Hello, I'd like to thank everyone for all the kind words. Many times the site doesn't allow me to respond to your wonderful posts, or to your questions. So, I'll try to answer a few questions here. I started my artwork in 1956, however it was in the early 70's when I first put my work out for judging and for sale. Okay if you'd like to know more you can search my name on the internet. Hugs, Lorrie Popow

Felicia Salamendra-Dvornicky Some times if you don't have another dye underneath, dyes don't take as well. When this happens I usually dye the egg blue, let it dry well and then re dye it.sometimes it may take a few tries to get the color blue I want. I'm happy you like the video. Thank you so much for watching my videos.

Eggshells can with stand lots of handling. If you have time you can take a look at my other videos. You can see that I also etch the shells. By etching with a solution I'm removing some of the layers of shell, and the eggshell is not damaged. Most eggs after the artwork is finished many apply a varnish to protect the artwork. Only shell that is so fragile in my opinion is the finch eggshell.Others are normally workable with waxing and dyeing, painting, beading, craving, etching, & so forth.

Hi Charlynn, Yes, I've used bleach too. But on these eggs I wanted to etch the eggs a bit, so I used The Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner. And since the egg will be washed back to white, I wanted to make sure in the etched areas all the wax comes off, so I apply the olive oil to do this, and it works great. These are my fun eggs, I'm so glad you like them. They really are fun to make.

Lorrie, not only have I always been fascinated by what can be done with eggs (aside from eating the contents!) but have a small collection eggs. As a little girl I loved watching the women making Ukrainian eggs with wax, etc. I especially love Delft! Blue and White is a fav color combo. Thank you for sharing!

Pardon me if I missed it; I looked through the comments to see what tool you are using in case someone asked already. I did not see such comment if it were made. Could you please tell me what the tool is? What is the benefit of it over markers? I hate to be so ignorant on such a topic and I do apologize for it. I just so happen to be surfing through and came on your channel. It is fantastic btw...

Hi Lorie, I'm not too sure what you used to get the blue off, some kind of toilet bowl cleaner? Thanks
@LorriePopow
@LorriePopow 5 лет назад
Lorrie Popow I like to start off using either Dawn dish soap, or Awesome Orange all purpose. If these don't take the dye off then I use The Works Toilet Bowl cleaner. Now with The Works it needs to be used in a plastic or glass container, and never in or around stainless steel, sinks, faucets. I roll the egg around in the solution for a few seconds then I use a Magic Sponge to gently rub it clean. The solution is etching not only the dye off but also the top layer eggshell. So have another container filled with water to rinse quickly. This process should take a minute or less. Also wear gloves.

Hello, I dye my egg a blue color, wax the areas I want to remain that color blue. Next I dye the egg a medium blue color, then wax in all the areas I want to be this blue color. Now I dye the egg a dark blue, again I now wax in all the areas I want to be this dark blue color. After all the waxing of designs is finished I then wash the egg back to white. If the dyes don't come off with just washing, then I will bleach it until it is white. Before removing the wax, I rub olive oil on the egg. I hope this will translate for you.
@lorelorella

I think I understand, the important thing is to continue to wash with bleach until it changes to white. thanks for his courtesy. again congratulations :)

The tool is a type of stylus or wax tool, it's called a kistka. There are traditional ones that are used with a candle to melt the wax in the funnel, but I like to use the electric. The wax stays the same hot temperature and flows easier. Thank you for asking, and thank you for your kind words.

Hi Rosann, First I want to thank you for your kindness, and for watching my videos. As for other products you can use bleach, or vinegar. I use The Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner because it's faster, and really etches off all the dye I want cleaned off. Vinegar will take some time to etch the dye off, and I'm sure you could use a soap, but not sure if it will get the shell back to white. I showed the fastest easy way just to keep this a fun egg to do.

Dear Lorrie: HELP! I am making an involved pysanka with the color blue and and after I dyed it came out uneven. The egg has a great deal of detail and I'd hate to scrap it (it's for a friend). How can I fix this? The egg doesn't have to be blue, but since I'm going to try the deft egg next, I need to know if there are any pitfalls. Thanks!
@LorriePopow
@LorriePopow 8 лет назад
+Master Blackthorne Normally if there is unevenness it's caused by either moisture inside the egg or it's possible that if the egg was cleaned it wasn't completely cleaned. Then again if it weren't cleaned then it could be that the bloom on the egg has been damages. This would cause uneven dyeing. A great place for egging help is the Incredible Eggs Facebook group.

once the pattern is the desired blues and waxed do you bath it in white vinegar to get it back to white?
@LorriePopow
@LorriePopow 8 лет назад
+Jason Reeve I suppose you can use vinegar, but be careful because vinegar also etches. I wash the egg off with such products as Dawn Direct Foam, Awesome Orange, Mrs Meyer's. If the unwanted dye doesn't wash off with any of these products then I etch the unwanted dye in The Work's Toilet Bowl Cleaner. Now to do this remember to Not work do it or around your stainless steel sink. Use glass or plastic contains, one for The Works the other with clear water to rinse The Works off the egg. Dip the egg into The Works wearing gloves and either very softly run the unwanted dye off or use a baby soft tooth brush. This works fast, and if left in or on the egg The Works can etch through the shell. So, work fast, and make sure you rinse the shell well if using this solution. Also make sure the drain hole is still plugged

Hi Lorrie beautiful work, can you tell me why when you are using the toilet cleaner to take the egg back to white, how come it doesnt remove the drawing you have just drawn and coloured?
@LorriePopow
@LorriePopow 5 лет назад
The cleaner etches the area we want to be white. The pencil drawings and dyes are sealed with wax, the cleaner doesn't touch this area because it's sealed off with wax. Unwanted pencil marks can be removed with mineral spirits, Ronson lighter fluid, artist eraser.

I love your eggs and your videos, Lorrie. How can I keep my whites white after varnishing? I've been using polyurethane high gloss but find that my eggs sometimes yellow in some parts. Any advice?
@LorriePopow
@LorriePopow 10 лет назад
Hi Dina, I've found that before removing my wax to apply a bit of oil to the eggshell. The oil helps the wax come off cleaner. Yes, in time just about all polyurethane varnishes will have a tint of yellow. Many are turning away from such varnishes. When you have time watch my video on varnishes, and see other products that can be used.
