Yours are the most useful videos about dji cameras i could find. No artificial waste of time, straightforward to the point. Your videos deserve more views, definitely
I think I prefer the Pocket 2 for low light and less problems with overheating. The compact design of the Action 2 is great but no flexibility when it comes to longer record times. Most people will not record continuously but you never know when you will need to
Exactly. The pocket 2 is really made for walking vlogs. The Action 2 for shorter clips, more action like, having better quality slo mo, and hyperlapse. I'm thinking about getting one of these but I can't decide which one. Lol
@@OttoJulian_ Yep! Cam A with a Rode Wireless 2 on a Manfrotto mini and Cam B at a 45 deg with a slight zoom on a Gorillapod. Generay panel for key light. It's my ultralight travel rig. Loving it.
A lot of people seem to make a big deal that the Pocket 2 doesn’t have a removable battery. Personally, I have owned a Pocket 2 for 6 months now and so far and I have never felt like this was a problem.
Otto you did it again. It's a great video, good analysis and comparison. I'm happy knowing that DJI Pocket 2 is still valid (LOL) Thank you for transmitting all your experiences with your community.
haha yeah Vincent! getting older (The Pocket 2) but still strong. I wonder if DJI will release a new version this year. I think they will, but I hope it's a significant upgrade
I have them both. I chose and intermix them depending on the shooting environment. Pick the one were it's strong points shine. And when coupled with the Mimo and Lightcut apps, they both shine brightly.
I really like the format of your videos. I especially like your comparison and product review videos. Can you please create a review on the DJI pocket 2 for the instagram reels/vertical videos?
Pocket 2 has always given me trouble to do anything like that, specially if someone doesn't have the do it all handle... I should have explained with more detail but I had to make lots of cuts to the video, otherwise it would had been a looong video
This is a great video. I think the pocket 2 wins for the most part. Unfortunately it's really expensive. However the Action 2 is now discounted so that the power combo makes it much cheaper to buy. I was also looking at the insta360 go 2 and there are a lot of people that are making vlogs about this tiny little camera saying that they prefer it over the action 2. It's tiny and it's cheaper too.
I’d take the Pocket 2 among all those options but as you said, its a bit expensive. Action 2 does have some limitations if you want to record for a long period of time (non stop) and insta360 needs editing after shooting to reframe, etc which some people don’t like too much
@@OttoJulian_ Thanks for the update. Yes I agree with you. It's all about compromises. I think for the most part for vlogging it's got to be the pocket 2. I can only see the action to winning in terms of slow motion, hyperlapse Cheers 👍
@@OttoJulian_ thanks for the response can you tell me if the action to overheats when taking hyperlapse For example of us to do a hyperlapse that required one hour of you filming would it be affected by the overheating? Cheers 👍
Of course the day after you made this video there was a massive FW update for the Action 2. I have an idea you had that experience with an earlier video? Anyway, very interesting comparison.
Great video! You did a terrific job and I think this helped me make a decision for the action 2. I think I would use it the same way you would. I really like the way you get right to the point and you stick to it all the way through. You are very well organized and your presentation shows it. Thank you very much it’s been a pleasure and I will subscribe!
hello!! Thank you so much for your kind feedback and for sharing your thoughts! now the Action 2 comes with a free case that will help to dissipate the heat better and it will protect the camera from scratches, etc. Since it will help control the heat generated it will allow for longer recording periods of time, nothing crazy, but at least it minimizes the problem with overheating. I recently made a video about it, it's on my channel. (make sure they give you the case if you buy this camera)
I have the Pocket2. The action2 is not compelling enough for me to want. It relies too much on the external module for the functions that matter to me. Plus it has no protection to use as a true action camera. Scratch that lens you're done. Also the accessory ecosystem. How comprehensive is it? You got gopro here. I am not nuts about them either but their ecosystem is quite good. Plus you get older gopros and even the Osmo cheap these days. It may not have the latest wiz bang things, but imagine picking up multiple cameras for almost nothing money compared to the latest. Pickup say 2 or 3 Osmo, or Hero 7s for cheap. Those are great alternatives to the Action2, though action will beat these in image quality. But by how much? Would be fun for an image comparison old vs. new. How far have we come?
yeah, to remain small with only the camera module, some features will be "lost". I think this system was meant to further expand the camera itself by having different modules but I might be wrong. The Action 2 is compatible with Gopro accessories (mount system) but I see your point. Like I said on the video, I like the image quality of the Pocket 2 more than the one on the Action 2, and it's a shame because I thought they were going to be at least similar to make it easier to "mix and match" video clips
Otto, that was really helpful. I had a Pocket 2 and loved it. Sadly it was stolen and I'm replacing it, so I'm considering the Action 2. I have arthitic hands and found the Pocket a bit fideley. I'm going for the Action that hope will do POV/blog easier. I'll let you know!
For me = Pocket 2 is perfect for my occasional family trip, enough for normal eyes. Just enjoy recording for memories. For Pro/Vlogger = Action 2 Just my 2 cents opinion.
that's right. I feel that if you are not going to use it underwater or when it rains, or if you don't need the small form factor, the Pocket 2 is a better choice for vlogging and travel
Great video Otto - thanks for sharing! I'm really looking at getting the Pocket but think it's now best to wait until Pocket 3 is released (hopefully next month). I guess worst comes to worst the Pocket 2 may be discounted a bit :) Thanks again!
Do you need stabilization? Is it going to be at night? The action 2 will struggle with stabilization on low light. If you need to record continuously on higher resolution it will get hot way faster as well
A wonderful review and meaningful comparisons. The only thing missing were some inside vehicle shots like trains planes and buses. This would have given an idea of dynamic range and controllability.
