This is really cool Lindsay! I want to try hot glue now. I was lucky enough to get some padding compound at a thrift store and ever since I've gone a little nuts making blocks and sketchbooks haha. A quick tip, if you buy watercolor pads on sale, you can always glue around the other three sides and make a block! I did this with a Arches pad from Michaels- sale+coupon came out to about $7 for a 9x12 pad that I made into a block!

Lindsay, I have to say (as we in England do) that is flipping genius! I have lived a long time on the earth, have painted for more than 60 decades, sold more paintings than I can remember and still I learn something new every day! Juhi Manral I mean. Maybe you could take a screenshot and look at it and take INSPIRATION from it I don't think you should like just copy it... Understand what I mean?
@kathryncastanares525
@kathryncastanares525 7 лет назад
Grey Pinetree i dont think she is wanting to "just copy it." It may just be that she finds it to be something she wants to learn how to paint. like how most of us learned how. by watching how other paintings are made. or alot of people would just simply learn how to make it to have as decor in their own homes because it matches the theme or is a painting of something they love. what i find wrong is someone taking someone else's painting and selling it or taking credit as their own etc. but i dont think that is her intention. she may just want to see how one certain thing is made, then incorporate it in her own, as her own just as inspiration
@edithhhh6811

Kat Castanares yeah yeah I don't think he wants to copy it but I mean if she takes a screenshot she can look at it and maybe try to paint like that

What a great idea! I found spatulas almost exactly like yours at the Dollar Store! They were in pastel colors. The handle might have been a little different. I found them in the cosmetics department when I was looking for mica eyeshadow to use fir a shimmer spray. I didn’t find an eyeshadow I liked, but I saw the spatulas and thought they’d work well for pastes and gels when making cards or mixed media art pages.

Attention those who, like me, want one of those pink silicone spatula things she used to smooth on the glue: After watching this I got a bit obsessed with wanting one of them. In my head I knew I could make use of that tool in many of my crafting hobbies. I'm usually able to find things that I see like this. I searched Amazon with every term and word combo I could think of that would define what that was; silicone, rubber, chisel, pink, tool, and on and on. I Googled those terms. I went to every craft website I could find and searched there. After a few weeks I had to surrender, defeated, by a tiny silicone spatula. Fast forward to yesterday. I'm in Michaels looking at the various types of Mod Podge for a project I'm working on. I let my eyes wander from the top down and then something caught my eye. I could barely believe it but there it was. In a pack of Mod Podge tools. It was destined to be lol. TL; DR it's a Mod Podge tool sold at Michaels

This is really great! Instead of buying a watercolor block, you can just buy a pad and use this technique to turn it into a block. Arches watercolor blocks can cost twice as much as their pad counterparts, so this saves some money.

I have made my own paper pads for notes with this method and had been thinking about doing my own watercolor stack for painting adventures too. Great minds etc... LOL. Those of us who live in the south might want to reconsider using hot glue though; I live in Texas and the trunk of my car probably can get up to 120 to 130 degrees F in August when it's in the low 100's Starting around 11 AM and the hot glue would just make a mess when it melts in my art supply bag so I use Aleene's Tacky Glue to secure the edges of my paper pads. It's not as fast as the hot glue but the extra time it takes is well worth it.

+Rich Boden I hope you'll post your results with that here, I'd like to know how it works out! Although past experience with home decor made with high temp glue in a house where there was a power outage for a few hours resulted in that home decor being on the floor from melting glue. I gave up on hot glue here in Texas long ago.

I bought my MIL one of these KOI paint boxes for taking with her on her trip to England (shes a brilliant water colourist). I used your review to choose them. (I chose this over the cotmans because I wanted her to not have to mix much .. just sit and do a quick paint.. she is going with friends so her painting time may be limited.) I bought some water colour postcard paper pad.. but I might make her one of these to, this is a totally brilliant idea! Thank you!!

I have more then enough that I can make small tablets for envelopes, money envelopes, A4 cards, flip books. I can share with my sister. I'm like you, I don't always like all the sheets. I can make a tablet and use those for a tablet for my purse. Love this idea! It's not only for my paint pallet cases. Thanks Lindsey! Enjoy celebrating your day!!!

THANK YOU for all your art and craft videos, but especially this. This video was in my suggested videos, but I only read the title. Tonight I picked up a pad of Canson XL cold press watercolor paper on clearance at Walmart. Earlier this summer, I bought a high temp hot glue gun at a garage sale (my first glue gun and I'm 51. Why did I not get one sooner??). I looked up your video and gave it a try. I used binder clips to hold the pages together. It worked great! I need to work on my glue technique, but it's functional. I also had a silicone wedge brush I picked up on clearance at Hobby Lobby. As cheap as it was to make this block, I can make several and have multiple paintings going at once. I really didn't want to mess with wetting and stretching paper, so I got this is a good solution! I may cut some masonite down to use as the backing. Anyone do that or another cardboard alternative? I wonder how much buckling there is with the last few pages in a block.
