Great job, buuuuuut.they can just drill the lock cylinder out and get it off in less than a minute.or pick the lock especially a cheap lock like that one.you can have the best security door,a thick safe,or anything that takes a key to open and if the lock is cheap then we have a problem.just get some good locks...pick proof and hard to drill.
Great work. Another reason I need to learn to weld. Not downplaying what you did but the Lock Picking Lawyer on tic toc can pick lock in about 4 seconds
I like it I'm going to try something similar for my 60's canned ham tongue to ensure it'll be safe at home as well as when I'm camping I'm also going to be welding a thick plate over the a frame section so a chain can't be tossed through it to bypass the tongue lock. I'll also be tack welding my LP canister tray down bur just enough to hold the LP Cans but not so strong as to create a point that a thief could chain around it
I made some that are similar except: mine are for a-frame tongues so mine are boxes made from 6 inch c-channel. I like how yours have guides for the inside piece. I did not put a front plate over the lock ( like the Proven) but you make me think about doing so. That would help prevent drilling or melting the lock. Great job, you think like me.
I believe you’re right homemade is the Way to go, no premade thing can fit your trailer The way you designed that. My trailer got stolen and I’m replacing it. I will definitely be building my own lock for it. As well as GPS and some sort of wheel lock. Since mine is basically a cargo conversion I was thinking about putting RV jacks in the back corners and then having those lock in the raised position.
Excellent custom housing to suit your needs! The only thing I can see as the weak point is the puck lock cylinder itself, the core can be pulled out with a pro cylinder puller or someone making a cheap custom one. Top workmanship. I need to make my own housing to suit my coupler now. :)🍻🤠🇦🇺
Excellent work. Couple tips. Use something other than the bolts that are holding your chain end to the trailer. Ok follow the chains all the way from the trailer hitch lock all the way back to trailer. Also the hand break. Same with the hand brake. I'm no machine guy and I don't know the correct wording but use some other type "bolts" that doesn't take a common mm wrench to undue the chains from the hitch. Maybe a star type bolts. Looks great though. Cheers.
I would say if they wanted to and they’re smart they wouldn’t even need to cut the lock. Just build up a coupling device or throw some chains on it or around the neck and pull away. Best security is insurity lol. Or lock it in a building and make it hard to move
Solid work. I'm afraid the thief's next development will be a DIY hitch that swallows this kind of lock and pull the whole thing away to be cut at their hideouts 😂crazy people!
Good excuse to buy one. I took a MIG class at my local Tech College. Best $130 and school class I've ever had. Most classes were maybe 20min instruction then just out in the shop welding and practicing
FYI IF A HUMAN CAN BUILD IT, GUESS WHAT A THIEF CAN AND WILL STILL TAKE IT.... WHERE I COME FROM FOLKS HAVE A TRAILER LOCK ATTACHMENT WHERE NO MATTER WHAT KINDA LOCK OR CLUB U HAVE ALL THAT HAVE TO BE DONE IS SIT YOUR ENTIRE CONTRAPTION ON TOP THEN TIGHTEN ONE PLATE AND OFF WITH YOUR SHIT AND YOUR CLUB
I would say lose the handle. Gives them something to chain around and tie onto their tow hitch. Even if it's enough to get them down the road. Other than that, brilliant design! 👍
Wondering what these devices are trying to accomplish How about a thief with a hitch and ball on their vehicle just backing up to your trailer and wrapping their own chain around the trailer tongue and put a carabeener thru 2 links to secure the chain and driving off ? Why does a thief need to use the trailer's hitch at all ?
I'm looking into security measures to protect two trailers I have. Couldn't a thief cut the brake cable, BRING chains with them and hook the chains THROUGH your chains and then to their hitch, bumper... whatever and drive off with the trailer?
Pretty nice fab Mike I’m not trying to be a jerk but I want to pour out that most of the puck locks are very easy to pick even the Master brands i bought a complete matching set for a enclosed car trailer that were keyed alike And found out about the picking after the fact sadly it was easier for a thief to cut thru the trailers hardware and get inside luckily i didn’t have Much of valu for them to steal as mostly all of thee normal items i kept in there were locked away in another location and i had to buy new trailer parts from a dealer to repair the damaged ones BTW i specifically bought a more expensive trailer thinking all those parts would be better and more secure than a less known brand and that was not true at all ? It sort of goes back to locks are used to keep the honest people fro, stealing your things thieves dont have any respect for your belongings and will do whatever it takes looking back at my situation I’m pretty sure i know who broke into mine as i had a neighbor that was doing Crack and tried to rob a taxi driver in the middle of the night only to get caught and put in jail at te time i didnt know of that guys drug problems but after his arrest his wife told us he ha been doing the drugs for some time and had been unemployed for quire a while apparently from his Fathers company as well
Yea they have broken in my enclosed trailer too. just the tongue lock is my biggest fear with that boom lift. Super expensive to replace. but as far as using a puck lock on the trailer doors they just cut the latches.
@@Mikefngarage IF you didn't use the boom lift daily or weekly maybe removing one wheel & tire would add some mental relief, CRAP you have to go through because of thieves YUCK
Just wondering what the measurements are inside to get the lock to work correctly? I'd like to make something similar for my travel trailer - I don't have $250 to spend on proven industries, but I do have access to a dad who can weld 😄
4:54 maybe the angle that shows a GAP or shadow, is that a 1/8 to 1/4 gap? Might be able to get a pry bar in there! ?? But GREAT design, the gray part of the trailer that is just in front of the reflector on the yellow part, is it bolted or welded to the yellow part?? Can it be unbolted where that whole end WITH the new lock can be removed by unbolting?
yea already looked at that wouldnt do anything if you tried to pry right there nothing to lever against that would help open the lock. Yea you could unbolt the whole thing that is why the lock covers that part. The main reason why I didnt buy the proven industries. My design covers those bolts. There is a pin that we will be spot welding as well. Still would be almost impossible to tow There isnt a slide in unit someone could just buy for that. Thanks for pointing that out.
@@Mikefngarage Wasn't being critical, 40+ years working in Q.C. in a Manufacturing company I looked at details LOOKING for possible flaws & failures, sometimes it takes me forever BEFORE I do something looking for the final BEST & ONLY way LOL
The trailer thief's in uk wrap a chain around tow hitch and ignore locks or use battery powered angle grinder to cut off locks diamond blades cut through most locks have you anything to prevent this if you have there's a fortune to be made in uk as we are losing horse trailers on a a alarming rate
I want to see it tested. Sledge, pry, angle grinder, etc. Most of these things I see get broke in under 8 minutes. I was watching lock picking lawyer, and I'm convinced they all suck lol.
Nothing beats a "Tracked by GPS" sticker right there on the hitch. Now whether or not you have a GPS tracker...thats up to you. Regardless, thiefs have to be idiotic to steal a trailer when the cops could be led right to their house.
A length of chain with hooks wrapped around it and the tongue and woosh away it goes. Those portable hand held bandsaw would chop through that mild steel like butter. Maybe add a wheel lock of some kind
you would need a cut off wheel and a bit of time. portable saw would not touch it. would take too long most thieves will go to the next one. There is no perfect lock system. Most wheel locks you can drag it for a few feet and they break. But I use both.
Give me 5 min and that thing will come off like a dress on prom night. MAT gas torch and a can of compressed air is al it takes to bust a lock like that.
I've seen them just drag trailers away using chains this wouldn't stop shit. I bet you I can take that trailer no worries and ill just angle grind that shit off when I get it home.
