Why am I looking at a video from 3 years ago? Because I am so stoked to finally have bought my first professional-grade drone, and I am just trying to learn as much as possible. Your video and the way you've done it is exactly how I currently feel.
Errata: the reg has to be on outside now. Great video. Very well presented. You should be mainstream if there ever gets to be a drone channel. No equivocation very nice.
Hey Russ and all the Channel Subscribers - Well after 6 months of reading and watching ordered my Mavic 2 Pro fly more combo - Flew 90, 60 and 30 size Remote Helicopters up until 10 years back and still have my ornaments (Helicopters in a glass case in my office) - Now to learn how to fly quads - Have downloaded the DJI Simulator and App - Should get the real thing on Tuesday. Like a big Kid I'm super excited!!!! :)
Thanks for the beginners video. I especially like your pace, which gives us the the information quickly. One suggestion would be to white board a list, that we could then pause and take some notes.
I just purchased a Mavic Pro for my RV camping RU-vid channel. Your video was very helpful and I am super excited to produce my first video with drone footage. ♥♥♥
Just got my Mavis 2 Pro , this introduction video is by far the best having never owned a Drone before. Looking forward to watching the rest of your Videos.
A coworker suggested I come watch your videos. I’m way behind the curve on getting a drone. The Mavic 2 Pro Arrives in a few more days. This will be my 1st experience so yes being nervous is definitely real. Thanks for making these videos for us Newbies. I’m getting the Smart Controller along with it. I’ve found there is a beginners setting so the drone won’t travel outside of a set radius.
Just a quick note to say I love all your videos Russ. Everything is explained really well from a beginner's perspective. Keep up the great work buddy!!
Pls answer these queation. 1. At what battery level should we press the RTH button. ? 2. When we press the RTH button where will it land? Is it the place where it started or where am i with the controller or how does it work?. 3. Do we have to calibrate the drone everytime we take it fly? Appreciate if you could answer these questions. I subacribed to you and also pressed the bell icon. 👍
Great video! I just received an email stating mine just shipped. I’ve been watching vids for the last two weeks and found that most of them talk over my head simply because I don’t have mine in hand yet. I’m sure that the subject matter will make more sense soon. This was a clear video and I appreciate the approach from a beginners eyes, look forward to more.
Woobloodyhoo!!!!!!! You little bewdy mate. I am so jealous & excited for you at the same time. I will have to live the “MP 2 Pro” dream through you. I am gunna wait till the “Mavic 2 Zoom Pro” comes out. I will be keenly watching from the side lines as I did when you first got the MP 1. Enjoy your new drone my friend.
Russ, your videos are fantastic for a unconfident beginner (like me). The Mavic 2 Pro is my first drone ever (why not). I made my first flight yesterday and, quite honestly, I was petrified to send $1500 up in the air. As you said, it will take a few flights to gain confidence and your videos really help. I like your grounded personal style ... keep up the great work. By the way, if you haven't already done so, you need to peel the plastic covering off the DJI logos on top of the controller ... I saw it glistening with air pockets at 7:31 :)
Crashing is hard and knocks your confidence, esp I had a major crash! But it’s like anything in life get out there again! Thnx, great video. Don’t have Mavic 2 yet. In South Africa and Rand dollar exchange makes is expensive. But with all the new sensors, I think this is the drone to beat! Cheers from Johannesburg!
I am new in the drone world . My first purchase ever was on the Mavic 2 Zoom. I think I made the right choice. But...I have flown it yet due to bad weather here in the Pacific NW. Bu I took this as an opportunity to do my homework and learn on how to fly it and familiarize myself with the Mavic 2 Zoom. Your tutorial video helped me with that. Thank You! I can’t wait to start flying and begin taking awesome pictures and videos. “ Where is this damn good weather?” 👍🏽
FAA registration is only required once per 3 years for hobbyists. So if you are already registered, just because you got a new drone doesn't mean you have to go register again. However, Part 107 pilots will need to register this drone under their account. Either way, that FAA registration number needs to be afixed to the drone. Nice video, Russ.
Great timing Russ, my MP2 is on it’s way. I feel like a child waiting for Santa. Superb video presentation, and great information for new and seasoned flyers.
The FAA rule on place of the registration number has changed effective February 25, 2019, now the FAA require drone owners to display the FAA-issued registration number on an outside surface of the aircraft. Owners and operators may no longer place or write registration numbers in an interior compartment.
Nice. The intro with the spinning globe is pretty cool. I saw someone in the unboxing. (See Twitter) nicely done. Looking forward to seeing you with the new drone. And the comparison to the original Mavic Pro. Take care, Bill
That's great tutorial for am still waiting for mavic 2 pro to be in stock here in France, currently only mavic 2 zoom is available in stock.Eager to have my first drone ever.thanks for the teaching lesson and I don't of I will attach my 1449 € drone a string not to fly away from me incase of any connection errors for the first time.
Hi, Russ 👍🏻👍🏻 Awesome informative information for the Mavic Pro 2 for beginners and for those who just recently purchased the MP2, which has some great new features. I will be looking forward to seeing your tutorial videos and watching you fly your MP2. Thanks for sharing, enjoy and have a Great weekend !!! PS: I would like to know when are you going to start selling those cool looking 51 drones caps !!! Danny
51, I really appreciate this video and found it most interesting..... being a DJI newbie, I need all the help I can get. Again...... thank you and fly safe, partner
Great video as always, I got my mp back in december so it will be a while until I upgrade. There seems to be quite a big difference in audio quality when your inside and outside, some how when you unboxed it seemed you was miles away from the mic.
