In this video, I unbox the new DJI Digital FPV Googles and I made a workaround for the lack of an HDMI input. This allows me to connect the goggles to my computer and my FPV flight simulator for a more immersive experience.

ah yes you're right! Now I see his flag on the shelf. Its an excellent quality video, well done. The only thing missing for me was which goggle (v1 vs. v2) are you testing. I'm guessing v1 since this was made in 2020 and now DJI has a V2 goggle.

Stumbled on this looking for FPV sim info while waiting for my DC5 to arrive from China. So thanks for taking the time to post this ....and I'm sure a month from now I will find out a new goggle is coming out with an HDMI or displayport or USB-C or ? and I'll wish I had waited. Seems like a massive oversight from DJI. Good flying brother!

Thats always the buyer dilemmam, there is always something new comming out but am still excited and am sure people will come out with hacks if not I will ahha. I also have a DC5 waiting for covid restrictions to be lifted to take it out for nice flight. Might do a video on it so stay tune. Let me know how yours is.

Hey, great video! Question: Isn't it bad for the goggles to leave out the antenna's while powered on? (0:30) Because the goggles are not only receiving, they're also transmitting

Joshua Bardwell tested the Goggles and found out, that they only transmit over their top antennas and only when receiving signals from an Airunit. So if you don't power up an Airunit, that is paired to your Goggles, you should be fine.

I’ve seen another RU-vidr GAL KREMER using the same method without the HDMI SPLITTER and it works perfectly. Is it necessary to use HDMI splitter in order for it work perfectly?

Hey, the hdmi splitter isn’t Necessary, said it in the video also. Only reason I use it is because I like to take off the googles and use a normal screen to do all the navigation and I have a dual screen set up. But yea the hdmi splitter is completely unnecessary.

Is it not very delayed for input? I have an rca adapter aswell and rarely use it because of the fact that my HDMI is delayed to the goggles guessing around 100-200ms

I'm not positive, but I think you don't want to power up the goggles without at least the top antennas plugged in. Those antennas transmit as when as receive, and you never want to power transmitters without antennas.

They probably do not transmit until you chose which channel you want to try to connect to... by default its... NONE... not even channel 8. You have to go into Player and chose a channel. I am guessing, however, and do not know this for a fact without some kind of radio signal detection device. Now, if you flew previously on a channel, maybe when you power them on by default it will try your last settings to reconnect, in which case, yeah, you'd want the transmit antennas on. Having them on tho is a PITA as they catch on everything, your rats nest of cables and the head straps...

What he is doing is safe, once he does NOT have a paired Air Unit switched on. The goggles do low power transmissions (like pit-mode), but only start transmitting at full power when the paired Air Unit is switched on.

You can turn on the dji fpv goggles v2, without the stock antennas installed. As Joshua Bardwell, mention it in a comment, from a video a year ago. "The amps won't damage themselves" My Dji goggles weren't ACTIVATED. Brand new (out of the box) Still I recommend install the antennas, before use.

Just want to say that you dont need a splitter. You only need a splitter if you want a display on your monitor or tv as well.. so if you only have one hd cable, it will do the trick. Thanks

Thank you for the video, is there anyway you can get the googles to output on a monitor without the smart controller? As in what’s in the googles display it on a monitor? I have av2hdmi rca converter, Monitor to hdmi in -> hdmi to rca converter -> rca converter to av -> av to 3.5mm (ttrs cable) -> 3.5mm (ttrs cable) to googles but nothing shows up? Idk if this is even feasible or am I doing something wrong

No way to do a monitor but you can use a Android phone or tablet and use the digiview app

@@fleurimondproductions2786 you would also need a otg cable from the tablet and the USB c to USB but yeah much cheaper than the smart controller and I think just as good once you have a decent android tablet. There would be small latency also but if it's just for someone to the side to watch it is great. Thanks 🙌

Where is the second HDMI cable running to? Why can't I skip the splitter and run straight from my computer that has the simulator on it...straight to the AV box and then to the goggles.

The hdmi splitter is not needed. BUT, I use it to send a signal to a extra monitor I have. That way I set up the simulator and only put on the google when I am ready to fly. It’s just a personal preference. Hope this helps

So I wanted to do this but have no AV-IN on my menu. Firmware V01.01.0000 menu is also different, with yellow on it. Any clue bro where to select AV-IN? I followed all your steps

You can try the red, the the problem here is that DJI did not follow the common RCA standard, so it's really about trying them all. Also make sure the Google is update and that your hdmi to rca converter is powered if it is one that requires power. You can send the spec number. But everything should be plug and play unless Dji did a update that messed this up.

Thanks I haven’t used this in a while but I rem it wouldn’t be the full dji screen but I size smaller, it’s based on the analog input screen size supported by Dji

Hey sorry I haven’t upgraded mines, you can also downgrade the firmware if you rather have It. I haven’t looked into this in a while to be honest, I’ll check it out as soon as I can.

I just had this issue as well and was able to figure it out. The goggles are set to another mode for use with another drone system, which gives a completely different HUD and options. Go into your goggle settings and click on About, scroll down (click up once to jump to the option) and switch the aircraft model to "DJI Digital FPV Systems". Reboot your goggles and now you should have the same screen/options as seen in the video. Remember to switch it back for use with your drone afterwards.

@@alexmaslov5979 Glad I was able to help with my comment. Just a FYI, theres now a much better way of getting PC video into your goggles which is still in full HD without added hardware. The only issue is you must root your goggles first which requires downgrading the firmware, rooting them, then re-upgrading the firmware. The result is worth it though and all you need is a usb-c cable. Let me know if you are interested in details.

Make sure the spitter is powered and the converter may need to be powered also. The blue screen means the DJI not getting a proper video signals. Also make sure the hdmi has a signal. Also you could have a bad cable.!

