I just bought dji osmo action 4 today and damn i noticed it gets hot very very quickly. i never had this issue with osmo action 3. if you are reading this, buy the 3 and dont waste your money on oa4
@@wheelxtech im freakin stupid for not checking this overheating issue. of all features, this is what i missed. geez. 1080p at 60fps i can already sense the heat. this is a total waste of money i fully regret buying this shit. 😞
I am in time watch ur comment. I almost purchase action 4 coz the ability of its night mode. in other Channel, I saw action 4 Pass the overheating test (Hero 12 didnt), I am confuse now. Edit. insta 360 ace pro is my pick (finally), the best
@@alsurya4953 I’ve seen the action 3 pass the action 4 in the heat test on two separate channels now. It seems we all have to wait for the osmo 5 at this rate 😂.
Nice comparison. I have a couple of the original Osmo Action cameras as use them all the time and have never had an overheating issue with them that I can recall. Granted I don't use 4k a lot and when I do it's not for a very long time but still I don't even know overheating was a thing with any of them. I guess it's how you use them and I don't push them that much. I'm looking to get a new Osmo Action to use with my other two originals ( which I still have no problem with ) and am leaning towards the OA3 after watching several videos comparing them to each other. Thanks for the informative and well put together video.
Thanks for your comment, I tried to share my experiences and hopefully it helps some of the users/buyers. Actually the overheating got better after fw update but still below oa3, which is normal with bigger sensor size and gps added, anyways it's still better than the hero12 in terms of overheating, most probably at weekend the comparison video will be ready. ✌🏻
Hi @Helderhugo , I don't know, I will test it as soon as it's available and upload a video 😉 overheating is normal in this compact size, question is, is it at an acceptable level or not. That DJI made it worse with the new model is not understandable. DJI OA 3 is the best pick in my opinion right now.
@@AdventuresInMyBronco I really don't know but for me it's a downgrade , I have tested the cams in real life conditions (Mountainbike) the result was similar to that I had in the room. Image quality, low light performance are really much much better. Hopefully they will fix it via fw.
@@rickaguilar1833 I will compare the GoPro 12 with the OA4, I have finally time for that and I will check the temperature with a thermal cam, I want to see how hot they get when they overheat.
I'm trying to distract myself until GP 12 comes out - and actually a month or two after that so I can see enough reviews and comparisons like this. Thank you.
Hi Ron, I'm really disappointed , I was pretty happy with the action 4, until the overheating comparison. It's a kind of downgrade. The main reason people chose DJI over the GoPro is the better Heat Management, if I want to buy an overheating action cam with brilliant image quality , I pick the GoPro 11 😂
Wait you didn't tell us which camera was the action 4 or which was the 3 for the recording videos? and only 15 seconds for recording in 4K 60fps with the action 4? Im assuming most people record with 30fps? and how long does that last until it overheats?
Hi @jemstar33 the left one is action 4, when you check the low light performance part, it is pretty obvious, action 4 has much better LL performance.I record most of the time 30fps, without overheating I would go with 60fps, easier to get slow motion with 60 fps.take care
Hi @keithlau7188 , They have the same resolution, the difference is not huge between the action cams, action 4 shines at low light and when you record close to the object, better focussed in my opinion.
But if one is looking for a FIRST DJI action cam, I say again, FIRST DJI action cam, which will you recommend, an OA3 or an OA4? I was just surprised when in your whole video you were comparing the OA3 and OA4 but all of a sudden, you included the H12 in your topic at the end of your video. This will make viewers looking for a DJI AC confused. Please be consistent next time. Thank you.
Hi , thanx for your comment, yes you are right , it’s not easy to say which one people should buy, it depends on the needs , if the image quality is more important than the overheating, action 4, but if the overheating has the highest priority then action 3. If you have no hurry, better to wait for the h12 to see what is improved ✌🏻😊 thanks again
Did you mention and I missed it after the video test which camera was which between 1) and 2) ? The footage on the right looked sharper, which one was that? Also, does the 3 overheat in 2k footage at 60fps? I am currently sending back an insta360 ONE RS due to overheating in anything over 1080p and I am curious to know about the DJI 3. Thanks.