In my kitchen. Probably the worst place for audio. Hard floors and cabinets. Nothing to absorb echo. I don't do it too often because it just sounds awful!
Thanks for the great video, like most I guess I've been researching away before choosing my first drone. I'm a stills photographer so have just ordered the Mavic Pro 2. While patiently waiting (not really cannot wait 😎) I have been doing a lot of reading, i notice in the DJI GO 4 app there is an option to select beginners mode. Will sure be using that for my first flight, just in case 😅. Might be worth a mention?
Radar mode Hello, I have watched several of your video's on youtube, however 99% of my viewing is on my Apple t.v. so I can't leave a thumbs up unless I do it on my computer. I don't usually write publicly but I figured since you like to help people and you said you weren't sure about Radar Mode, I thought I would help you. I have a Phantom 4 Pro +, love it but hardly fly it, had an issue actually with the radar mode, which is the way I like to fly rather than using the map view. Anyway to get to the point, I am not sure if it was this video or another one which you stated that you weren't sure what Radar mode was, but here is my best description of it and how to use it. Look at the small map when using your DJI app, if you notice on the map there is a symbol in each corner, top left is N/S compass icon, top right is radar or target icon, bottom left is a + icon, and the bottom right is a lock icon, click on the top right corner radar/target looking icon, it will then look kind of like a radar, you can push on it to go back to map view if you want, but anyway when in radar mode, when you are flying it will look kind of like a triangle (\/) something similar to this, anyway the wide part is the direction you are flying, I find this helpful in case the sun is out and you lose you line of sight for a minute or two you can then see which direction your drone is facing. If you look closely at it you will also note that the back ground on the radar is either blue or black, this will help you see if the drone is pitching up or down due to fighting winds, think of it as an attitude indicator in an airplane, the more blue the nose up the drone is. I have been on the fence about buying the Mavic pro 2 since I have not flown my Phantom 4 Pro + very much, partially since the display is mounted on the controller I could not tell if it was a drone or controller issue, but when I was in radar mode something went wrong and the direction was off by 90 degrees, I did not realize that there was an issue until I had lost my line of sight due to the sun in my eyes I looked at my screen instead to fly back to land it my drone, I could hear my drone but could not see it so I stopped and hit the return to home and then that is when I realized there was an issue, because instead of the drone being in front of me as the radar was showing, it came over the top of my house from the right, so I grounded it got a hold of DJI, told them I thought it was my controller, they sent me a new one, but that one was unable to charge or turn on and it was brand new, so I sent in the controller and drone and after getting it back I only have done one test flight to make sure the radar issue was working, and it was, but have not flown since, that was about a year ago, I would like to fly it for sure, but it is so large to travel with, I am looking at getting the Mavic Pro 2, and just use my Phantom 4 for local stuff once it gets warm out. I am just a hobbyist not a Part 107 person. Just to answer the question, yes I calibrated my IMU, and Compass, I also erased the software and reinstalled it and several other tests before sending in my controller to DJI for a replacement. Anyway hope I explained the radar mode clearly enough....Take care ...keep putting out those great video's !!.
Does the cooling fan of the Mavic 2 pro goes up and down when it is IDLE ? I got mine moments ago and it feels like drone is processing something while it is IDLE, should I return it to DJi ?
Ha! I didn't even change anything from the default! That's how good this thing is. I will be posting a Camera Settings video after a month or so when I've had time to play with it more. Thanks!
My butt going numb sitting on the edge of my for some flight time too short at the end I have mavic pro because of your channel thank you wish I could the 2 but price is too steep right now 😟soon I hope have a Yuneec q500 but got the mavic after watching and flying a friend's ✌️
Great video Russ! I was just curious as I’m still in the market for my first drone purchase, are the led’s on the bottom of the MP2 compliant with the Part 107 day operations waiver or would you still need a beacon or strobe of some sort? Thank you for your videos, I enjoy the perspectives you provide.
so i have the zoom and wanted to ask you a quick question.... it came with a 32gb sd card... should i put the sd card in the drone itself? or should i put it in the remote? what will help me be able to save more footage? i wasnt sure if the controller holds the recordings or if the drone does... please let me know what you think and where i should put the larger memory card? thanks in advance... looking forward to learning more thru ur videos.. thanks a bunch much appreciated!! -pete
The remote does not hold a memory card. Only the drone, and it takes a micro sd card. Perhaps you are referring to the adapter that allows a micro sd to be inserted into an SD slot?
hey Russ i was under the assumption that as a hobbyist we no longer need to register our drones? i also herd if your drone is under a certain weight no reg.is required true?ornot? thanks
You still must register with the FAA as a hobbyist. You don't register the drone itself, you register yourself. It is required on any drone over .55lbs.
Quick Question: Do you register each drone or just once as a user? Also I have the Mavic Pro & the 2 Pro, plus thinking of selling the first Mavic (which is register as recreational use under part 107) Thx I enjoy the vids.
If you have your Part 107, you need to register each drone. If you are flying as a hobbyist only, then just one number for all of your drones. If you sell your Mavic, make sure you unregister it first. Thanks!
