Perhaps a more neutral tone to ease the suns impact on the cargo? For example bringing home frozen groceries?
@RiyaanMoosa
@RiyaanMoosa 2 года назад
Thank you. The bars are normal, it's usually used as a tie down bar for when there's large cargo in the bed, then straps and rope can be tied to it. And a neutral shade may have been beneficial, it seems the black absorbed a lot of heat and allowed the adhesive to losen. I also don't generally throw groceries in the back of the bed but it would be something you should consider if you do.

First rain it'll fill up like a bladder or swimming pool I'd think 🤔

If you're talking about the interior bed, fortunately it didn't leak. If you're talking about holding water on top, yes it does, so I'd recommend adding a brace bar in the middle to provide a little height and run the water off

@@RiyaanMoosa is it still on your box? A follow up would be amazing. You have tons of us that are very interested. Even in what repairs or mods you think would would make it right. Please an update.

Not going to hold standing with rain water accumulated in the middle, you need a running bar on the middle

I believe that was mentioned in the video, that is a requirement but fortunately I do also park the vehicle under cover
