Great review/unboxing video!!! Your English is spot on, buddy! I am an Inspire 1 Pro, P4P commercial drone pilot (and a retired Airline Captain) and just purchased the M2P Combo with the SC, after waiting for this combo and convincing myself to add this to my fleet. Keep up the good work. Happy flying!!!
Hello, Ken! Thank you very much for your comment, and sorry for replying so late. Considering the models in your fleet right now, the M2P seems to be the perfect fit for the smaller, more flexible drone option when you need to travel quick and light :) I've literally carried it and the smart remote with me in a fanny pack at this point... not the nicest looking solution, but it's quick and it gets the job done :) Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new drone, and may only clear skies come your way! Happy flying!
Your a natural at making videos, I hope you continue to make many more as you cover all the details in a calm easy to understand manner. You mentioned no protection for the screen, you may want to look at Invisible First Defense. Its a nano glass screen protection and it has an applicator pad which covers the screen with a liquid that bonds to the glass. Very strong protection against scratches and damage. I use it on my phone and its great. Keep up the great work, you sold me on the smart controller and Mavic 2 pro package !
Hello Richard! First of all, thank you very much for your comment. it's always a realy pleasure to read positive reviews of my videos, and thats especially the case if I've somehow managed to bring some helpful info to the forefront. And also, thank you for telling me about the invisible defense coating - I'll definitely look into it, as this seems like a much nicer solution than applying a universal protector, which could lead to reduced viewing angles or unwanted reflectiveness. All the best to you!
Just bought my very first DJI drone. It is the Mavic 2 Zoom with the smart controller. Coming from the Apple universe, the Android-ness presented a bit of a learning curve. I have had the devices for less than a week but I am finding them easy to use. Very happy with the purchase.
Hello there, Mike! Congratulations on picking up your first Drone! It's certainly a very involved hobby that requires some learning and responsibility, but there is so much exhilaration and excitement in every flight! And while there is a learning curve with the drone itself and, additionally, with the Android ecosystem (if using the smart controller) the major benefit is that all your newly acquired knowledge will carry over to any future drones, as control schemes have largely stayed the same over the years, with the drones simply becoming easier to fly. And since you've now gotten accustomed to the Android ecosystem, you might even feel comfortable trying an Android phone in the future - so as not to be tied into one device manufacturer. Anyway, you've made a fantastic decision to take on a really interesting hobby, and I wish you all the best - clear skies and safe returns-to-home in all your future flights!
If my video was beneficial to you in any way, that makes me very happy! I'm sure you'll enjoy the combo, and I hope it will serve you well for years to come!
Wow what a fantastic video. I really enjoyed how you covered the unboxing and your thoughts about each item in detail (even little things like your first impressions of the weight of the controller and drone). Nice and long and detailed. There should be more of this on RU-vid. I absolutely cracked up when you switched to the view outside and there was a giant TV in the back or your car. Cool scenes of Russia too, it would be fun to see more of that. Great work! Subbed!
Hi Marshall! Thank you so much for such a detailed review, I would say, of my video. Comments like yours really help me to understand what parts of my videos are worthwhile and which parts could be made better. Not to mention the fact that it simply feels good to get positive reinforcement 😀 I appreciate your kind words, and thank you for subbing. Wish you all the best!
My wife and i Just bought our first drone. We got the mavic 2 zoom and smart controller. We don't have great cellphone service where we live and have cheep phones so thought the controller would be best. we spend a lot of time in the mountains and one less item to keep charged is a plus. Don't have much experence flying but like the controller very much so far good video. We live in Idaho USA.
That's some amazing english. Russia is training their spies VERY good. That table cloth, wallpaper, and curtains make me think 1970's. Great review. This is literally the only review on all the internet that shows this new mavic 2 pro WITH smart controller unboxing..
Thank you very much for your compliment :) Or should I be concerned? Haha 😁 If I can manage to bring any new info to the table, that makes shooting these videos worthwhile for me! So I greatly appreciate your words of support.