Hi, i mentioned in the video which cam is which , the sharper one is action 4, every action cam will overheat, the question is , in comparison which action cam lasts longer, in my experience, action 3 is the best in terms of overheating.i hope the answer is helpful.action 4 is in every aspect better than action 3 except overheating.
what room temp you had? the most important question you have left out...for overheating test. Also I'm guessing you are in Europe. Other regions have higher temp allowances so they last a bit more. Other than that, nice test! Allmost all other pai.. "honest" reviewers say that this doesn't overheat more than the 3. It's really hard to find any non biased reviews out there...most are being paid by gopro/dji (indirectly by offering the review sample as a gift) and they swear they aren't :D
Hi @claudiuoroian3911 First of all thanks for your comment, I think the room temperature is not important , if it’s 25, it’s for both cams 25 😉 I mean same conditions for both Honestly until the overheating test, I was pretty impressed by the action 4 but overheating test changed my mind, I was on a bike tour and action 4 overheated very fast, similar to the value i got in the room. I’m 100% honest and not biased and nobody would pay/sponsor my small channel 😅 I’m buying everything with my own money ✌🏻
@@wheelxtech room temp is important as some have AC on and keep a steady 21 so the camera overheats after a longer period of time. I had the camera but returned it because it is dying very fast if i scuba dived at 28 C water temp so it is not much use to me unfortunately. I never had the 3 so I cant compare but these cameras look like a joke to me if they wont last long at 30C. In europe there are many days in summers with much more that that... they really need to add some sort of cooling chamber or something. If a phone doesnt overheat and records even better quality and stabilization ( just check iphone 14 active recording mode) I refuse to belive it is imposible for action cams. But I think they dont want to raise their costs and give us the same junk every year.
@@claudiuoroian3911 totally agree, instead of every year releasing a slightly better (or worse as action 4 😂) they should take more time for innovation, development and release a much better product, GoPro will be released next month and it’s a slightly better GoPro 11 when I read the rumors
@@claudiuoroian3911 iPhones use Apple processors, they are very technological and low power consuming, that's why phones don't heat too much. also, they are physically much bigger and have more surfaces to reduce the heat. I wanted to buy Action 4 but very dissapointed after these videos about overheating. Any recommendations guys? I'm looking a camera for motorcycle videos.
2:20 .... Camera #1 is Action 4..it seems sharper, clearer ..especially on the grasses and trees and brighter.. Camera #2 is Action 3 6:07 ..WHOA...what a huge difference. 😲😳
Really I don't be sure Go Pro 12 will be better than Osmo Action 4 I don't have this cameras but If I will be buying sure I will be getting Osmo Action 4 nothing is perfect Go Pro come with 8K that is a Microwave in the hand wait and make a video don't film60fps action camera has not space for ventilation that heat. only if you use it under water I don't know sure will be resist that tempeture in the water too.
Hi Orlando, thanks for your comment. I really don't know what GoPro will improve with the 12. I will test it and share my experiences here in my channel once it's released. I am not being sponsored or fanboy of a brand, just trying to show you all the aspects of the cams as good as I can. If you have any specific questions about the cams, don't hesitate 😊 You are totally right with the overheating, these tiny cams have their limits, I'm just comparing them and trying to help you to pick the best for your needs ✌🏻
I think only the low light and slightly better focus are the main reason one would upgrade to the Action 4. Low light wise, compared to action 3. it's impressive. but I think overall the action 4 is a minor upgrade. accounting the overheating that's now in the action 4. it makes even less of an upgrade. it's more like a refresh.
