Hi everyone,
Welcome or welcome back to my channel. My name is Jess and I love doing DIY, making clothes in a "simply but pretty" way.
It's my birthday month. And I want to make something special for myself. So I chose a few designs that I really love for the tutorials this month. I hope you will enjoy all of them.
In today's video, I'm going to share with you how I made my vintage dress. This's the sleeveless dress with button down and side pockets. It's in midi length. So it's not only pretty but also elegant. I hope you like it and try it out.
To make this DIY, please check out my basic information below:
- Sewing machine: Brother Auto Tension
- Material: 2.5m of soft cotton fabric. The width of the fabric is 130cm
- My body measurements: 80-66-92cm. I'm 165cm tall and usually wear Small size.

Some suggestions I have for people who have larger chests (based off my experience): - It might help to add 1cm in length to each side of the back panel (so total length = 1/2 bust + 2 cm) - You might have to increase the top dart size between the front and side panels after measuring. I’m a C cup, and I had to reduce each side by an additional 1.5 cm - I really recommend doing a mock-up first before using the final fabric to make sure the top part fits properly. You can always just trim excess material, but it’s harder to add material!

I wanted to say that I did it! I made the dress out of my lovely sunflower fabric, and I am very pleased. A few notes that I learned. My bodice patter isn't quite right. The very top just angels a little wrong. Idk if this is from my own inexperience, or due to a bigger bust size, but it's something I need to play around with (it still fits really nice, just needs some adjusting at the top) I wish I had sewn the skirt into the bodice, I ended up using biase tape to finish that inside seem, which worked, but it would have been better to just put it into the bodice. Lastly, because I used a heavier weight fabric, the skirt is very bell shaped, which is fine. But I think if I did it again, I'd either use less fabric or try pleating instead of gathering. Overall, thank you so much for this video, Jess. I learned a lot and have a dress I love.

Thanks for your notes! It always will have some issues when making the project. But in my opinion, it's also the way you can learn and improve your sewing skill when you overcome that problem

I have been eyeing this dress for a while now, and I have altered it in my head now to make it exactly what I want! I love the shape but will get rid of the buttons (and use a zipper in the back), and will use the puff sleeves of the milkmaid dress!! Can't wait!!! Thank you for your amazing videos!

I love the fit of this bodice so I followed the tutorial to make the pattern to my measurements. It was very easy to follow and I learned a lot! I did notice, after making a mock-up, that the princess-seam (between front bodice and front-side bodice) did not run over the apex (highest bust point). I removed the curve on the front bodice piece and added it onto the curve of the side bodice. Hopefully this will fix the issue for my next mock-up.

Hi Jess, thanks for the tutorial foo this beautiful dress! I'm trying to make my own version and have a question. When drafting the center front bodice, you add 4.5 cm (1.5 x 3 cm) for the button placket. Later when sewing you use 7 cm (2 x 3cm + 1cm). Is the 4.5 cm correct? Or should it be 7 there as well? I would much appreciate your help! Thank you and best wishes from Germany :)
