Beyoncé mom said it took her two years to finish it. Majority of the tracks was dedicated to her gay uncle Johnny. So this album was a tribute to 70’s music and the gay black community
America Has a Problem is a sample of Kilo Ali’s song (Cocaine) America Has A Problem which is a song about a girl that’s as addictive as cocaine which explains Beyoncé’s lyrics “Tony Montana with the racks” but then it uses 80s hip hop synths which is The Regan “War on Drugs Era” which gives the song another meaning like “America has a [drug] problem” and Beyoncé is the drug to represent that the whole country is addicted to her whether it’s fans that love her to the point of obsession or conversatives that constantly attack her and try to diminish her. It’s genius.
Well said! It’s the menacing undertones for me…folks like to paint Beyoncé as a villian, so she is throwing it back in peoples face. Her declaration of “ I’m Bad” and mention of Tony Montana verifies this. The Jedi mind trick of the title which people expect her to be political and ‘woke’ but in actuality it’s her warning to America that she is a free black woman of color with a huge platform indicating that I’m Your Problem America… is the stuff of genius. GENIUS!
I am a gen-xer which means I have lived through 5 generations of music. I was a teenager when Thriller came out and Purple Rain. I'm from Chicago and I remember when House music was born. My mother was a Donna Summer super fan and loved all things disco. 70s, 80s, and 90s music stays on rotation on my playlist. This album literally embodies my life. Bey went through the archives for this. Mixed in several different genres, gave it a modern sound added her beautiful vocals and voila! Gave us a masterpiece! The ONE song I really wasn't feeling at first was Church Girl but after listening to it for a full week straight, I'm liking it now! 🙂 Loved your reaction btw and your vocals!🙂
she’s such a student of music. many artists would not have succeed or seem genuine making an album like this but it works bc beyoncé commits to her vision 100%, never half asses anything, and really sank into the musical histories of the genres she plays with on renaissance. she has a standard of perfection & execution that puts her on a level apart from most.

Also, from a strategical standpoint it was so smart for her to drop this album now with everything that's been going on these last few years politically, racially, covid, Ukraine, you name it, everybody's been in a mood and it was like she knew we needed something to lift our spirits and man! Beyoncé grew up with Prince, Madonna, Michael and Janet Jackson…the way she absorbed all of them and how she manufactured her own voice and sound is the reason why we will NEVER have another Beyoncé. She understands music in a way that most don’t. It’s not about singles, but more about an experience and making a cohesive album. Category: Elevation and Experimentation. Shoutout to Jay Z and Solange because I know that is the reason why Beyoncé is steadily evolving her sound and who she is as an artist. So many of the greats I mentioned before sometimes lose that spark of creativity that propelled them to be legendary in the first place because they didn’t have a tribe of visionaries around them…Beyoncé on the other hand keeps getting better. I’m literally gagged and shook to see what she does next.
I don't like how people can't just credit Beyonce...why do people have to keep bringing up that Solange & Jay MUST be influencing her, who says she is not influencing THEM. Give the queen her flowerssss

The album was inspired by Beyonce's late gay uncle who the album was dedicated to. He introduced her to Disco, Dance, House (created by Black DJ's on Chicago's Southside which birthed EDM/Dance, etc.) Her inspirations were Donna Summer/Disco, House, the Black gay ballroom scene ( of which she celebrated 12 icons) and more. She's regularly reinventing.

I never really listened to Beyonce until her album cover graced my music app. It drew me in. First track was Plastic and I was captivated- needed to hear more, Break My Soul was next and I was sold. Her voice literally brought tears to my eyes. Being a new fan, I needed to confirm that this greatness I just heard was shared. Yours was the first reaction/review video I watched. I loved your reactions & feelings to each track - and now I know how tremendously talent she is. I sincerly think this will be album of the year. Such great dance music and power. Here in Australia, I was dancing in my seat with you the whole time, tapping my right foot, to the beat of the songs, listening to this album, to its songs and your comments on them. I love this album so much! To me, it makes me feel happy, confident and sexy as a woman. I can't stop playing the album over and over. It is my favourite album of any album I have ever listened to, in all of my 51 years.
Old school, “House” music, DJ’s, like the late, Larry Levan”, would’ve enjoyed this album. Why? Because, it play’s like how a DJ would mix their set, back in the day. A mixture of different, “textures”, moods and transitions. “Break my soul”, sounds so much better on the album, than when played by itself on radio. Mainly, for this reason. Excellent review!!
Honestly I'm a solid 6, but this album made me feel like a 10+, that I can have any man I want and I was walking around like I magically grew 6 inch stilettos out the bottom of my feet. I never danced so much to an album. It's just pure excellence and I enjoyed watching you react to it❤️

Another hiphop-dance-house fusion I really enjoy is Azealia Banks’ Broke with Expensive Taste. The energy in that album is the same as this (sometimes even wilder) so yeah, she may be controversial but the music is giving high quality. You better check that one out too