What a great video very professional, I purchased the mavic 2 pro with the flymore kit, then a week later I purchased the smart controller it saves having to fluff around with your phone, remove phone case etc plus it’s very bright in bright sunlight! Once again great video, should have put the 32 inch tv in the boot!!
Thank so much for your kind comment! I'm really glad you thought the video had merit, and am especially happy you enjoyed my presentation! Although everytime I upload these I see more and more things I need to improve upon in the future! I hope you have clear skies and a strong signal with your drone everywhere you go, and that you get the perfect shot everytime :) All the best, NDR.
I am a rookie drone pilot. I just bought the Mavic 2 Pro + the Smart Controller. I don't know what I am doing and I was very impressed with both the drone and the controller. Today was my maiden voyage and I was astonished at how easy and stable the drone was to fly. The controller was very intuitive and ergonomically suited to its task. I bought this combo because it made no sense to me that DJI would come out with something as sophisticated as this controller unless it was going to be the first in a series of new tech combos. Your observations have cemented my feelings. I found your insights based on you KSE (knowledge, skill and experience) quite valuable. I now see opportunities to use the controller in ways that were invisible to me just a few minutes ago. Just curious, are you a native Russian or an American living in Russia? I could not detect any accent. If you are Russian, hands across the world - I just subscribed! I look forward to watching more of your content. Thanks again.
Dear Jim, thank you very much for your incredibly interesting and detailed comment! I think I can speak for all drone pilots everywhere and say "welcome to the club"! It's fantastic that you've decided to take up this hobby (or professional skill, depending on your goals), and I have to admit that I feel quite a bit of secondhand excitement for you! Those feelings you get taking off the first couple of times and seeing your well-known surroundings from a totally new point of view are simply mind-blowing. I hope your M2P serves you very well for years to come! I'm really happy that you enjoyed watching the video, your positive feedback gives me much needed direction for my future content creation! I would like to add, given your comment, that DJI isnt always in the right in all of their product decisions - they do occasionally produce gimmicky or superfluous gear, so being an early adopter doesnt always pay off with them. But, for the most part, they are a fantastic company with top-notch gear. Going forward, if this is your first drone, I would recommend you wait a day or so before updating your M2P firmware when a new release comes out, as during this first day users will tend to flock to DJI forums with any issues that might arise after the update (it's rare, but there have been occasional "half-baked" updates). Other than that, I'm sure you've already gotten very well acquainted with your drone :) Answering your question, yes, I am Russian. And I'm very happy that you found my English to be on par.👍 Thank you for subscribing to my channel , I hope you'll enjoy my future content and I wish you all the best! - NDR
@@DRONEDIRECTOR Thank you (times 2)! I have to admit, its colder than most people would prefer for a good part of the winter, but now that spring has taken over we can finally get out of our fluffy coats and jackets and soak in the sun! Summers in Moscow actually get very hot, as high as 40° celcius on occasion. And southern regions like Sochi are Mediterranean-like in their overall climate conditions.
It's about time I saw a review that wasn't BITCHING about the little things. Your review finally helped me to make the decision to buy one of these bad boys. Despite the initial rocky release of the controller, as an ensemble, (with fixes) the drone and controller are a finely tuned ensemble.
Hi, William! Thank you for your comment - I'm glad you enjoyed watching my honest opinion on the M2P Combo. It's good that there are different opinions out there - after all, we all have different tastes. But I love this kit and have found that the little nuances it does have are easily ignored.
Thank you very much! That's awesome, I can imagine you have some really interesting flights ahead of you with the Enterprise!! I wish you excellent weather and a stable connection as far as the eye can see!!
Thanks a lot! As much as I'm sure you'd enjoy sight seeing in Russia, I have to say that there are a lot a beautiful places near you as well :) Of course it's always better to get around, travel, outside your city, state and country if possible! It's very enriching to see the world.
