DJI Goggles 2 + Vista - MSP DisplayPort Setup on Betaflight 4.3 & Test Flight 

You have to set it up in the ports tab. Go to your UART where your O3 is installed and set it to vtx(MSP+Displayport) in the Peripherie tab.

@I3ENGEE Thanks! I haven't tried Betaflight 4.4 yet but looks like they changed these settings under the hood. I'll update the title of this video and the thumbnail to show that it only works for 4.3 or prior, and not 4.4.

@@nxp200 Yeah...not sure how much OSD info I want. It can get distracting. If I remember right, I only watched a few of the metrics when I flew analog. Would like to have distance flown, just to have a mental note of range. When image stabilization is on (Rocksteady?), is it smoothened in real time, such that it appears smooth in the goggles), or is that a post processing affect?

Yeh that's true. The main OSD element I look at most during flight is the average cell voltage and the main warnings for low battery etc. The Caddx Vista doesn't have Rocksteady or stabilisation. I think it isn't able to because it doesn't have a gyro or a media chip for it to process the video before transmission to the goggles. The O3 Air Unit has a gyro in the camera and media chip in the main unit, so it's able to do Rocksteady.

I've only done the one pack that was for this video. I didn't notice anything strange in the flight feel, but it was quite windy that day, so if there was, I would mistake it for wind pushing me around. I'm not sensitive to latency, so I can't really tell that either. Sorry. Can't help you much. I do want to revert the firmware and try the V2 again, so if I do, I'll record it and report back if I feel anything. Let's hope Chris Rosser does some scientific latency testing on this!! That would be very interesting. 🙂

If the Vista is on UART 1, then yes, set displayport_msp_serial = 0

The CADDX Vista units are quite durable in my opinion in terms of heat. I haven't had any issues or any of them dying. I have had the air unit show a warning about overheating and then shut down because it was powered on while on the bench and I wasn't flying, so air flow wasn't cooling it down. After turning it off and letting it cool, it was working fine again after that. Never overheated during flight. Only my experience only though.

Hi Jerry. Do you mean FlySky fs-i6 controller?

Ah Ok. The fs-i6 is a radio control transmitter and the TX805 is a video transmitter. They are for different purposes and do not communicate with each other. In my build, I used the RadioMaster R81 as the receiver communicating on the FrSky D8 radio protocol. The TX805 transmits the analog video signal to my goggles. Hope that helps.

There could be a few reasons for low range. Is the antenna damaged or installed incorrectly? If there's interference around the location, try changing the channel. Have you applied the "ham CFG" mod to switch the connection from CE region to FCC (not recommended if this against regulations in your region)? The blurry edges on both sides of the video is likely the "Focus Mode" activating due to poor reception. Disabling this will remove the blur, but will likely increase latency when reception degrades. Also depends on what your definition of "low range" is. In clear line if sight, you should be able to get 100m without issues.

It's Nam 🙂 I'm not familiar with that charger, so I can't say. Sorry. The ViFly Shortsaver 2 Smart Smoke stopper is good as it supports up to 6s and has a button to start and stop.

I was flying that with ExpressLRS control link instead of the DJI controller, so the RC signal is greyed out. Not sure why you're not seeing the battery or signal for the DJI display.. I didn't have to configure anything for that to show.

Yes. The TX805 (video transmitter) will work fine with the EV800D (goggle video receive). I'm not too familiar with FlySky products, but I believe you'll need to have a receiver that works on the AFHDS or AFHDS 2A transmission protocol such as FlySky FS-RX2A.

Hi Rfly. Unfortunately once you upgrade the Vista to the latest firmware so that it is compatible with the Goggles 2 with MSP DisplayPort, you cannot bind it to the V2. There is no official DJI way to get Betaflight OSD on V2 + Vista at the moment.

@@nxp200 Ahh, this hobby is expensive. Now I'm thinking about buying Googles 2 ;) But to be honest I like the WTF OS fonts more, you can also customize them so that part is better but resolution of O3 and OLEDs in googles 2 are I think still winning ;)

Haha. Yeh, it can be expensive. But my advice is that the V2 is still really awesome with the Vista and WTF.OS root OSD. Don't go the Goggles 2 if you enjoy the V2 already. I got the G2 with the Avata before I got my V2 (found an awesome second hand deal that was really cheap I couldn't pass on). Hope that helps!

​@@nxp200 Cool tip. V2 googles are indeed great especially with iFlight Crystal Patch antennas. It was really pain to screw and unscrew original antennas every time I needed to fit it in my Torvol backpack. Now I can even use original DJI protective bag without even detaching antennas. Hi StarDuss. Need to clarify a few things. Do you have the Goggles V2 or Goggles 2?

