When I worked at a radio station in St. Joseph, Michigan (like 50 years ago) the audio quality of the POTS line for a local intraexchange call -- the telco central office was two blocks away from the studio -- was almost as good as a class A line. If we wanted even better quality we'd just go through a Sony TC-110 with a set of alligator clips to the transmitter spades in the handset. Oh the things us ancient broadcasters could do with alligator clips and a Fiat oil filter wrench (for popping open glued handsets on pay phones).

I would be curious to see... I am planning a video to see how different materials work for sound dampening...I will add that to the list

@@DarkCornerStudios I thought Reflections can still possibly get through those blankets and possibly bounce off the metal and back into the mic 🤟 steel is cheaper though, and seems to be the easiest option to buy so might just grab a cheap portable wardrobe for £30 and use the pipes & connectors from that with some moving blankets on that, thanks man.

I have the same problem. Not a tools person. Nice video and great idea. Not for me though… I love my IsoVox2 + mic… which I mostly bought based on your glowing review of those! =D And yeah, even with the Røde I think the IsoVox sounds nicer here. You may call me prejudiced… =) I admit it did cost me some money, but I really think it was worth it: it instantly solved my @home studio’s ambient and neighbour noise problems. I’d be curious to know how much of my neighbours’ shouting and stomping up and down the stairs - and cars driving by - would be bounced by the DIY setup vs. the IsoVox. Admittedly, that issue was mostly why I went for sound isolation. I did apply some easy (no tools!) tinkering, though. Solved the inherent long(er) term breathing problem with a very cheap and very quiet USB powered ventilator which I suspended on a separate mic stand with rubber bands and a coat hanger, and directed (outside the IsoVox and from below) at my chest from a few feet in front of me, hence behind the mic, causing next to no added noise. Problem fixed: I can comfortably spend a complete, intense song session in my IsoVox without any breathing problems, thanks to this continual flow of fresh air. If you want, I can post pictures of my setup. Thanks for sharing this, I enjoyed the comparison! =)

@@seanwebb605 Seems an impediment. Perhaps being able to model a design before getting to the tool anxiety stage? The maker-pipe-minis are tiny plastic versions of the most common Maker Pipe fittings, with cocktail straws to simulate the metal conduit. The only tool needed is scissors.