Thank you foe watching and subscribing as well! My videos aren't all tech related though, and I talk a lot :) As for the controller, it certainly does seem like a necessary counterpart for the Mavic series! I'm happy yours is on the way already, and certainly hope that you get many hundreds of successful flights in with your new combo! Best of luck to you!
i was in Russia 3 weeks ago. It was a wonderful holiday.. 2 hours ago i received the package of DJI Mavic 2Pro Com & Smart Controller(+Goggles). I'm trying to understand things before i open the package and try to be calm :) I would like to know if i have to calibrate the drone before the flight every time? Awesome that you used the giant TV as a monitor,Nice.. Thanks for the video. Subscribed ;)
Hi Kongrit Yamposa! Thanks so much for your comment and for taking the time to watch my video :) I know you're going to have a LOT of fun with your new drone. Realistically, you don't need to calibrate your drone every time you fly. The Dji app should warn you if tue compass encounters and error and needs to be recalibrated. Otherwise, you should be safe to fly as soon as you have ~8+ gps/glonass satellite signals. That being said, if you feel like you're located in an area with a lot of magnetic interference, or if your drone behaves strangely after takeoff (drifting from its position is an example ), it might be a good idea to land quickly, head to a place with less magnetic objects, away from large concrete buildings, cars, and power lines. Then you should recalibrate your compass and try to takeoff again. :) Happy New Year!
Hi, Max! The keyboard on my table is a Razer Turret, it is indeed a combo with the Keyboard itself, built-in mouse pad and mouse. And it has dual bands - you can connect over Bluetooth or 2.4ghz with an included usb dongle. I've been very happy with the way it works with my nVidia Shield in the living room.
Great video I learned a lot about the controller. Wish that I had brought one with my Pro 2 but I had enough problems getting the drone passed my wife haha. Over here in the UK, everything is so much more expensive. Eg $2000 = £2000 Rip Off. By the way that Church is BEAUTIFUL. Good Luck for the future Bob.
Hi Bob :) Blast from the past here - sorry for replying to one of your comments two weeks later! It somehow slipped under my radar. I appreciate you taking the time to watch, and totally understand your situation with the wife, I'm in the same boat over here, haha. If there's one thing I don't quite like about DJI - it's their tendency to "double dip", releasing an expensive new piece of gear, and just a few months later releasing combo kits that are a much better value for the money. I understand them from a business perspective, but not from a customer loyalty perspective! I definitely wouldn't buy the smart controller as a standalone addition to a MP II, just because that would mean overpaying by about 300 dollars! And the pricing scheme you mentioned really is infuriating, I've seen similar thing too many times in different regions with tech manufacturers, that's why it's still so commonplace to import tech that's available locally from other regions, where it's cheaper. It just makes sense financially. All the best to you!
Excellent review!!! I would like to ask a simple question. How do you make the map appear on your secondary screen while flying? The DJI Smart Controller doesn´t have a SIM card to connect to cellular webs. Nobody explains this point which I guess it is a doubt a lot of people may have… By the way, your style presenting the product is very clear for non native English speaking people like me. I will appreciate an answer from you because I recently purchased my Mavic 2 Pro and Smart Controller, so I need to clarify all my doubts before to go outside to start flying… Thanks for your help!!! Best wishes from Lanzarote, Canary Is. Spain.
Dear Vincente, Thank you for your kind comments and for taking the time to watch my video. I'm very happy that you enjoy the style of my videos! Regarding your question about the maps feature in the dji go 4 app on your smart controller, there are several ways to enable your maps when flying. First of all, prior to your flights you can download (cache) a region of the map for the area you're planning to fly in. When open the Dji Go app look for an options or settings tab, where you'll find an "offline maps" section. You have to be connected to wifi for this to work - you can download several regions at once. Secondly, you can connect your controller to a mobile hotspot (from your phone, for example) and download maps as you fly. The last option is an LTE dongle for your controller, which you can plug into the usb-a port near your antennas. Though as far as I understand it this option has not yet been activated by DJI, and will probably be available with a future software update. Muchas gracias a usted por haber visto mi video, espero que disfrute usando su drone, y que lo funcione perfectamente durante cada su vuelo :-) Hasta luego desde Rusia!
