I have a Peragon on my Silverado since 2020. Its just okay, the biggest issue I have is packing my truck bed full to go on a family trip. With it all the way open in the forward position folded up you can't pack stuff up against the cover when its folded because when you go to pull the cover closed it will jam up against the stuff you have packed in the bed. So if you want to pack your bed fully you have to pack your bed with the cover closed so then you have to use something like a stick or broom handle to push your stuff all the way forward toward the cab. And if the cover is closed it makes it hard to stack items in your bed like luggage, bags lawn chairs fishing gear etc because you can't reach that far forward to stack items. Then when you get to where your going to unpack your truck, you can't open your cover because it won't fold forward because of all the stuff you have in your bed and the stuff that's packed all the way forward won't allow the cover to fold open because the cover folds inward in a downward position and all your stuff in the bed won't allow it to fold open. Hope all that makes sense, its just something I didn't think of when I bought the cover. But it's a reason why I am considering replacing mine with something else that folds upward and not inward like the Peragon. We always use my truck for family trips and packing and unpacking the bed is an issue with that cover.

that was a main reason why I just bought the bak revolver x4s hard rolling truck bed tonneau cover. super secure, and you dont have to climb into the covered bed to get items out from the far side of the bed. Just unlock the tail gate and roll it up.

I’ve had mine for about 2-3 years. It fits my needs perfectly. It’s not water tight but I understood that going in. Yes it’s a pain when things slide too far forward but a simple ratcheting load bar across the bed takes care of that. I keep things in Rubbermaid totes to mitigate any moisture issues. It’s not perfect but no bed cover is. The fact that I can completely remove the cover in less than a minute and the security that it offers were the main selling points for me. A little creativity goes a long way when it comes to getting the most out of a tool.

I’ve had 2 of these. First one was on 2 different F150 and the current one is on its 3rd f150. They flat hold up well. The only thing wrong with mine is the Peragon label has yellowed. Today I ordered my 3rd. I’m gonna give this one to my daughter. I ordered the limited HDX. As for leaks I see very little. They also don’t claim to be waterproof. Plus my spray on bed liner goes over the front edge so I wasn’t expecting it to seal well. I really like how tough it is.
@iainfindlay8628
@iainfindlay8628 Год назад
I have had the ReTrax, The Peragon and the Bak Flip X4S cover. In my opinion the best by far is the Bak. The ReTrax is a quality cover but the joints wear out and the canister takes up a ton of bed space. The Peragon is very nice but the huge drawback is if you have something in the bed that is taller than the bottom of the cover panels are when the top is folded up against the front of the bed and that object slides to front of the bed when the cover is closed and then you try to open the cover, you can't. The first panel sections will hit the object and be obstructed from collapsing to open. You then have to crawl up there the move the object so you can then open the cover. As a result that space is not usable at all if you want to use the cover with a payload in the bed. It is. however, very easy to remove and re-install. That does not solve the issue of employing the bed cover if you want to cover a full bed load. Also, if you go through automatic carwashes be sure you engage the lock on the cover or the drying fans will blow it open.

This is probably the most insightful review of all of these covers I have seen! you should do a video review! I am between bakflip, the bak roller, and truxedo sentry ct. any thoughts on those? security and waterproofing are paramount for me, but durability pariticularly to UV, rain, wind, and sand are important and would ideally like it to support weight. my budget is 1.5K
@aurorastarfury
@aurorastarfury Год назад
@@11dbelt I have the Bak Revolver X4s and have been really happy with it so far. It isn't fully waterproof along the edges... it'll keep rain out for the most part, but when pressure washing it to clean-off the mud, some water did get in along the edges, but it wasn't a lot of water. I think if you have something that absolutely needs to be protected from water, you could put it into a bin and put the bin in the bed. For protection from UV, per Bak's recommendation, I sprayed on some 303 Aerospace Protectant on it. For ability to support weight, supposedly it can handle 400 pounds evenly distributed on top of it, but I haven't tried to really test that. I've put some lighter items on top of it while parked just for convenience (like sleeping bags and a backpacking tent). If you need to put significant weight up top, maybe a bed rack on top of it would work better for you? They make adapters that let you retain full function of the tonneau cover (so you can still roll it up/down) while having a bed rack installed. Of course, that's more $$ you'd have to spend... Just trying to help with some ideas, best of luck to you and I hope that whatever setup you choose, that you'll be 100% happy with it!

