I did this also, but I also used the high heat primer prior to the high heat paint. I was unable to get the surround off, so masked everything off , then built myself a spray tent and wore a respirator. 1 hour of prep and 15 min. of spraying, but it turned out spectacular. A new surround/ doors coupled with the labor to get the old one out probably would have been big$$$
Thanks for recording and sharing (I know recording slows down the job-so thanks) Looks so much better than 'Brass' - can't wait to get rid of mine. Only suggestion, is There is a Rustoleum BBQ Grill High Heat paint in Satin, and I feel that would have matched better and not look like a primer coat. Just a thought.
I was shocked at the replacement cost of bifold fireplace doors. Your video gave me the idea of painting the brass from from the 90s. Since I will only have a decorative electric fire log, this should be more than sufficient as I don’t have to worry about the effect of heat. Thanks,
For mine, I open them up all the way so that the top left touches the top right. Then lift up the doors and gat a sharp object to push the bottom tab down to slide out the doors. There is a vid.
Mine still looked great when I sold the house. To help keep the brass from showing through, you could always do a couple primer coats first, which would help hold the paint and keep scratches from going down to the brass.
