I was literally in the process of returning my rs2 because I had watched every video I could find and it involved all these offset plates and counterweights and all this mess and Iiterally took it out of the box and did what you did. THANK YOU!!! the only difference is I put the focus motor on the right side to offset the left weight more. Definitely subscribed.
I experienced the same problem. The 6K Pro is too left-heavy. So I got the Smallrig cage because they have a mount at the bottom specifically for the RS2 and I figured the cage would allow me to mount accessories on the right to balance the camera. However, I don't think Smallrig properly tested the cage with the RS2 when designing it because it increases the width of the already wide body. I had to offset it to the left so much that I fear it might fall off the gimbal. The cage also raises the camera so high that the follow focus and lens support do not reach the lens. I'm now thinking I should just sell the RS2 and wait for DJI's next gimbal that would hopefully have more clearance.
We've had a Sigma 18-35 for like six years! It's an absolute workhorse of a lens for us. Goes on every shoot and has shot simple things like social ads all the way up to national brand campaigns for big brands. Great, GREAT lens.
great video man,,,,, I even made it into the video.. wicked :) ..... i'll be watching your vids on DaVinci.... So far so good with it... I'm really liking it....
There are a couple of options. The most practical solution i use on longer shoots is the use the NPF battery plate from smallrig. I then use that with a npf950 battery. I mount this on the cage. The downside is that, this makes the rig more heavier and back heavy. So you need to ensure you take your time to balance it as best as you can. You can also mount this on the side of the back handle for easier balancing
Thank you so much for the detailed, professionally presented video. This will be so helpful to beginners. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Respect! Now I am eager to check other vids on your channel. :)
This is great. It's the exact setup I was thinking of getting. Question: Can you access the battery compartment and change the battery without taking it off the gimble?
It's easy to replace the batteries however you may have to take it off to do so. There isn't enough clearance for the battery to come out. You don't have to balance the gimbal each time though as long as you only release the small quick release plate and not Manfrotto plate.
I was able to get everything to work EXCEPT for the potion of mounting the follow focus rail on the edge of the manfroto baseplate to give it more forward reach. My included screws aren’t long enough to get a secure connection for some reason. Am I doing something wrong? Are there other screws that I’m supposed to be using?
Hi, loved the video very helpful! My one problem is the focus motor does not seem to reach my lens. I’m using a rokinon cine lens. Do you have any recommendations?
There are a couple of options that can help fix that. Small rig has an longer quick release plate that will help move the focus rod mount out more. If the issue is with the motor height then get the rod adapter from small rig. www.smallrig.com/smallrig-focus-motor-rod-mount-component-for-dji-rs-2-2851.html
After adjusting the first tilt motor and making the camera point straight up, the camera becomes really front heavy and I can't move any other knobs farther to get it to balance forwards without it tipping forwards. I have the same setup you do
Try moving the quick release plate backwards. Also check to make sure the small portion of the quick release plate is mounted on the first 1/4 20 hole from the lens.
very helpful thank yo so much i just ordered my bmpcc 6k pro with sigma 18-35 but I'm not sure if i should buy the rs2 or a little stronger one like the crane 3 did you have any issues while shooting with rs2 or it was handling it without problems ?
The RS2 handles it perfectly well. For me the Crane 3s is bit on the heavy side. You should also look into the moza air 2s I am testing it out now and it seems to be a very good option as well. I still prefer the rs2 over the moza though but it definitely has some advantages.
Super helpful video! I don't know if I got confused but when I tried putting it in the 3rd screw hole following what you said it resulted in my baseplate spinning eventually, which throws the entire camera off but when I put in the center or the opposite end you it instructed I didn't have that issue? Not sure if it was my end or your end but I figured it out in the end...was driving me mad haha
Thank you for this amazing video..This is exactly what I wanted..I have been struggling with setting up the DJI Ronin RS2 with my BMPCC 6K. I have one quick question. What battery solution do you recommend for powering the camera?. I saw another video who mount a hot shoe mount and a Vmount to it. Please advise.
For my handheld or Tripod rig, I use a vmount battery. I have a video coming out soon on a no cage rig. On the gimbal however, I don't use a v mount battery instead I use a Small rig battery plate mounted to the side of the gimbal arm with a npf 970 battery.
Question: What do you think is easier to balance and use on the RS2: The 6k pro with it's normal batteries, or the 6k with a battery rig (since the internal don't last long?). I'm am trying to decide between these two cameras for use with the RS2.
It depends on the way your battery rig is setup. I sometimes use the smallrig npf battery plate attached to the side of the gimbal and it is still easy to balance. With that, I leave the regular battery in the camera and put the bigger npf 970 battery on the side plate. I have a video coming up this week on the moza air 2s. That gimbal maybe a better option for the 6k pro especially for power management.
Nice job, straight forward at a nice pace. I am now ready to try mine tomorrow....thanks man for the superb work. I call you guys that make these videos angels from Heaven....thanks for the blessing at the end....the best part.
Maybe a strange question, but I get this all balanced, turn on the gimbal, and when the rs2 turns on, it rotates automatically to where the camera is facing me.. I haven’t been able to change it unless I do it manually
Informative video! Question: is it necessary to connect the gimbal and/ or raveneye to the camera via USB C, and if so, how do you connect the gimbal and SSD at the same time? I didn't see you connect the gimbal to the camera. I've seen other RU-vidrs with the same setup connect the raveneye to the gimbal and the gimbal to the camera, but they all seem not to use SSDs. Are there any disadvantages of not connecting the gimbal to the camera via USB C?
Connecting the gimbal to the camera via USB will only allow you to start and stop recording from the button on the gimbal to me however you can't use the ssd drive because there is only 1 usb c port. A USB splitter won't work. You can still use the raven eye for monitoring and object tracking without having to connect the USB from the gimbal to the camera. You just have to decide which is more important for your needs. Recording to the ssd or using the USB port for camera control.
do you think the gimbal will be able to hold this along with the new battery grip for the 6k pro as well as a monitor and mic I would I need to mount those one to the gimbal handle? I know it could handle the payload but would it still balance do you think?
The monitor and mic won't be a problem as long as you find a good way to mount them. The grip on the other hand will pose some challenges as it might make the setup back heavy
Thank you. Yes I am able to balance it with the cage now. If you are not using the follow focus motor, it works without needing any extra items. If you have to use the focus motor then you need the smallrig follow focus rod adapter to get it working. See the first 2 links in the description