@David Belt I've had a Paragon cover in full use for a year now and can say, "You're not wrong" in this assessment. I remedied the problem of anything getting in the way under the cover folding area with a simple load shifting bar. You just lock it in place where the cover travels/folds and it stops anything from being able to slide to that area. I will say 1 thing, when locked (and my tailgate as well) it would be hard and very noisy to get in my truck bed. After a year I really am happy about my purchase from them.
@peragonenterprises
@peragonenterprises 9 месяцев назад
You're definitely right, the trade-off for no mounted canister that reserves the bed space to retract is the need to move items out of the way to open the cover. We designed the cover around the flexibility to quickly remove the panel group entirely and as much bed access as possible. We recommend a simple cargo hook to pull items forward when you want to utilize the entire bed under the cover or an adjustable cargo bar to prevent load shift when you don't need that space!

I had one for 2 years for the rear window visibility and here's what I found... 1: if anything is pushed to the front or slides to the front, you can't open the cover without getting it away from where it sinks in when you push to open it. You'll need to buy a bed puller pole to get under it to move stuff toward the back before opening the cover. 2: if you live in snowy areas, you will need to keep it locked to support the weight of the snow. If it's unlocked, once it reaches a certain weight, it will begin to push down on the front, which will cause the back to open slightly. 3: if you do have any snow on it, if you have to open it, the snow will fall between the slats and into the bed making a mess to sweep out. 4: lastly, if your of shorter stature with a lifted truck, this will be a pain in the butt to open. I'm 5'8" with a 2" lifted Trail Boss. While I can reach over the bed, I'm constantly pushing down within 4" of the edge. This makes it hard for the opposite side to compress easily, you need to be able to reach in 12" to 14" and still be able to push down without irritating your armpit. I sold mine and got the Bak X4 Revolver. So easy to use, can see plenty out of my rear window, 98% dry in rain, has 8" of wet snow on it right now and if I need to open it, I'd just brush it off and roll it up with nothing falling into the bed! Sorry Peragon, nice idea but I wouldn't recommend.

We're sorry to hear the cover wasn't a good fit for you. If you're still using it we recommend a simple cargo hook for pushing things back into that space (that would normally be taken up by a mounted canister) and pulling them forward when you're ready to open. Or an adjustable cargo bar works well to prevent load shift when you don't need that space!

I think the issue for me with this is partially the water getting in, but more importantly - the gaskets that let the water in themselves. In direct sunlight or drier climates - that's going to dry out and breakdown fast and likely leak even more. It sure does look nice but it seems like something that isn't going to last for years like a retrax or MX4 would

I had one on my my F250 for about 3yrs. I just removed it and threw it away. You can't open it if you are nose up a hill (my driveway is a little on the steep side). Although, you could close it if your back end is up. Water leakage, even going through a car wash was minimal and almost non existing even heavy rain. About a year and a half in, one of the hinges broke. Paragon was fairly accommodating on sending the replacement part. Everything was fine again until several of the sealed bearings seazed. Another issue was that i had to realign the tracks a couple 3 times a year. I haven't decided yet if i am going to go with a tonnue cover again or just buy a good quality toolbox.

You need to adjust your rails a bit, you probably have them tightened down to tight. If you loosened it up a tad, the cover will fly back, instead of you having to push it. I've been using this cover for the past 2.5 years, and I can confirm that this is an accurate representation of the water intrusion. However, it's utility otherwise is great. I have the double lock version, and no one is getting in there without a key. When you need the full bed it is easy as you show to remove the cover. And it really looks great. They are a Wisconsin based made in USA business, and they have great customer support. They actually sent me a new cover under warranty because of the water leaks, but the replacement leaks as well (but maybe not as much as the old one). If they could figure out the water intrusion issue I would give it 5 stars, as that is the only thing holding it back.

I've had two BAK X4's on the same truck in 5 years. For a truck that lived in a garage except when actively being driven the first X4 literally fell apart after about 3.5 years, I'm 1.5 years into the second X4, it's better than the first with some design changes but it still has some issues and it's very easy to get into with the tailgate locked. I have a 5th wheel hitch in the bed all the time so most covers like the one reviewed here usually won't work to clear the hitch and I need the bed space they take up. The X4 is defiantly better at managing water than this Peragon.

