Great comparison video! I bought the DJI OM4 a couple of weeks before the Zhiyun Smooth Q3 came out. When I first saw the Q3 I realized I could have saved myself some money and had most of the features of the OM4. This video helped me realize that I made the right decision for my situation. Changing gimbals modes on the OM4 is pretty easy as long as your using the DJI app. I also like and have needed the extra battery life and the ability to charge the phone while filming.
hey Bamboo, they are both great, I like the magnetic clamp because I shoot and go most of the time, but I like the quick access to gimbal modes of the Smooth Q3. price is also great for the Smooth Q3!

@@OttoJulian_ You will probably decide for DJi OM4, because I also have DJs for eight Pocket Extension Rod and I am very satisfied and the magnetic grip is probably a big plus.
Is there anyone here who has been using this gimbal for a long time? Is it working fine without any issues or faults? Yesterday, I ordered this gimbal and watched some videos on youtube in which people expressed issues they encountered after using it for 3 weeks or 1 month. Now, I am worried about it.
hi it all depends on what you are going to use it for, which phone you have and your shooting style, that's why I present the most relevant differences or similarities with both gimbals. Someone asked the same question for a Samsung S21+, and this was my answer: "I have that same phone. If price is not an issue it would be a hard pick for me. I keep using the OM4 more even though there are some advantages on the Q3, this might be because I am already used to the limitations of the OM4, and I also still love the magnetic clamp which is extremely convenient for my shooting style. Now the Q3 has been gaining a special place too, the mode button is heaven sent and that is my favorite feature from this gimbal (24fps inside the app is always welcome but I usually get around this) I'd say that they are very similar and you won't go wrong with any of them. Since price is not an issue, look at those little details and ask yourself how much do you care about them (or not)."

The clamp of the Q3 will be a better choice for that phone. It will fit on the OM4 but it will a bit too tight. On the other hand, OM4 has more options for story mode
I’m having one query here that I haven’t figured out yet. I want to make all my videos by keeping the mobile in portrait mode. I can do that by triple tapping the back button. But whenever I click in Smart tab in the ZY cami app, the gimbal puts the mobile back into landscape mode which I don’t like. Is it possible to use all the smart features in portrait mode? Also, I do not see any option to do it using joystick. It only allows me to rotate the gimbal, not the mobile (like a wheel).
Got the Q3 for like £85 recently - it's alright although need to have a full read through the manual. Seems the app kinda sucks especially on Android, so may try that Filmic Pro. I actually don't yet know how to lock exposure and focus in the Zhiyun app yet.. on most apps you just long press the screen.
@@OttoJulian_ wow, I was just assuming I was being a noob and just hadn't found the setting - considering nearly every guide I found to getting nice shots with your smartphone tells you to lock these settings in it seems like a huge omission.
Agreed. I mentioned this almost a year ago when I reviewed the Smooth XS, a 2 axis gimbal and I realized that I couldn't lock the exposure. I'm glad you brought it up, I have wrongly assumed that this was not an issue anymore and I should had mentioned that on this and other videos. On iPhone it does work, and when I used my android I forgot to test that feature (I did when I read your comment just to be sure). Sorry for not having the info earlier on the video, and thanks for the heads up
I’ve always said that it depends on your shooting style. Q3 is easier to change modes quickly, OM4 has the magnetic clamp which makes it easier to setup. OM4 is more portable, etc

hello there! yes, the same problems with Android are still present, and the Smooth Q3 have some of them as well as described. The one issue I hate is the ability to shoot at different frames per second, but I just go to the native camera app if I need to do so. That's a tough question, about the feature that I like the most between the magnetic clamp and quick access to the gimbal modes. I like them both! it's hard to select one (if OM5 comes out with both features I'll be so happy). I guess it will depend on the day and shooting scenarios. For the most part I go with the OM4 because I remove the phone from the gimbal very frequently, but If I'm dedicating a lot of time making a video where the phone stays on the clamp most of the time, I will prefer the smooth Q3
Otto, This video is fab. A clear, concise comparison. I was about to purchase my first gimbal being the OM4 after God knows how many review videos on different gimbals. Then I saw the Q3 had come out. This left me back to square one after watching numerous review....again, what do I do. But your video has really helped, I think. I am on Samsung A50 android, so i have been careful to understand which gimbal app works best on android as i know many do have features unavailable. But your clear comparison has, or is, swinging me to the Q3. Any additional thoughts please let me know. Thanks again.
Hey there! thanks for your feedback, and comment! yeah Android users like you and me have more to weigh when thinking about buying a gimbal. I usually look at what the gimbal has to offer outside of their App, since I find myself using the native camera app most of the time just to be able to shoot at whatever frame rate I want to. That's where the Q3 is better with the mode button. I can't stop saying this but the magnetic clamp of the OM4 is still something that I like a lot. I can also tell you that tracking was a little bit weird on my Android with the Q3 but that is something that I expect Zhiyun to fix via firmware update. Clone mode result on the Q3 is not too good, but I don't use that at all so for me it doesn't matter. Hope you get my point and thanks again for watching and sharing your thoughts over here
Will depend on your shooting style and other factors. I like the magnetic clamp for quick access to the gimbal and the phone. Smooth 3 has a dedicated mode button which the OM 4 doesn’t have.
Both of them are going to be great to be honest, as they both have portrait mode and they are very stable. Om4 has a nice discount today and maybe tomorrow on Amazon Prime Day! If you like using a case on your pro max, it may not fit (with the case) on the magnetic clamp... and depending on the size it might or might not fit on the clamp of the smooth q3