The motors you ordered are suited for 4S Lipo. I like CNHL Black Series 1500mAh. Unsure what battery connector lead that comes with your flight controller, but if it's 30x30mm mounting size, then it should be XT60. Each pack lasts around 5 minutes of light acro. 3 to 4 minutes of heavy acro (heavy on throttle with high speed runs etc). I've ordered from AliExpress with no issues. Also I've ordered from local stores when on sale.

"Auto record on Takeoff" is a new feature added to the Goggles 2 firmware V01.07.0000 that allows it to auto record when using the Vista. Otherwise, for older firmware, you have to manually use the goggle's menu to start recording each time.

@@nxp200 thank you so much for confirming. My drone with DJI O3 records on take off but seems with the original air unit it doesn’t. I’m slowly changing my drones to Crossfire as I really like the Tango 2 remote now.

Haven't been able to get auto recording with the G2+Vista. Have to go into top menu (swipe down) and hit record each time. So annoying! Because I sometimes forget and I do the best power loop + Matty + Rubik's cube + vanny roll + immelmann into a tiny gap combo and then realised I wasn't recording... 😂

Looks like that flight controller has the HD plug that uses TX2 and RX2. So that's UART 2.

This method doesn't work with Goggles V2 for any air unit or Vista. However, there is a hack that does provide this feature which is called "wtf.os". You will need to "root" the Goggles V2 though, kind of like software "unlocking", which may void any warranty etc.

That's correct. "0" (zero) is a valid value for UART1

On the Goggles 2, you'll need to swipe down on the touchpad. The video recording menu will appear and there will be a record button. This will initiate recording in the goggles. If you're binded to an O3 Air Unit, it will also start recording on there as well.

Yes. Steps are different for Betaflight 4.3 and 4.4 though. Check my other videos for 4.4 instructions.

I haven't used 4.2 for a while, but I recall that it doesn't support it and 4.3 was the first version that did.

G'day Jerry. I like to use 0.7mm rosin core 60/40 solder. I've tried buying online and it was terrible quality. So I just buy it locally cause it worked so much better and doesn't cost that much more. My soldering is much better (of course 😆) off camera cause it's difficult to get a good viewing angle while filming at the same time. A $10 iron could work if it has a fine narrow tip. If not, you could buy a replacement tip for cheap. I've used cheap irons a long time ago and they get the job done, it's just the iron doesn't last long.

awesome information .i think ill buy a better one . but ill practice with this one .i am buying some practice kits from alie . and destroy and fix cheap items I own that I've been wanting to learn on. should I buy a desk top type or pencil plug into battery /usb type iron?

I've got an old (20 years old) desktop one that's still working like new.. they don't make em like they used to I guess. If I had to buy one these days, I would get the TS100 (pencil style). Seems to have good reviews from many in this hobby. If you know your gonna be doing a lot more soldering like this, probably good idea to get a decent desktop one. Also, good idea on trying out those practice kits! I suggest getting kits that actually function, even if it's just flashing lights or something simple. This really tests if your solder jobs actually work and don't bridge etc. Those dedicated "practice boards" don't provide you with that kind of testing.

From memory, after setting auto record on 03 when arming, it records a new file when that happens. I'll try to test out on the Vista and let you know

Yeh. I just tested this on the Vista using Goggles 2 and you have to manually hit record each time before you arm. Doesn't look like there's any option to auto record upon arming. It's a shame..

Yep. That sounds like a good list. I personally like 2207 size motors, but 2205 should also be good. I haven't used the Aocoda-RC F4 flight controller before, but happy to try and help if you need. 👍

No problem! Yes I do suggest analog first to get into the hobby because it's not too expensive, even if you migrate to digital later, your not wasting much money. Plus, analog is still great for tiny whoops etc to fly indoors for many years to come. So the only thing you'll be replacing are cheap VTX and cameras on your drones 👍

Yeh. Betaflight 4.4 has changed the settings for MSP DisplayPort significantly after I posted this video and my instructions only work for Betaflight 4.3 and backwards. You'll need to look up how to get MSP DisplayPort to work on 4.4, but I believe it's as simple as an option on the Ports tab now. I haven't tested BF4.4 on my 5 inch quads with Vista yet, so I can't confirm exact instructions. It's on my list of videos to make, but haven't had enough time. Sorry about that. Hopefully I can squeeze it in this week.

If you have connected the air unit TX and RX pads to UART 1 of the flight controller (TX1 and RX1), then the configuration should be set to zero: set displayport_msp_serial = 0

I believe support for MSP DisplayPort was only introduced in Betaflight 4.3. So I don't think it will work with 4.2

Unfortunately not with standard DJI firmware. You'll need to "root" the goggles and install wtf.os. There's quite a few videos out there showing how to do this, but let me know if they're no good (look up project Butter for DJI Goggles V2). I've been wanting to do it to my V2 goggles but have been too busy, so if I do get a chance, I'll record and share my steps and experience. Good luck!
