I too have an insulated ice fishing tent. I am in the mid atlantic and it often gets near freezing or below. I use a space heater, and hook up a light as well inside the tent. I was having issues with venting so I added an electric exhaust fan that fits directly into the vent in the roof of the tent. This is a very good fan and I still had issues with the smoke. I could stand sitting in it but when I came out boy did I smell like an old ashtray. If I could perfect the venting my setup would be perfect.
I live in Canada and I came up with the same thing. I found a ice fishing hut on Amazon. I bought a few extras that I needed. And now I can enjoy cigars in the winter
I’ve had to make a few mods to my setup but I feel it’s dialed in now. I was getting some rain leaking through the top which got a few things wet inside so I added a field tarp over the top of the ice tent and that fixed it (still raining in PA). I added Reflectix to cover the floor and then a thin shop carpet over that to help keep the heat inside. I linked 115ft of LED lights around the ceiling for warm ambient lighting. I bought an outside recliner, air purifier, and a gooseneck iPad stand holder along with a small end table. It is a fantastic setup. No issues with ventilation with the air purifier going and the tent has 2 vents on the upper side panels. I look forward to my cigar time now!
This is warning my soul as i sit on my ice cold patio it 30 degree weather enjoying your video and a cigar. Thanks for keeping the content fresh and interesting.
You are the best man I just was thinking about smoking in this cold snowing winter we have here in Belgium and you just come up with the right idea top man 😊
I live in upstate NY and I use a hunting blind. It vents super well and It's better in the elements of snow and ice. Usually I'm good with a space heater but when it's really cold I use the Mr. Buddy propane heater.
I just recently started smoking Cigars and man it's called outside - this is a great solution for when I move into a house in a couple of years. Dreaming big is what it's all about and until then I'll be freezing, but smoking classy.
After plowing snow all morning I’m relaxing with a San Cristobal in my Winter Fortress of Solitude Mini Cigar Lounge. I used an Ozark Trail last year but a storm wrecked it. I replaced it with a 3 man hunting blind this year. Great place. It’s up to 30° outside and toast in here. Even the cat enjoys it. :D
I love this. I have been trying to figure out how I can smoke my cigars in this brutal Wisconsin winter weather. I have all these things already and will be trying this soon!
Excited to share that my buddy and I are about to transform his garage into a D.I.Y. Lounge! (Columbia Maryland) It was used for storage/home gym, not cars, so it was easy to convince him of the idea! Just got him into cigars 3 or so months ago🤘🏽 love winter! lol
I turned an old garden shed into a lounge in northern Minnesota. I used a bathroom exhaust vent for the air and an inexpensive wood stove for heat. Worked like a charm. I can't say that I would feel safe smoking inside a nylon tent, even if was treated with fire retardant. Hard to beat the price, though.
I'm currently just dressing as warm as possible as if I'm going on a winter hike. I'm in Canada and it gets super cold where I am. There is a charm to being outdoors as long as you're dressed for it.
Checking in from eastern PA. 30 degrees and sitting next to the fire with the oil lamp burning. Chilly but it makes you appreciate the fire more! Cheers.
Used to use a pop up ice fishing house with propane heater and Christmas lights on the back deck. Have a heated shed I use now. Tim, you'll have to come up to Bemidji for a -30° cigar outing.😁 My friend, Lee, says he has put out the invitation to you.👍
My buddies & I made a teepee style tent for our cigar smoking. With small draft tunnel for a fire and smoke, it quickly became a popular winter spot for everyone. Nothing beats smoking a cigar like smoking a cigar next to an open fire. Just becareful not to let the embers touch the cigar
That's great. Hello from Brooklyn, NY. I enclosed my terrace with a tarp held with two Steel Load Lock Bar for Cargo one at the top and another at the bottom, basically building a wall. (think of a curtain being held by a tension rod at both ends) heated by a pair of heaters. finishing touch: added a white picnic sheet to watch you channel and movies. can fit 5 comfortably, once a while 7 people.
This makes me want to tarp-off an area beneath our deck and set up a space heater. I figure the space between the deck boards above would go a long way in venting the heated air, but it might need a fan as well…
Great option. I have this space under a 3 season porch, thinking of using a small inline duct fan (4" or 6") for venting, small space heater and a RENPHO for after to clean the air in the space.
I have an variable speed 4” exhaust fan with a charcoal filter and it works so well even on lowest speed. If the fan is going more than half way up it sucks the walls of my tent in and it’s a 10’x10’ tent for reference. 6” would move an incredible amount of air for you if you need one that large
"Just under 50 degrees" makes me chuckle. Shorts weather! All a matter of perspective. Greetings from Green Bay, WI! I sit under a patio heater in the garage. Open up the doors. All set!
I had the same chuckle, ha. I'm sitting here in Canada looking for a solution. :) I've got a small patio heater and a pretty sheltered porch, but when it gets below freezing with any wind I'm just not going to be smoking. I can't afford a better solution.
Another great video Tim. I have a screened-in porch that obviously does not retain heat. So, I do not have to worry about the smoke however, heating will be an issue. I use a table top fire heater which keeps me pretty warm and it's been down in the low 20s here in central Pennsylvania already this winter. Not the most ideal setup however, it's the best I have for now. I plan to put up clear plastic for the large windows to keep in some of the heat. Thanks again for the video and great ideas and keep them coming. Stay safe folks
Man up! I've been in my Carhart jacket, in a snow storm, and smoking a stick. Seriously, I would be careful with a heater inside a tent. Take it from a retired Firefighter.
