Hi Rita. I used all kinds of eggs for my pysanky artwork. For my chicken eggs I purchase them at my local grocery store, for all the others I either get them from different bird raisers, and when they don't have any that I need I then contact Jodi at Bracken Ridge Ranch.

Most of the time you just layer the colors by starting off with the lighter colors, white, yellow orange, red, black. However, if you need to go from a darker color to a lighter color you just put the plugged egg into a bath of soapy water. Rinse the egg well, and before continuing with the next dye, dip the egg in straight vinegar. You can either let the vinegar dry or put your egg into your next dye.

I've done this design on many size eggs even an ostrich egg. Hopefully I'm encouraging others to try my designs. I try to show that intricate designs can be done on smaller eggs. For many the ostrich egg can be intimidating.
