I am still really confused and concerned by things. Great that they have temporarily lifted the restriction but it's for 3 months only. It will go back in on the 1st Jan via firmware most likely. But the Air 3 and Mavic 3 Classic which have C-1 labels on have EXACTLY the same rules about height as C-0. Their operational rules for both these classifications is identical in the EU. No flight expected over uninvolved people (if it happens, overflight should be minimised); No flight over assemblies of people; Maintain flight altitude below 120m above ground level. The only major difference between them is you need to have done the appropriate online training and passed the online exam to be allowed to fly a C-1 drone in the A1 open category. This is not needed for C-0. This is the only advantage to a C-0 drone in the EU. So are DJI going to put this same restriction into the Air 3 and Mavic 3 Classic on January 1st? I can see no reason looking at the rules why it would limited to the Mini 4 Pro. This is a really huge question. If you have bought a Mini 3 Pro (or any Mini which is sub 250g) and it does not have a label on, which I don't believe they will until they are sold in January 2024, then you can still legally fly in the A1 open category after this. DJI have said they will put this max height limit in firmware for the Mini 3 Pro in January so you can then get a C-0 label sent to you...but you don't need it and you will still be legal. So don't do it! From the EASA page: After 1 January 2024, if you have purchased a drone before that date without a class identification label, you will still be able to fly it in subcategory A1 if it weighs up to 250g or in subcategory A3 if it weighs is up to 25kg. The rules, as you state are above ground level, not take off level. So are DJI going to make the GPS smarter so it knows the ground level for what it is flying over?

If they drop the Air 3 and Mavic 3 to 120m above home point for the whole flight I think Ebay will be full of DJI drones, it's potentially a huge problem, unless they can give us a disclaimer like I got here in the video. The other problem Philip, is that this wasn't a firmware update, I just woke up and there it was, I didn't accept anything, so that's a problem we might not have any control over at all. Either DJI offer us a disclaimer with the 500m option like they have here in this quick fix, or they make the GPS smarter and it knows where 120 AGL is (I'm guessing it knows anyway as the maps are very detailed)... OR they allow us to input our license number in to unlock it, which would probably be for the best when it comes to humanity. Either way, if this was increased to 500m as a temporary measure the community will not be happy for a couple of obvious reasons.

Thank you so much for sharing this Phillip! I've canceled my Mini4 pro order as soon as I've checked your last video about 120m height limit. Now it's time to reorder it again :) I really hope that DJI wont push a firmware update next year (April 2024) for reduce the height back to 120m max, since I've read that this drone regulations come to full power in April next year. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed it will stay like this, and will have a disclaimer for more advanced drone pilots with licenses such as myself. I love this too, and hopefully because I was honest and transparent with the RU-vid community my video has something to do with this. To be honest I did it not only for you guys, but for me. The Mini 4 Pro is what I've always wished for in a travel drone, and when DJI goes and makes it, the EU go and limit it, so hopefully this means I'll be able to fly it where I want, and where you want.

Thank you Phillip! I am a law abiding citizen, and 120 meter is not a problem at all. Due to both the hospital and the oil-installations in the North Sea, we have a lot of low-flying helicopters in the area, so safety first). However I'm not very fond of stupidity - and as you have pointed out meters above startingpoint is not the same as meters agl. I'm glad stupidity didn't win this one...

I'm pretty much law abiding too, but yes, 120m AGL is very important where I fly, whereas 120m above home point really doesn't interest me as you start getting this Google Maps view the higher you go. 120m AGL is all I need.

it's about the law, since dji locked 120m limit on take off point, not where exactly drone fly above ground in certain moment (so you cant for example fly over hill or a object). in reality, all this new regulation, that dji is faced more and more, coming from some other reasons, but lets not get into politics and all that..

It's possible you were in a zone where it wouldn't allow you, and it's possible that it won't let you fly higher than a certain height when your at home point, only at certain areas AGL, who knows. Mine seems to work, but I'm in the EU.

When I do go above the 120m, I get an annoying, fairly large dialogue windowon the controller screen warning me that I have done so. It partially obscures the controller window while you're flying and doesn't seem to go away if I'm above 120m. Anyone know how to make the dialogue window disappear?

My Mini 2 has always had this option. I am in NZ though so prob not as restrictive as the EU. Still, we have the same 120m rule...which is difficult to stick to when we don't have much in the way of flat land. It's not 120m from ground level, it's 120 m from the home point. So for example if you are hiking and you start the drone at one point but then walk 200m upwards, you change the home point to where that 200m mark is (you can change home point while the drone is flying) and so therefore the 120m limit is still active but because you've moved upward of 200m, the 120m limit is now from that point. But in all honesty, when up in the mountains with no flight restrictions, no one will know you've flown up to 500m, unless either a low flying aircraft comes by and sees it. Thanks.