I also live in Arizona and, sadly, I don't get to smoke cigars that often during the colder months. I enjoy smoking cigars in the evening to relax from the day and the temps can get quite chilly in the evening. Unfortunately, our HOA prohibits any tents being put up in the yard. We even got dinged for having a chimenea. No fires for warmth. A local lounge would be an option, but they are rather small and often packed because a lot of people run into the same issues. On top of that, football season seems to increase the crowd as well. For now, I just sit outside during the afternoon on my days off to enjoy a cigar. This all just adds to the reason why this isn't my favorite time of year. 😏
I have a 4 man Ice fishing tent that pops up super easy and a Big Buddy propane heater. Its gotten me through 2 Northern NY winters toasty and dry. Venting seems to be my biggest challenge. Its been difficult to vent the smoke and retain the heat. The heat tends to go directly out with the smoke lol.
I’ve been looking for ideas so that I don’t have to sit through the colder months without enjoying a good ol’ cigar. This is definitely going to my patio this winter!
We don’t get a ton of snow here in the Midwest, but what’s the snow/ice load of that tent, lol! Great idea on the cheap! We have a covered patio and put up outdoor curtains. Then use a solo stove with extra long heating pad to sit on. It’s not probably as warm as your tent, but it gets the job done.
I just smoked a robusto on my back deck in 26 degree power outage causing ice storm.. powers still out and I just wanna smoke another 😂 definitely prefer the indoor set up.
I’m going to take this idea and add to it going to put it in my stock trailer for added protection from the wind living in the panhandle it has kept us from enjoying a cigar
My wife, her daughter, and her daughters daughter and I did a day trip to our camping spot out in BFE. When we got there the snow was a few inches thick and the forest was beautiful! I started a fire then lit up a Plasencia Alma Fuerte Sixto i. My wife cooked up some medium rare steaks and potatoes on our antique Griswold 8" skillet. We ate, packed up, put the fire out and back home all in the span of 4 hours. The steaks were amazing and the Plasencia melded very well with the steak! I can't wait to do it again. Temperature was around 29. No tent used though.
yeah, I agree. The setup I came up with wouldn't likely work if it got too cold. But I think the space heater is a good solution if you got a really good tent. Seems like some people in freezing areas use the Eskimo tents, and then a space heater seems to work pretty well even when it's really really cold.
It's like the grown-man's version of a pillow fortress. I would recommend one of those mini bucket grills with some cinder-blocks and load it up with wood charcoals so you can grill while you smoke.
I'm always amazed with the amount of people that don't smoke indoors. I only smoke in the lounge and my wife says it makes the place smell nice. Just remove ashtrays and nubs so you don't get that sour stale smell. I smoke about 2/3 cigars a week so I guess if you smoke that per day it might get a bit rough. Lol.
I live in Canada and I am intrigued, I wonder if I could do a setup in -13 farenheit and it still be good. I do have a shed too so maybe heat in the shed and I would just have to find a way to ventilate the smoke.
Fireplaces have a natural air draw so, especially if you have a raised hearth, if you can manage to sit close enough, you get natural warmth, ambiance, and a fine session. Just keep your cold drink on the other side of you. You can watch the smoke being drawn up the chimney - along with the heat in your house…
I enjoyed smoking on my balcony all Summer, but there is a new cigar lounge in my area I'm going to check out. That will most likely be my winter smoke spot if I like it.
My recommendation is to spend all your money on a good heater that heat a space bigger than what you have, like the propane powered dyna glo convection heater. I will post a couple of pictures on the Facebook group page
I've been in my garden shed here in Northern Michigan. I have a "my buddy propane heater and it was 18 degrees this morning. The heater works well and might be hitting 50, but it's still cold. When the single digits hit, I might be reduced to cigarillos and frostbite.
The little chill in the air just makes it easier to keep the bourbon cold. I’m Albertan, and the average temperature my last week at work was around minus 30 before windchill. I work outdoors? So 18 degrees sounds lovely. It’s all relative.
I have a big old 2 story home that already kind of smells like dusty books so I took the spare bedroom upstairs threw a window fan with an exhaust setting in a window and perch my cigar smoking ass right next to it. Seems to do the trick nobody complains of the smell when they come through the front door. If all else fails the house came with a whole house exhaust that will suck the O2 from the house so I'm sure a little cigars fumes don't stand a chance.
Wait for black friday, home depot always has the tower propane heaters for 99. Got one 3 yrs ago, bought another extra one this year cause we like em so much. TOASTY for 3 or 4 ppl even at medium. I keep mine on low when solo cigar
Cool idea. Wouldn't do me any good being its -40°F up here in alaska where I live 😂 Its basically impossible to find a good way to stay warm and smoke a good stogie :(
I want to see this in action around 30 degrees. Doesn’t the fan just pull the heat out also? I’m very curious and would definitely consider setting this up…
Haha I was thinking the same thing when I watched that. Heck 50 degrees is down right balmy! Great video tho! I have been talking with my buddy in Texas (I live in central NY) and we chat over FaceTime and have cigars. We were talking about a very similar setup for me to be able to smoke during the winter months! I’d probably go the ice shanty route and a propane heater so once less thing to plug in! Thanks for the great vid!
@@joeman70 I’m thinking of getting one of those infrared heaters to mount on the roof of my covered back deck. The kind you see/feel when you walk into like a Walmart entryway.
@@NYEXPRESS56 let me know how that goes! Those things put out a lot of heat! I’d be afraid I’d burn something down!! This little propane heaters are great too. I was out ice fishing with a buddy and he had the insulated tent with one of those heaters and it was single digits with windchill and we were inside with jackets off as warm as you please. I was amazed!!
