DJI Mavic Pro Review Part 2 - The amazing "tripod mode" 

Wow that is an astonishing feature. I still can't believe they can make these things so small and portable. I'm of course speaking about the Lay-Z-Spa Vegas.

Really appreciate someone who knows about video/cinematography and a bit about drones/quads giving an open and honest opinion and REAL feedback. Your shots are just gorgeous and your talent is shining through, stumbled on your channel by accident checking out the Mavic and will definitely be staying around. Kudos for your work!

I was eagerly awaiting the possibility of you doing this video after seeing your review yesterday. I am so excited to see more. Great stuff as usual! The tripod mode is something I am keen on exploring.

Incredible the passion that you give to your work. I bought the same drone two weeks ago, learning how to fly and now I want to better perform photos and videos manually.

You know how people often only claim their appreciation for other people/idols after have passed? I always think more people should say it while they are still around. I just want you to know you have done a lot for the camera community and for the many up and coming film makers, they wouldn't know half the things they do without you sharing your knowledge. Your portfolio is so consistent and you definitely have a defined style. Even if I have no intention of buying the products due to cost, I will always watch the reviews because of the quality content. I hope you get to do what you love for as long as you want

Great review. Nice grading between footage/cameras. It's always a pleasure when someone enjoys what they do some much and the enthusiasm is so obvious. Looking forward to the next installment. (if there is one!) I do wonder if any of the Mavic's new features will migrate over to the P4. Would love tripod mode on that craft.

I can really see this being used heavily in real estate videography. I've always been weary of "included" camera systems, but it's DJI and it looks AMAZING!

Mate I got a mavic 2 weeks ago and I love it. Tripod mode is awesome for slow pace work following a wedding couple etc. Even just practice to get your muscle memory and get better at flying.

Hey Philip. Loved the video. Awesome style and colour! I've had my Mavic for about two weeks now and I'm loving it. Shame the Art colour profile is now gone though. I think tripod mode is my most used intelligent flight mode. Cheers from Australia!

thanks for the key info on tripod and color values. ill wait till some of the excitement dies down and i can get it the day i purchase. Sub'd, and your garden is lovely. The color grading with all the wood and white was lovely. FYI when going backwards there are no sensors on the back though I guess in this mode the sensors don't help you anyway. I've not tried tripod mode yet!

that shot thru the narrow passage was pretty good...but i found out today that you can actually use the drone as a steadycam without turning on the propellers, and that shot would have come out smooth using the drone like a steadycam. it´s good to know this because i was interested in the karma for the karma grip to stabilize...i think i will get the mavik now.

Phillip you're ballsier than I am when it comes to tight space flying. My Mavic got a little unsettled yesterday when I tried flying it through the doorway in my kitchen. Never again. Never flying it inside like that again O_o

When you think you've nailed the picture profile, it would be awesome if you gave a nudge to filmconvert so they could create a profile for the 'bloom-mavic' setup.

No idea if you will see this, but one really cool thing that I saw in a review that you can do with the tripod mode, is fly it into the sky and take a time-lapse while you are constantly pushing down the levers and get a really cool slow "slider" time-lapse just fro up in the sky. That was an epic bit of flying and most copters wouldn't have stood a chance. Very brave to go back for try 2 knowing the follow up videos would possibly be delayed if it blew all its props on the concrete walls ;-) Cant wait to see how the yaw and tilt can be dialled down to the slowest yaws and tilts for "Pink Floyd Live at Pompei" style 1 minute long transitions. Yaw and Tilt can be one of the trickiest things to get slow and I am fingers crossed on this because I ended building my own copters to get full control over it with a custom controller. If the Mavic is smooth I may end up selling lots of gear and getting one.

What LUT are you using in this video?

This isn’t necessarily related but Phillip, would you say the song A7 series is better than the black magic pocket cinema camera for run and gun mobile work out the box?

Thumbs up for the Cray-Z-Spa so far.

Works much better on an overcast day, no shadows spoiling the result. Sadly here in Cape Town you need a commercial license if you wish to publish drone footage to RU-vid.

Hello Philip, if you can tell us which setting you prefer to use, after some time using mavic pro for best results and also another question why you are using sony a7 rii instead of sII ?

2 questions, what program do you use for color grading, and what settings do you use to get that awesome color palet that you use for the mavic footage.

Do you use a filter over your videos, something like classic or flat in post? Just curious. It's a very nice touch. Forgive me if I missed it somewhere else.

Phillip will you by chance be reviewing a gopro karma sometime in the future??

I was having problems with compression related flickers in dark patches (like shadows) with extremely detailed scenes (like a stony mountain, or green areas). I somehow solved it with your "timelapse flicker" solution, the solution also removed a lot of the noise. Yet, I needed to sharpen the image a little later. Did you encounter this, if so do you have any more-professional solution?

Phillip, you said in part 1 that DLog was too highly compressed for any serious use (or words to that effect).. would you say this is the case for the Phantom 4? I would presume yes as it's the same codec.. and camera.

can i know what did you use to get that nice tone colour for most of your shot?

Thanks for the great primer, Best I've seen yet on the Mavic. But Phillip I do a bit of grading and the not just the Mavic footage looks a but ruddy to me but much of the clip.