No, it's actually 120m agl... but the problem here is that the drone has no idea what height it is above ground level, so in the Class 0 it'll have to be capped at 120m above take off point. In the mountains I usually am way, way lower than the mountains and a lot of the time even 500m wouldn't be enough to get you above the mountain tops.

Yes, and they've confirmed that to me too in official emails, but, but, whilst it is at 120m now, you also have the choice as you saw with a disclaimer to go higher if you need to, I'm hoping it stays this way.

I was thinking about buying the Mini 4 in US and them bring it here in Europe to try "getting over" this EU problem (since I saw in other videos that the US drones didn't have this limitation) now I can just buy it here. The US version wouldn’t change anything, it GEO locates, so you’d spend a lot of money basically having the same final result. It’s lucky that right now DJI has given us a disclaimer and we can move it to 500m in the EU.

Many people don't like to hear this now, but at altitudes of 120m and higher, this drone can quickly become a toy of the conditions. Up there, there can be completely different walls than you think and the air can be so thin that the performance of the small drone is not enough.Let's be honest .who really needs 120m height with these drones. People should be grateful for this great product, which can do almost everything on its own. If you want more, you should go for larger drones. Best wishes from Germany

Yeah, that isn’t correct. The air thins at around 5500m. The drone is fine above 120m, and 500m is a safe height if we need it depending on its AGL. I sometimes need to go higher when I’m faced with a mountain. All the best from Poland.

i have seen footage (mavic 2 i think) done in top of himalayas, so i guess drone can fly even at 5k+ above sea (but technicaly i think manual says to not) without much problems. how many times should be repeated: unlocking 120m is not about hacking regulation etc, its about ta have ability to use that 120m agl buffer, when terrain change from flat to steep and/or when you are confronted with high object (let say around 100m or so), where rules alows fly-over till let say 150m agl. when drones will be equpied with some high tech lidars, that could measure agl distance in every moment, than i guess, they could say we will lock height on legal limit. but yet again, cars also go way faster beyond legal street limit and do kill way more people than this toy drone does and somehow they're still not restricted or locked to let say 120 km/h.

Phil I’d be putting the confetti away mate if I was you - Although height restrictions have literally been lifted,weight restrictions haven’t - You can’t fly a mini 4 pro on a mini 3 battery because it’s too heavy ffs! And DJI kindly advise you of the fact by indicating that you have a plus battery installed - The warning is ok but it is Permanent and block a good portion of the screen - I hold a A2 cofc certificate so can fly my mini 4 overweight under the C2 category but the drone doesn’t know that and still displays the warning permanently 😢I think ‘The man’ is going to win mate

I’m in Australia and it goes to 500m. I heard that this is location based so when you go to EU countries it will activate the 120m lock. I have also seen people in Czech saying they could go to 500m any other EU people confirmed it’s not a hard lock to 120m in other EU countries.

Thank you! Excellent fix. Can you also handle plus batteries for the EU region. There are people who have the right to fly over 250g drones in the EU area and plus batteries are useful. Plus batteries don't make the drone illegal - only one classification changes.

To be honest I don't remember if I flew over 120m even once in my life (and I have DJI drones starting from Phantom 2).... but heaving that stupid limitation was crazy... it limited us in so many places. Users should be responsible for what they are doing - in my opinion this confirmation messages should be bigger, user should confirm it two or three times before setting new altitude and additionally before each flight it should be automatically set back to 120m so the user has to change it again and confirm that he understand the consequences. Anyway - GREAT NEWS. On many many groups I saw discussion about this wrong implementation of the "120m law... it is good that DJI is listening to us. 👍👍👍

As an EASA certified A2 pilot, I should be able to enter my UID and unlock at will the max height allowed. It's like passing your driving license but limited to 50kmh because some others didn't pass it. And the fact that DJI unlock this feature WITHOUT a firmware update that requires users to approve is really concerning. They will surely roll this back the 1st of Jan 24 to comply with EU reg and C0 mark and again without any prior user approval. I wanted to get a mini 4 or even the 3 pro, now I'll wait and see few months...

Hi Phillip, I am sorry, but I don't get it. DJI is aware that in nearly all countries, the maximum allowable height is 120 m (400 ft), which is the default preset on any DJI drone. You can override this preset, as you demonstrated in your video, up to 500 m, though the pilot must be aware of the consequences of such adjustment, hence the warning that pops up on the screen. Every single DJI drone I owned since Phantom 3 pro, through all the Mavics, Minis was configurable up to 500 m.