it's a good practice to try to download their respective app, that's step number one to know if it will work. The app will not download or open if your phone doesn't support it. On the official list of the dji OM4, the S7 doesn't show up so there is a good chance that it's not supported.

it depends, what's more important for you. OM4 is easier to setup, Q3 has buttons to change modes. let me know if you have any doubts that are not mentioned on the video

I bought the Zhiyun Smooth Q3 but after turn it on a 3rd time using it filming my car it died and never turned back on. The battery seems like an issue with Zhiyun product Im returning it and buying the DJI Om4 ....now should i get the OM4 SE or OM4?
wow too bad that that happened to you. SE and the regular one are the same, the SE doesn't come with a few accessories that the regular one has, but most people don't use it anyway (get the SE and save some money)

I think the reason you cannot use the mimo app without a gimbal connected Is because if people were able to use the app before buying the Gimbal, they wouldn't buy the Gimbal Buying the DJI is guaranteeing you will have to replace it in the future when you realise its the cheap end of the market
interesting theory. I went ahead to try out a few different cases, Zhiyun, Hohem and DJI won't open the camera app if there is no connection, only Moza seems to let you do that with a warning that there is no gimbal connected. DJI also won't open the camera function with any of it's most expensive devices, such as the Pocket 2, or any of the drones. I take it that you don't like the OM4, so which one is the high end of the market that people should look for?

both are really good choices, Q3 a bit better for Android, but the tracking is more effective on the OM4, although for dancing it might not matter that much, I think?

helllo Daniel, truly depends on what you are looking for. I think both gimbals will be a good match for your S21 Ultra, you will probably have to use it without a case with the OM4
I don't have any experience with the Moza, they actually don't respond back to emails so my only experience between these 2 gimbals is with the Zhiyun. I'd go for it.
Hello Adel, there are a lot of topics to talk about when comparing 2 gimbals. The Smooth Q3 is very similar to the OM4, and there is a video about the OM4 vs the iSteady on my channel. Furthermore, I'm working on a gimbal showdown, between OM4, Smooth Q3 and the iSteady. If nothing breaks my schedule, that video should be out in about 12 days. For now, I could just mention that the iSteady is smaller, more portable, cheaper, etc. The Smooth Q3 will support external lenses, changing mode is easier than on the iSteady, price is OK, not the cheapest, not the most expensive and ergonomic is better than on the iSteady.... hope this helps
Dear, my gimble smooth Q3 shuts off in the middle of the shoot every after few seconds however my battery is full. I am using the Samsung galaxy note 9 with it. Please can you help me out what is the issue going on with the gimble ???
@@OttoJulian_ bro i have no idea what you mean by all the axis unlocked !! bcz before starting on my gimble I usually balance my note 9 perfectly well and when I switch it on, it always stood in a vertical position and then when I start shooting it, after a few seconds it started shutting down in both portrait and landscape positions.

I am going to return it back and maybe will order DJI Osmo 4 on its replacement

@@OttoJulian_ it seems like on both the q3 and om4, there are limitations on android phones? My key priority is probably the stability and quality. Om4 is having a promo now around usd 100 while q3 (without casing) is around usd 86.the price difference is not huge.. unsure which would be a better choice for s21+ despite watching lots of reviews and comparison 😅

your phone is quite new, and should not have any problems with these gimbals. Smooth 4 is older by now, and heavier, not sure if I'd recommend that over the OM4 or the Q3.
@@OttoJulian_ Just got zhiyun q3 for today. zy cami app work just fine. Your right about the dolly zoom the one you tried in samsung I got this same effect. Over all it was a nice gimbal. Thank you for your videos it help me a lot in deciding what to buy.