I've done what I can to reduce water leaks. It would be such a problem, but my gets quite a bit in. With a light to moderate rainfall, water seaps in. I've readjusted, reinstalled and realigned according to their video and print manual with no luck. Mine is also hard to open and close when the panel. The only thing that has improved my situation is putting a rooftop tent over the bed of my truck.

Looks like he’s got the Bed Rug. I’ve used them in every truck I’ve owned since they came out. Absolutely the best. I can haul anything and not worry about scratches from the truck and they don’t hold water and to clean you can hose them off. They also dry very quickly.

I haul dirt/mulch loaded by a bobcat. Will those damaged the rail either during loading or be impossible to clean out the track? It would be a pain to remove every time I do mulch/dirt

So with my weather tech roll up bed cover, is it supposed to hold a lil water on top after it rains? Or not at all?
@boldgold3885
@boldgold3885 8 месяцев назад
I have the roll and lock that was mentioned. I thought I might like this, but the roll n locklock is far superior. It’s not detachable rolls into a canister rather than the rattle trap that thing appears. If it leaks water what is the point. I really like this cover when it leaks water all over my carpet bedliner? What do you have on there now? Because I’m certain it’s not this one

Enjoyed your reviews but I'm having a hard time finding a true custom company who makes custom covers. I need one that will work with my truck that b/c I installed both a headache rack and a tool box leaving the amount of space less than what is offered in a 6 ft. bed. Since you've done several reviews on covers, would you know a company who offers custom sizing?

Your bedrug, who did you purchase it from?
@KurNorock
@KurNorock Год назад
I was about to buy one of these until i realized that you can't use it if you have anything in the bed of the truck. The cover has to fold down into the bed in order to open. So if you are like me and keep your 37x12.50 spare tire on the bed of your truck, you would not be able to open the cover at all worth the tire in the bed.

Are there any completely 100% waterproof bed covers, no leaks whatsoever, pressure water at carwash or during serious rainstorm? Not sure I want a pickup if i can't cover and keep the bed completely dry? Also, your comment about not liking to pressurize the tailgate seal preferring airflow, does that mean you don't like the RSI bedcaps which are designed to pressure seal? Thanks.

it seems like you had to drill holes on the side bed walls of your truck. Out of all of these, I think the retrax manual sliding is the best. The only negative is all the space you loose up front. I also like the retrax because you can lock it secure in any position and still keep your stuff up front out of the elements.

We have some classic edition models that have a drilling option, but all of the Platinum, Limited HD, and Limited HDx (shown in this video) do not require drilling. What you see in this video is Dan mounting to the pre-existing holes that come with the Ford Box Link System!

You seem to see people’s expectation for a bed cover to keep their gear dry as kind of unreasonable, but where I live it’s the primary reason to have one and just about any (full coverage) tri-fold will do that job. What I see as unreasonable is expecting a cover to protect your gear from people, when we all know that they only help to keep honest people honest, and trading away protection from the elements in the process.

Nice-looking cover - too bad it's so expensive. I had BAK products on my F-150s, but went with some Tyger or something off Amazon for my RAM. I don't need the security any more, so it's more just covering the crap that's back there. I was interested until I saw the price - and I get it - you get what you pay for. Great review of it, too, btw.

Don’t buy the peragon. It’s terrible, leaks at every seam. The backflips are way better, just a little leaking at the tailgate, which can’t be stopped by any cover.

Thanks for the video. Great job on the bed camera. Water isn't as much of a concern to me as dust is.Water is relatively clean and will dry quickly as it gets warm under the cover. Dust just makes a mess of everything...Any thoughts on that?

We recommend a simple cargo hook for pushing things back into that space (that would normally be taken up by a mounted canister) and pulling them forward when you're ready to open. Or an adjustable cargo bar works well to prevent load shift when you don't need that space!

This isn't designed for heavy loads, it's designed for security and flexibility (quick release). It can support 50 lbs of direct weight like a cooler or tool box and 300 lbs distributed like snow or ice!

The metal is so thin, it will just bend if anything is put on it. I also had a Bakflip and I’m going back to it because the peragon has so many design flaws. It’s really a terrible cover.

I want to like your video, I really do. There is nothing more annoying to me than videos with dialog so low that you have to turn up the volume to hear, but when the music starts it is way too loud. I find myself constantly turning the video's volume up and down and up and down on an otherwise likable video. Just my two cents, keep the change.