Yes, that's correct, but in my previous video you'll see DJI maxed it out at 120m, which was changed this morning to 500m with a disclaimer. Now, 120m is the full legal limit, but once you fly away from your home point the terrain might change to 100m, so you could be at 220m at that point, at the same time being at 120m AGL and still be fully legal as long as you can see the drone.

they were restricted to 2000m at first (or maybe even completely open at the begging of first dji models) , i think. then they locked then down to 500m agl by software updates etc. just don't be stupid with your drones abn follow the rules, that's it. cars can also goes over 200km/h, but you wont do that on public road or driving in public areas..

You can do until January 2024, yes. Then it's 120m above take off point apparently, so it'll be limited for use in such a country as Norway in my opinion.

We all know that unfortunately there will be a small amount of people who will abuse this when not in mountainous areas. The other, safer way around it would be where the topography of a given area is uploaded to the app and the drone will not go higher than 120m if not in those areas. As an extra, the mountain could even have its own geofence or something? I don't know. That way people can without a doubt only fly 120m above the surface

In many EU countries, the speed limit on the highway is 130 km/h. Why don't they limit the speed of cars then. Because the responsibility lies with the driver and not with the car manufacturer.

Yes, we have 140km in Poland, however there is always some idiot that has to do 220km+. I think with drones it's similar and there is always one bad apple that F's it for the rest of us flying next to an airport or something. Anyway, 120m AGL would be perfect, I just don't know the quality of the maps DJI has and how easily it could be implemented.

I'm not sure I'd call it pressure on DJI, but I think transparency is important here, especially on DJI's part, customers will trust them more. If they know they will drop it down to 120m again, people should know as the Mini 4 Pro isn't a cheap drone, and if someone needs that height they would probably be better off going for the Air 3 straight away instead of not being sure.

- I understand From April 2024 sub 250g drones in the EU will need to carry the C-0 label. The C-0 classification does indeed lock you to max 120m in Europe, I can see UK will follow! - CAA Rules in the UK are all over the place at the moment and most of the UK rules are mirrored from the EU. - CAA UK Rules say must have manual control of your drone at all times? -Line off Sight, ho I can't go highter then 120m 400ft but I fly 10,000 ft away? What? - The we have all these options i.e. automatic waypoints, quick shots and active track etc. So to me using any off these options with any DJI Drones is illegal? - Remote ID! Well, we'll be tracked and data gathered and fined just like cars we''ll be getting fines in the post for flying 2 miles away, too hight, too fast etc. - DJI do a great job, but like others say, they are getting like Apple - new drone so need new controller, batteries etc. - DJI Care Refresh? one or two years, and then small payments to repair! - Why not if you have ie. Mini 3 pro, Mini 4 Pro, air 3, mavic etc. Just pay around £100 a year for all drones together insurance, instead of DJI Care Refresh for each drone costing hundreds? - Anxiety whilst flying, Drone Assit says you can fly here, then get where ever just to see signs saying NO DRONE popping up everywhere, am I going to be fined, arrested etc. - DJI Mini Pro's are great but try and fly one over the cliffs of dover in Average Wind Speeds lol Bewared! Sorry, I could go on and on with this list, but people just need too know, I for one can not see me flying in 2024/2025 never mine buying a drone.

Have you tried flying at above 5,000 mtrs above sea level? I have the air2s, which has 120 mtrs limit, but it won't even let me take off if I'm standing at above 5000 mtrs. Most of our mountains are about that height above sea level. Interesting

@PhillipSkraba I'm in Bolivia. High in the Andes. My air2s is fine at 4,000 mtrs but won't take off if I'm 5001 mtrs. The old mavic 2 used to be fine and my evo 1 would supposedly fly at up to 8 000 mtrs above sea level. I have lots of film of the lower parts of mountains but can't do top down shots.

good news. However, I fear that this increase in the height limit is only temporary (because it can boost sales). I fear that with the introduction of the new EU drone rules on January 1, 2024, the limit will be reduced again to 120m above the starting point. That's why I'm keeping my 3pro with 500m (I don't do any more updates coz that will certainly come with the mini3pro too). DJI can hardly resist the bureaucrats in Brussels in the long run😪 which r more catholic than the pope🤪😂

This looks like pure regulation issue and nothing to do with DJI, but in fact as they have gps data they are perfectly capable to calculate relative heigh and put restriction on this, rather than being lazy and calculate just one starting point.