Hi @melparayno21 when you watch the sponsored channels reviews it’s a game changer 😁 here you have the honest comparison, I would not recommend it to action 3 owners, who cares about overheating.if the overheating is not important , it’s the better action cam for sure but as you said it’s a minor refresh ✌🏻
Worth it to upgrade to OA4 if you're looking for better image quality and low light performance specially. Personally, I don't mind the overheating issue if you're time limit in recording is only just 5mins maximum.
Hi @dimmsy overheating issue got better after fw update, still not as good as oa3 but with bigger sensor it’s normal.everbody has different preferences, you should get what the best for you is, as you described image quality, have fun ✌🏻 I have both and pretty happy with them
I already got OA4 instead of getting Hero12 because of the leak specs, I kinda have a low hope on them fixing the overheating performance of it, even if it ended up better in low light, but still lingers on overheating, I might ended up the right choice, but we'll never know lol.. in my testing on my OA4, room temp of 29℃ at 2.7k 60fps, it took pretty much all of the battery without overheating, BUT recharging it then redo on 4K 60 (which I will barely do with my shootings) it took 50mins to overheat, tho definitely afterwards I did it with a aluminum case, it extended the time within 10mins
@yasunakaikumi have fun with your action cam ✌🏻 I will test the h12 once it’s released and see what has been improved, my wishlist 1- usb c connection would be nice like Dji 2- better overheating performance 3-magnetic/quick release mount According to leaks nr. 3 is not going to be the case. I will upload the comparison video with the OA4 as soon as I get one
@@wheelxtech one thing if you live in europe, did you tried to apply the "crackconfig" patch to your unit? since I heard DJI limits european models temperature threshold to lower temp that patch should open up the temp more higher like everyone else in the world. it's kinda weird to me how fast your unit shuts down compare to mine because I obviously tortured mine but I nowhere get the same 15mins top result on even 38℃ outside summer here in Japan (I get 45mins in 4K60)
Hi, I heard about it but during the comparison it's not very important I think, both action cams are not patched and both in Europe. I just wanted to show how much better the heat management of action 3 is. GoPro has something similar as well for Europe?
@@wheelxtech if my memory serves correctly GoPro does have it since Hero 10, I've seen some article both Hero 10 and Action 2 has those problem with E.U. regulation (the regulation is about not letting the device overheats above 48℃)... and also even in forum e.u. users tend to complain about it the most, I haven't upgrade my GoPro Hero 9 to the latest, but surely Hero 9 can record as long as OA3.
If overheating is important for you, yes.but if the low light performance is more important then OA4, I have both and if it’s hot outside, leaving the OA4 at home, unfortunately it’s overheating much faster than OA3.
@@wheelxtechi orderd the action 4 at the moment because the action 3 was not in stock. The difference was about 70 euro's. Because i had some coupons to use😂.
@@anthonyg87 it is not a bad action cam, low light performance, image quality are great.the only problem I have is the overheating.when you shoot 30fps it should not be a huge issue. I am waiting for the action 5, I will test and compare it as well.
Hi, the left one is action 4, when you watch the low light comparison in the church you will see it, low light performance difference is huge.take care ✌🏻
Out of the cam , I did not touch anything, Dji is changing the color profile with every new model, for example pocket 3 is totally different, which I am testing right now
Hi, I really don't know which one is the best, Im using this one for action cams and DJI mini 3 Pro Drone, no issues so far: SanDisk Extreme microSDXC UHS-I 256 GB, A2, C10, V30, U3, 190 MB/s
Im lowk still wondering which was which, because i thought I knew in the first half of the comparison segment but then by the end it seemingly switched or something hahaha
Sponsored reviews most probably, no one i know could achieve longer footage with the oa4 than the oa3, it got better with fw updates but still not as good as the oa3 ✌🏻 take care
There is a Patch for the overheating on the EU versions of the osmo 4 camera, to remove the cam shutting down at 48 degrees celsius. Now try a test again.