@@OttoJulian_ I think dynamic range is critical to the type of shooting I see you doing such as shooting inside vehicles in the daytime or shooting brightly lit street scenes at night. This really pushes the camera technology no matter the "brag" of being 4K or whatever. I really appreciate your reviews a lot.
@@OttoJulian_ thank you. I anyway post my videos as 1080p. I really don't see much difference on my iMac M1 between 4K and 1080p. 2.7K would be a good compromise to allow zooming in on editing.
Hi Otto With the action 2 I miss active track and a focus point like with the osmo pocket. I use the cameras with my model trains and then the osmo pocket is significantly better. If you use both cameras outside, the Osmo Pocket is still the winner for me. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Hi Otto, can you help me which app is the best for making one click movie? The good result got the quik app from GoPro. But it got the subscription. And the other thing, what do you think about mimo app? It has not have an iPad version. How you editing your videos?
hi, sorry about the late response. I use Premiere Pro to edit my videos. I think you can download the Mimo app on iPad, otherwise you can also use Premiere Rush on iPad which I believe it's free for the basic version? Premiere Rush is like Premiere Pro's little brother
@@OttoJulian_ Hi Otto, thank you for replying even though my question was not directly comparable to the video. The program you mentioned Premiere Pro is too advanced for me, but also too expensive. Premiere Rush is an interesting alternative, nice mechanisms, but the free version is very limited. Despite the app, it would be a good solution and a native tool, unfortunately I think that many things are underdeveloped there, and the iPad version will probably never be created - it's a pity. I think I will put on a quik with gopro, it is a pity that DJI does not take an example from them, because pocket 2 itself is great equipment. Thank you again and all the best!
But which flaw can be updated with a software, like the incapability of pocket 2 for Webcam n livestream, or the less quality video of action 2 in low light?
I was going to go for the Pocket but listening to your video you point out so many good points for action2. now I'm even more confused. I will need it mostly to shoot travels on train and motorbike, but also for recording podcasts and videos for social media (nothing too complicated). I like the fact that you can use the action one as laptop webcam! Sooo ....which one should I get? help!
What feature did you like the most about the Action 2? Long term confession here: I already sold mine and I still have the Pocket 2. It’s a bit old but I think it holds really well
@@OttoJulian_ the fact that battery lasts longer, that we can stream on fb and youtube, that the screen is bigger etc. That's why I feel more confused now :)
lovely video otto...u explain awesome i have a question...few people said the motion tracking on pocket 2 is not as good as osmo pocket...is that true? and if i want to buy for vlogging should i go for pocket 2 or go pro? please do reply Much appreciated thanks and regards adil lots of best wishes from india
I'm not very familiar with the original Osmo Pocket so I wouldn't be able to answer that. I feel that the tracking of the Pocket 2 is good enough. For vlogging the Pocket 2 is a good choice, considering the tracking and stabilizaton. The GoPro will have some issues with the stabilization if you don't have enough light
I have Pocket 2. After shooting a video. I downloaded the video from the portable memory to the computer. When I play the video, a permanent subtitle appears. Probably with the details I set in Pocket 2. The permanent subtitle in the video: F / 1/8, SS 198/62, ISO 100, EV 03 How do I cancel the subtitle? Thank you
Hi Karen. I did mention overheating in the video towards the second half. Guess you didn’t make it there. Tiny cameras at higher resolution and frame rates will overheat if recording for longer periods of time. The Action 2 is not the exception
I heard you mention it overheats at high frame rate. I was just wondering if it overthrew overheats at low frame rate for long periods of usage. My pocket overheats when in use for periods of time.
@@karenmickel6205 I see! Sorry about the confusion. Yes it does still overheat, the Pocket 2 will be better than the Action 2. Here I do mention the case that helps with the temp and also a few numbers so you can see how long you can record DJI ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BnVDYRiWcNo.html
Actualy the overheating is not just bad, is insanely terrible. Great camera but useless completely because of overheating. Pocket 2 is great device. Is funny how youtubers are so scared to speak about it just because DJI would not send them another device :D
DJI is not sending me devices, so no reason for me to not mention that the way it is. I have used the whole battery (main and battery module in less than 4 hours) with no overheating, but it's because of the way I use it like I mentioned on the video. It also depends at the resolution that someone will shoot. If someone wants to use rocksteady and Horizon steady, they won't be able to shoot at 4K anyway, which is the resolution that has the most issues with overheating
I've never encountered overheating in my use of the camera, since it was released. Latest FW update (the day after this video was released!) improves efficiency and reduces the chance of overheating.
it does get hot pretty fast compared to other cameras. DJI now gives you a case that help a bit with that issue. Here is a video about it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BnVDYRiWcNo.html
The *Action 2 has one major advantage over the OSMO Pocket # 2* - The Action 2 can shoot time-lapse in 1080p, 2.7K, and *4K,* while the OSMO Pocket # 2 can shoot Time-Lapse Movies *in 1080p resolution ONLY ! 😩👎🏻*
Hi otto, your video is so good, if I want to record a walking around video, is dji pocket 2 combo creator is good enough? and with it's sound recording too, is it clear enough for recording sound/ambience of surrounding area? i watched another youtuber video about these pocket 2, but their footage not as good as yours, maybe they did it with auto setting, did you recording it with pro settting and/or nd filter is must?
hi Ian! the wireless microphone that comes on the creator combo is good enough. Sometimes I shoot with auto settings to be honest, it just depends on the situation, and same goes for the ND filter, but I will usually use it when it's bright outdoors. Bottom line is that this camera can produce very good videos :)
@@OttoJulian_ thanks for your quick response 😁, it's really great for me to watching your other video of dji, keep doing a great job and great video 👍🏻
Yeah I like the GoPro for a number of reasons, and just like the Action 2, they are more suited for other types of videos, but the Pocket 2 is really good
