My first video essay thing! This is a new type of content style for me (which requires me to speak) so hopefully I don't sound too cringy. Let me know if there's any audio issues I need to work out.
Djent is a subgenre of progressive metal. It's also a style of guitar playing. It's also not a genre and not a style of guitar playing. Its the best. It's the worst. It's a passing fad and omnipresent in the heavy metal world. It loses relevancy and gains it back with each passing year. Its amazing; it sounds like robots engaging in hardcore pornography to the rhythm of a sorting algorithm.
Djent is highly divisive amongst metal fans, and even worse, nobody seems to know what even qualifies as Djent. Today, we explore the history of this style of music which is totally accurate and well researched to gain a better understanding of what in the actual f*ck this genre is. Welcome, to Djent Explained.
Music Used (In order of appearance)
Kirby Super Star - Green Greens
Toshifumi Hinata - Reflections
Slipknot - Wait and Bleed
Accumula Town - Pokemon Black & White
Car Bomb - Scattered Sprites
Matti Hoffman - Desolation (Sorry about that, Matti love your stuff)
Mike Gianelli - Descent
Sergey Golovin - Bouncing Ball
Outro music:
♫ Track: [Electro Swing] Wat Dat Dee [No Copyright Music]
♫ Watch: • Wat Dat Dee - Electro ...

"And that totally aged well later on" Well said. That's exactly what happened. Also good point on oversaturation. I use to like to listen for couple of albums here and there. But now.... its just architects + linkin park vocals. And that infamous doom's day riff. But maybe instead of listening to that music i decided to play along myself.

This, with the way it was edited and delivered, actually legit reminded me of what the internet was like in 2008-2009 when I was perusing the gear forums posting “THALL” as every other response. Back when we said “Omnislash” was a Vildjharta album and Sikth were still kinda fresh. Ah those were the days. Arguing with strangers in the comments about what polyrhythm Fredrick was playing in “Rational Gaze” against Haake’s 4/4 time signature. TesseracT? You mean Fellsilent right? 😂 Then some Chimp Spanner stans would come flying tf in outta nowhere correcting people about how AAL isn’t as good. I remember where I was like it like I was yesterday hearing “It’s not safe to swim today” by VoM on my friends MySpace page and being all like “😮😮”. EDIT: Then Car Bomb showed up and pretty much pushed the genre to its limits 😂

My favorite thing about djent is that you can actually make it with 0 guitars and just be a good bassist who utilizes the whole fretboard

I bought a 8 string guitar a few years back for the soul purpose of Djenting.... then I found out about the different timings of it, and then the tempo.... needless to say, I’m not ready or that.... so I just use it for chuggy riffing now. 🤣👍🤘 It’s not an easy genre to master.... most folks I know that can Djent can only play a few riffs... 🔥👍💪
