Active track no good but follow with the GPS mode brilliant I had it follow me for 3 miles and didn't lose me once but like you say you won't get the best videos but with the weypoints and the GPS follow mode it's definitely worth the money and does give you load more options with the mini 2 so it's definitely a yes for me. I feel you have made an obvious mistake in drawing the box to track you every time. You not only selected yourself, but also a significant amount of background! You need to try again and ensure you only select yourself with the box, make it a real tight selection so you aren't telling the drone to track the background too. Perhaps even track your upper body only or lower body. I'm imagining the way tracking works is by logging the pixels you have selected and following them based on any other pixels in the image meaning selecting more than what you want it to track is definitely not assisting it.
Totally makes sense. Can see when tracks his back with black back pack and he turns around and it's gets confused, also noticed he selected with lots of green grass behind him and when he walks onto dirt and rocks it gets confused too. Good to know. So recommend wearing like red for example if your in a place with no red
I was getting a “Cops” vibe when you where hiding behind the rocks , I was think of getting this app but I think I’ll wait until it is out for a bit longer ,thanks for the video
I concur with the pints you've raised here after doing similar tests. I would add that active tracking does work very well if the drone is at a low height say 5-8m and about the same distance away.
havent watched yet, but hopefully he saw my comment about needing to use smaller tracking box with little to no background, just your subject. edit: nope his box is still massive. the grass in this seems like a fairly neutral background tho so it may be fine. edit2: yea it keeps wanting to track the grass cause most of the box you set up is grass. if you are comfortable with the drone being close, set up the box when its like right in front of you so it has strong information about what you look like. example at 4:02. the amount of grass:you ratio is like 8:1, so in the drones 'mind' its tracking is working perfectly. DJI's app does some sort of auto detect for moving subjects so its bounding box is tight, which makes its tracking very stable. final thoughts: try making your bounding box very very tight to the point your cutting off or almost cutting off the edges of your subject.
Thank you for posting this information. I was all for spending money on Litchi (many consider it the leader in this field), having been a Maven user and just lost my drone while on a mission. But Maven seems a hell of alot more stable with it's tracking feature (CoPilot) than Litchi so for now you just saved me a wasted purchase. Thanks again.
I've got to get going on getting a passport so I can visit there! I tested my Litchi follow mode for IOS Sunday by going wayyyyy out on the flood plains. Did a walking test, then hopped in my car and let it idle about 10-12mph. Worked great and planning to try again on bicycle to make something more watchable. I like that the angle/orientation/height/distance can all be adjusted on the fly Not sure I'll ever use the tracking or waypoints since if I'm not the subject, I can fly better than those modes. I did get an interesting panorama but where I was at everything is just brown and kind of dull right now.
@@TheDroneCreative It worked great following the car keeping in mind it is a convertible and had the top down so no signal issues. I just needed to see if it could follow faster than walking before I ride my bike 30+ miles out in the middle of nowhere to find out it won't follow me on bike. IF it works as well as my car test I can go to the same spots through the different seasons this year and end up with a late 2022 montage showing the crops from dirt to full grown back to harvested. Gotta film something since the nearest coast is about 1000 miles...
Litchi is awesome for waypoints have used it for years on other Mavics with great success. Can preplan the flight on the hub with a PC and just fly and get great videos from Waypoint. Have not tried on Mini2 yet but will now.
Did buy drone monday, and wednesday i did buy litchi. Wauw nice. watpoints made on pc is great. Low cost too. 6stars out of 5 Do not find youtube does litchi much good.
It think it is not an honest test. I've worked with image recognition AI techniques myself. When you think about it like this your intuition might agree that your test is flawed: Lets say you would drag the box (over the subject to track) across the entire screen. That would not make any sense, right? If you would draw the smallest box over the subject to track, say, just 1 pixel, that wouldn't make sense either. I think you have drawn the box too large. As you can see the algorithm also keeps the aspect ratio of the box and it increases/decreases. I think the box should preferably mis a bit of the edges of the subject (you in this case) and thereby exclude most of the grass, rather than the opposite (which would be to not miss any edges of the subject but include grass). So rather leave the edges of the subject out of the box so it is filled with features it should track, rather than a lot of features (like grass and stone have a lot of 'features') that it shouldn't track. I might be wrong here. But drawing a too large box would definitely skew results I am sure. EDIT: Now that I am at 4m13s you demonstrate exactly what I mean. Do you see how the upper right corner of the box stays locked on the grass/rock where you were standing? That is because it probably does not discern you as a human from the other featuers the box has, the grass. As you also want to be able to track a bike, a kid, a car, a hot air balloon, etc, the algo probably doesn't seek for a human shape in the box. When you say: "this is the same issue I had" it might also mean that the algo is consistent and you are doing it consistently wrong. EDIT 2: Literally in the documentation of Litchi: "It is also important to select your object carefully. Avoid including too much of the background in the selection and make sure the object you want to track is not too small on the video preview.". Your tracking review might be honest, but I think it is not correct as it might keep people from buying the app and actually have a better experience if used correctly. I am no affiliate in any way to the Litchi app though. And thanks for the video I have a better impression of the app for sure.
Could you do a similar video using Maven? I know it only supports iOS and has better and more functions than Litchi. I am still looking for a conclusive verdict on whether to get Litchi or Maven
I think probably darker clothes to give a better contrast between you and the background would’ve helped it did seem to do a bit better from behind you when it could see the black backpack
Thanks I actually bought this yesterday to test however my experience was the same as yours so I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Waypoints isn't enough for me to pay that price for an app. Really debating on biting the bullet just to get a mini 3 with the features built in its just sad cause I've only had the mini 2 less than a couple of months. Great Videos Matthew I watched a lot of them but first time to comment on one!
Do you still use Litchi ?? I have DJI mini 2 and DJI air 2 And have only used Maven. Do you never have trouble with follow me function on Litchi ? Regards Europe Denmark 🇩🇰
Have you tried: dronelink 3.3 I think the Tracking follow the Remote instead of keep searching the subject... Very better anyway? (Sorry for mi English, I’m French Canadian)
I’m not sure of the difference between follow me and active track modes. I appreciate follow me tracks the controller rather than the person, but since the person will presumably have the controller with them, wouldn’t the 2 modes basically do the same thing?
Hi Mattheww. Have you used drone link before and any chance of a video on it please? Also I am currently doing my GVC. Have you completed your A2 CofC just out of interest. It is not included in my GVC which was a little annoying.
Don’t like the app one but I will never use it again I actually deleted it after spending the money on it. Waypoints okay the rest is crap you can’t get cinematic videos with this app. And I hate trolls do not comment this is my opinion keep your own opinions to yourself.
