In this video, I have made a wire harness tape wrapping machine. It is a very simple project - but will help a lot if you are working with wires a lot.
If you're looking for a simple and easy way to wrap wire harnesses, then this machine is for you! This machine is easy to use, and won't take up much space. If you're looking for a way to improve your wire wrapping, then this is the video for you!
Main used parts:
- 20T idler pulleys (with and without teeth): shorturl.at/cgkB1
- Timing Belt Pulley for motor 60T: shorturl.at/cmL05
- Timing Belt (length according your setup): shorturl.at/ilBS8
- Motor 12V 319rpm: shorturl.at/tvTZ7
- Speed controller: shorturl.at/jnqDP
- Pedal switch: shorturl.at/boLT8

You would be amazed what kind of machines exist in a professional production environment. the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ru-vid.comUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. That drive "mechanism" is genius for it's simplicity. I also love your method for cutting out circles with a router, again simple but very effective. The only thing that would improve on an already excellent idea is a way of getting a bit more tension on the tape, winding the bundle more tightly.
@SSGTVolken
@SSGTVolken Год назад
Make the bolt holding the tape roll longer. Add a small spring and washer between the nut and tape roll. Loosen/tighten the nut to change the tension. Like a packaging tape dispenser.
@carlbruschnigjr1757
@carlbruschnigjr1757 2 месяца назад
I was thinking the same thing. There would be two possibles ways to do it, one would be to elongate the motor mounting setup, the other and probably easier way is to have and adjustable idler pulley on the belt. For the tape, use a wingnut to adjust the tape tension.
@duncanhoward5045

Suggestion: If you add a guide to centre the cable firmly and increase the rotational friction on the tape holder, you can use this to wrap cables tightly.

It would have made the cabinets look a lot better. The reason nobody is commenting on that stuff is because the video is not about how he made his own tools, it’s about the wire wrapping machine. If people want to give him kudos for his saw, and so on, they’d do it on the video were he made those tools. I am assuming he made those videos because this is first of his videos I have seen. Speaking of… there might also be a lot of other people who’s this video is the first or they have watched his entire channel yet. (No, I do not know if you have watched his entire channel or not. I worked in a factory that produced harnesses for Ford & Chrysler and the industrial version of this has a couple of things that make the finished product look even better. A wide rubber belt on the output side that pulls the harness. The operator just puts end on that belt and holds it down with a flat hand and let the adjustable belt speed do the work of coordinating wrap speed, harness diameter and overlap of the tape. The tape holder needs to be at a small angle to help make the tape lay without wrinkles. The tape used was vinyl harness wrapping tape commonly used on auto wiring. It has no adhesive and is secured by a few wraps of friction tape at the ends. That method retains flexibility that adhesive tape won't allow.

I made wiring looms in the late 80's. Your machine is faster than I was, but, about 60% of the speed of the best tapers we had. A good work-around though. The stretch and wrap non-adhesive vinyl stuff would be a problem on your rig though. You'd have to change the gearing and ad a holder to keep a tight tension on the harness. Very doable.

I really like the idea!! And great build, props to the creator!! But I would like to see an option with more tension if that makes sense? Like if I'm using electrical tape I really like to get shit tight on the wires so I dont have much chance of it unwrapping. Any ideas or suggestions? Even with the current state of the wrapper it could be used for a lot of things, you ever see those asian factory videos where they have basically a huge version of this that they use to wrap an entire box in tape, like this could be used for alot more than just harness wraps with a few changes. Even just this version could be used for things like friction tape on hockey sticks.

Great, now all of my cables can have sticky tape residue on them - just what I want! Thanks youtube for recommending this to me - how have I lived my life thus far without sticky wires

Pretty ingenious. I wonder if this can be adapted to wire loom

Is there a possibility that they post here plans and a parts list? I think there are very many people who would like to rebuild this. Thanks in advance for your effort.

That little router has to have some real juice to it and one fantastic bit to cut that stuff like that. Of course in America the bits we buy R made out of old soda bottles and Ford hubcaps.

You need to shop for you bits somewhere besides a box store and be prepared to pay more for them. Quality bits are available, stay sharp, and if not abused, last a long time. But Americans (I am one.) are terrible at looking at things for the long term. They’d rather save money on a new appliance and replace it every 5 or 10 years, than to spend a couple hundred more on one that will last decades.
