Amazing song! It introduced me to RTJ, and they quickly became my favourite hip hop act of all time. Cannot believe it's been 5 years already since then.

For post-2016 shadow my pick is My Lonely Room off of Our Pathetic Age, it's hard to admit but I feel like essentially all of the tunes he did solo on there feel too overtly clean and maybe a bit hastily produced in the DAW. Despite lacking a bit of grit, to me My Lonely Room feels a wee bit more like him than a lot of the other tunes on there. Maybe it feels personal as if it was something that you could stumble on by an artist you hadn't heard of and be quite impressed. It could almost be just that knowing it is DJ Shadow is what makes it less impressive overall. To contrast that on the same album, I think Rocket Fuel is the most corporate sounding tune he has made so far. When I first heard it I immediately knew I would hear it in advertising everywhere and it did end up being that situation here in the UK, where it ran on multiple advertising campaigns, for different brands at the same time, for months or years.

I find the moronic bravado of this song just embarrassing to listen to. Shadow had his moment and everything post Private Press just continues to disappoint me