Pay around with the output resolution from your computer there is a sweet spot, I haven’t used it in a while so I can’t remember what i had set mines too but it the resolution would make it better (not best though, cause there would be quality losses converting hdmi to av)

Hey man, sorry that happen, if you got the same RCA cable, try plunging in each of the colours into the yellow, DJI DIDNT follow the standard so it might be one of the audio (white or Red ) that would send the video to the googles. Also make sure your computer is output video over the hdmi and set the hdmi to rca to ntsc or pal based on your region. Let me know if you get through

My HDMI 2 AV converter came and I have no joy brother. I tried all the things you suggested and just a blue screen or once in a while a very jagged mixed up version of my PC screen. What a shame! It would be so great to practice through the goggles.

Sorry to hear that, send me your set up via my Facebook page I’ll try to help. If you getting a jagged mixed up verson it might be you have a broken connection or you resolution might be set too high. Try swapping the video signal lines

@Just Barran it arrived from DJI and there was a rattling sound inside - shaking the Radio made the rattle stop - but it seemed to now be lodged in the throttle gimbal. Probably a random screw. I asked them if I could open it and remove it or if this would void the warranty. They said no and that I should send it in for exchange so I sent it back. Now I’m waiting...again. Probably not a good thing to have something floating inside that could short out my ability to control a flying blender. So I have the DC5 now, but no way to control it and no way to practice on the simulator. And winter is approaching so I won't be able to fly for 6 months. Life is hard brother...life is hard. ;-)

It doesn’t have an accelerometer or gyro to push that information automatically, but I feel would an Arduino and stuff it can be done, but the quality also isn’t that great to be used for that, untill the add hdmi in support it’s pretty much 480p quality

Its Working in my Case with the following way: Cable: ( ASIN = B09FT4PV1N) Padarsey 3.5mm to RCA AV Camcorder Video Cable 3.5mm Male to 3RCA Male Stereo Audio Video AUX Cable for Smartphones, MP3 Players, Tablets, Speakers, Home Theater Adapter ( ASIN ‏=‎ B01AG0MDY4 ) Musou HDMI to 3RCA Composite CVBS Vedio Audio AVAdapter 1080P 1: Red Cable must be sticked into Yellow. 2: White Cable must be Taped (in my case soldered) on the OUTSIDE of White or Red. 3: 3,5 Cable Plug must be pluged into the Goggles (without the adapter). Working 100% fine. Explanation: I've no fckn idea. But it's working.

ATTENTION NEWBIES: It is best to have the antennas attached before you power up these goggles, or really any FPV component that has an antenna. If the device tries to transmit at full power without an antenna it is likely to damage components.

Actually once the googles in not in pairing mode or connected to a air unit the transmitters are switch off. Bardwell did a test on this so if is just in av mode you are safe. But again use at your own risk. Personally Never had a problem yet.

In terms of learning FPV. Connecting to DGI Googles are not really adding any value right ? Not that it helps you fly better. What you see on LCD or On FPV. Rather googles is using analog input so even the experience is poor. Unless they bring USB C connection support for digital connection i am also seeing no value in using DJI googles as PC Output. Correct me if i am wrong. However awesome effort and big thank you.

You are definitely right in a lot of sense. For me the value is just getting used to it on my face and give me a closer experience to flying outside. But I kinda said it in the video, the hdmi to analog kills the quality and I can’t see myself watching a movie on this as VR headset. I really wish they come out with a usb C hdmi update soon.

My DJI goggles just arrived today. I intend to use them with Velocidrone, even if the quality isn't as good as it should be. I fly OK in the sim, but when I put goggles on to fly for real, I get really disoriented. So for me, it's getting used to flying with the goggles on before venturing outdoors again with my real drones.

iflight frames break easily, just saying. 15:00 The resolution isn't that great also, says someone who never flew analog. lol

I mean I said that at the beginning XD I never really flew analog goggles. I have an analog screen setup and yea the quality sucks, but I have a friend with a Fatshark and the HDMI in on that looks way better than this HDMI-in setup which is what I was comparing it to. But it works and it's really fun so I guess I shouldn't complain XD. Thanks for the heads up with the iflight, ill try to be careful especially how am now starting. Let me know if you have any recommend frames. I could compare them in the future.

@@JustBarran anyway. I will tell you my criteria for a frame (it's >only< my personal view). For freestyle I need frames that last i mean not crash and break and be relatively cheap. Usually these kind of frames are a little bit heavier so to balance the weight i try to choose lightweight components (motors, stack etc). For the dji i would recommend the phreakstyle hd (economic), armattan frames and banggod. For analog i use tbs source one (cheapest extremely durable).

I really hope some other manufacturer comes up with a digital system fast. DJI is going to be the catalyst that ruins FPV as a hobby.

They have a few others actually, but why do u think dji with ruin it ?

@@JustBarran who else has a good digital system? I think DJI will ruin it because of over regulation/registration/remote identification/over proprietizing and planned obsolescence. They seem to me like they want to copy the apple closed system business model which to me means paying more for packaging than product. I see fpv as a diy hobby to be built upon and improved. I see DJI as a company where if you want some new feature, you have to buy new. For example, you want hdmi on these goggles, you have to buy a $700 controler which will not work with my perfectly good 2 year old mavic which has become consistently more grounded because of flight restrictions. One might argue these regulations are important. Yes, when more and more inexperienced pilots can immediately take to the air these regulations become more urgent.

All they had to do was put an hdmi jack on the goggles. pretty standard for most modern tech. But they chose not to, basically to sell more "smart controllers"

Michael it has caddx and some other but I feel you. That planned obsolescence is a really killer. Not to mention in order to use the googles I had to connect it to my computer and get a DJi update. So I feel you there.