Hi @1bmw_clubsport , thanks for your message , I will do it next week and publish a video. Nice car by the way 👍🏻 greetings from E92 M3 Competition driver ☺️
@@wheelxtech A man of culture aswell, thanks for nice words and likewise on the M3 😀- If you search here on YT, you will see its just a simple code, that should be written into the SD card. I did this yesterday, so havent had the possibility to test it yet. And i will probably first be able to do so next year, i get about 10min recoding on track, and then its shuts down.. hopefully it can be extended a bit.
Have you used the same memory cards for both cameras? i read that it impacts the overheating issue a lot, trying to understand is it really so, or it's only because of HDR always on in 4th version? Thank you for valuable review!
Hi @SuperJorkins thanks for your comment. I have the same memory cards for both action cams, which I also use with the mini 3 pro etc. It was also the first thing I thought actually, switched the memory cards, same result.accept overheating, great action cam.
Hi, unfortunately im not the only one reporting the overheating issue.I will buy the GoPro 12 and make a comparison video when im back home.Glad to hear that you have no issues ✌🏻
I had the both cams with the same settings in the test. Fact is, it overheats faster than the OA3. accept overheating it's a great action cam.Maybe a Software Update can improve it.
@@wheelxtech if you are in Europe, there is a config file that can disable turning off on some level of temperature. You need to put the config file on you sd cart and it will stop turning off. Just google for it, it helps to fix the issue for version 4
Osmo Action 4 is not announced as a vlogging camera, Osmo Action 3 is. Bigger sensor will ofcourse give more heat, and again it is an action camera ment for wind cooling. Your OA3 is not sharp, also they have a high quality lens on the OA4 now making it crisp. I sold my OA3, it was a great camera but I never felt in love with it like I did with OA4. So I have bought 2. They also have fixed the internal sound recording on OA4, it never got fixed on OA3. Also OA4 have gyro recording now.
Hi, thanks for your comment, you are right, they need to be in action during recording , I just wanted to share the comparison, accept overheating I really like the improvements of oa4, overheating is maybe only in Europe the case , special regulations, I will install the update , which should fix the overheating and upload a new video.✌🏻
@@wheelxtech You did a good test there, but just wanted to mention about the heating. I have done some tests myself and OA4 is sharper than OA3 at 30 cm even if OA4 should not have sharp focus until 40 cm. I'm in Europe too.
@ArcticExploring not only at 30cm, OA4 is overall sharper than the OA3 😉 my only complain is overheating, I also used them on my mountain bike tour in summer and OA3 was better at higher frame rates. I will install the new FW for OA4 and make another test. I also just bought the GoPro12 and I will compare them as well. I want to mention that nobody is sponsoring me or sending me free cams for testing. Everything my honest opinion. Thanks again for your comment.
Wind cooling? What about people who go on holidays in the Mediterranean, Middle East, Indonesia, Africa, etc in summer and wish to capture family moments under the sun? Most of these action cameras die after 15-20 minutes and don't recover if not put under water. The majority of RU-vidrs use these cameras in low temperatures and for just a few minutes as they wish to capture small pieces of footage and post process/edit. Ordinary people wish to just record continuously. This video represents a great thermal test with low airflow, thanks 👍
I have had the OA3 for about 4 months and while I really wanted to like this cam, I just couldn't because of terrible performance in shaded areas, let alone lower-lit areas. It jitters so much to the point of being unusable. So disappointed. I got a new OA4 now and hoping it'll rectify the issue. Time will tell..
@@Visualchanneltr I have action 3, action 4, hero 11 and insta360 go 3, action 3 is the best in my opinion.overheating issue kills the action 4.hopefully it can be fixed via fw update.
Depends on the conditions, every action cam would overheat when it’s hot outside. Action 4 overheats faster than the action 3, the difference is not that dramatic but action 3 is still the best in terms of overheating ✌🏻 action 4 has much better image quality
