Butter Rugs Slipmats: www.thudrumble...
Dr Suzuki Slipmats: www.stokyoworld...
This is a quick comparison showing the differences between two iconic turntablist slipmats. In one corner we have the Thud Rumble Butter Rugs while we have the Dr Suzuki Scratch slipmats in the other. Which slipmats do you use for scratching?

Just getting back into the game and came across your review. Purchased some Dr. Suzuki Technics Scratch editions and they are fantastic! Big difference between my OG Technics slipmats from the 80s to these slippery and ultra thin slipmats. I subbed, but then realized you retired recently. Late to the game, but glad you kept these videos up to be discovered! Congrats and best wishes!

I used to make my own slipmats in the eighties by cutting out the plastic that came with most records back then..

@@dj4562010 butter rugs are slightly better though as it has a coarser side to 'mate' with the record or another slipmat.

Thank you I’m gonna definitely get the Dr. Suzuki’s slip mats, the butter rugs I have aren’t slippery enough, it’s like they get tighter every year.

Yeah, I like the Suzuki's a little better and I've been using butter rugs for like 10 years. Thanks for watching.

I'm using Butter rugs for couple of years now and recently I bought Dr. Suzuki's skratch slipmats. The thing is, when you use Dr. Suzuki's with slipsheets they are noisier than Butter rugs, but it seems that all static stays in slipsheets so the slipmat itself is basicaly antistatic. Dr. Suzuki is bit ticker and feels better, but without slipsheets basicaly performs the same as Butter rugs. For mixing I prefer to put butter rugs under standard felt slipmats, but that's only me.
@kareem_the_dream

I’m thinking of going back to standard slipmats from my butter rugs. The rugs are great for scratching but for beat juggling they’re a bit too slick, when I give them a little back spin they fly!

If your looking for that original technics slipmat plastic slipdiscs, 'undermat', You can cut one out from inside of a cerial box, Or shopping bag. You will find the right material. Its very hard to find the original. But Dr suzuki do a good mat. OR if you have some orignal technics boxes, There is a thin plastic used to wrap the dust cover and turntable with red writing on it, You can use that. Its very slippery and anti static.

Kareem, I've been told different thing about the Butter Rugs. What side is up? The felt side or the shiny side? Most people say felt side up to protect the record but that puts the logo down.
@RealDJblaze
@RealDJblaze 5 лет назад
I believe the felt side should be up, but I don't see anyone really rocking them like that... QBert doesn't even do felt side up...
@jaemez3247

Slippery side goes up. As per QBert. Felt side down. This is why the graphics are on the slippery side.

@@jaemez3247 Umm... they are made to 'slip' on the turntable, not the record..? You are moving the record on the turntable, not the record on the slipmat
@Ninja_Gaijin

@@RealDJblaze I always used slippy down and felt up, to mate with a suzuki slipmat. If you were using it by itself, I guess it wouldn't really matter that much. I think you'd get less static moving the record mated to the slipmat, rather than the record moving ON the slipmat. I have these ones though, they look a bit different: www.concertav.com.au/product/BTR002WHITE/ V1 black. So mine has black slick side and grey coarse logo side. I use the slick side on the platter.

@Ninja_Gaijin
@Ninja_Gaijin 3 года назад
I haven't tried it but I hear the best thing for static is having a Milty Zerostat 3. Bit expensive for me to ever try though. Next to that 'anti static sleeves' are useful (but there's no way to totally stop static from pulling a record out the sleeve, OR from just spinning it on a turntable for a few minutes..). I use MA recordings sleeves for my fanciest records, Mofi for my less so.

Best of both - butterrug bottom, suzuki scratch on top is what I rock. Wanted to try some Frosted Plates but never tried em. Pretty sure butterrugs are made to be put *under* another slipmat, to replace the way DJs used to use a sheet of plastic cut out under the slipmat. I never saw the plastic Suzuki slip discs when I was shopping back in the day, butter rugs kept me going for a decade now.
@RealDJblaze
@RealDJblaze 3 года назад
Nope, Butter rugs are meant to be used by themselves, but can be used in conjunction with other slip mats if that works good for you... The Suzuki Scratch are really sick though. I've been using butter rugs for about 10 years now as well, but the Suzuki won me over. Doesn't feel like they will ever need to be replaced.

Quick heads up to anyone using the Butter Rugs; the shiny (logoed) side goes on the platter and the soft, cotton wool type side faces up, i.e. is in contact with the vinyl. Not sure why they were demonstrated the other way around in this video...