Thank you very much for your help! Your advise was very helpful to understand how the smart controller works. By the way: tu español es muy bueno. Muchas gracias por tu ayuda. Hasta pronto!!
@@superflanker37ify Dear Vicente, I'm glad the information I shared came in handy for you! Have you been having fun with your drone? I'm sure you've taken some amazing footage by now 😊 We're finally getting warm, clear weather in Moscow, so my drone is going skyward much more often in these coming weeks! Thanks again for your kind words! Todavia tengo planes de improvechar mi nivel del Español, pero tengo que encontrar, o devotar tiempo libre para estudiarlo)) Me gusta mucho este idioma! Hasta Pronto :')
Sure you could, because it has a slew of sensors for obstacle avoidance and positioning even without gps, but you're still a lot more prone to crashing it this way than when flying it outside.
Normal Day in Russia I gotcha. Another question is.. there is a memory card slot on the Mavic 2 pro and on the smart controller but do you recommend flying and recording with the memory card in the aircraft or in the smart controller?
Sorry for not replying right away. In the initial documentation for the Controller, DJI noted that this USB port could be used with a usb dongle to provide LTE connectivity without a cell phone / wifi connection. This info was scrubbed at release, I'm really not sure if it's been implemented yet though, as I'm very much used to using my mobile hotspot if I need it.
I agree completely. The remote is definitely aimed at consumers, for a multitude of reasons. And as far as drones are concerned, for professional applications the Phantom Series and Inspire Drones are still the way to go. The gimbals on the Mavic series, while great in their own way, are still quite limited in terms of range of motion. So I think DJI is very intently pushing this entire product line into the "premium" consumer segment.
Hi Dave! Thank you for your comment, and for taking the time to watch my video. Most of my commentary still stands - The fact that you can pull the controller and drone out of your bag and be airborne in under a minute is mind blowing, and the brightness on the Smart controller is a huge plus compared to any cell phone. If I had to nitpick and find an issue... Maybe size? The thing is that the Mavic 2 Pro is quite small when you fold it down, making its footprint smaller than the controller. So the smart controller doubles the amount of space you need to carry your gear. This isn't an issue for me, but might be a limiting factor depending on your application and use-case.
Normal Day in Russia hey thanks for responding... just one more question do you find the smart controller range not as good as the controller that comes with the drone?
@@DRobertson725 I'm happy to answer, hopefully with some useful info :) I believe that the range is identical to the stock controller. If anything, it might even be a bit better, perhaps because the large body of the controller might reflect a bit more of the wifi signal back at the antennas? The hardware is the same, so there won't be a big difference either way. Btw, I'm buying the Mavic Mini tomorrow and will have a review up in a few days, so check back if you're interested in hearing my two thoughts 😊
I've actually answered this in detail in another comment, but the basics are 1.)Out of the box auto settings 2.)No real shutter priority mode that I was used to on Sony cams 3.)Improper balance of camera on crane 3 on one axis 4.)My inability to ninja walk :) My new footage, shot in all manual with proper frame rates and shutter speeds, and proper use of the gimbal has resulted in great footage. This example take was literally my out of the box experience, with no real prior preparation.
That's one of those things that irks me about DJI, stock issues. The same thing has been bothering me about OSMO pocket accessories. Here in Russia at least some of the accessory combo kits have been available since launch, but buying any of them separately has been near impossible.
In light snow, sure! Most people don't have any problems. If you get really heavy snowfall though, flying becomes a problem, as the snow cuts down on your reception dramatically (and you get a higher risk of water ingress and subsequent corrosion to the engines, battery, and drone internals).
While I appreciate the time it took to creeate this presentation it would have been incredibly nice to see the activation procedure. I could have done without seeing the machine coming out of the boxes if video time was a concern.
Dear Tim, thanks for watching the video! Don't worry about the activation procedure. It's super straightforward - you just need to make a Dji account, same procedure as on any other website - email, password, etc. And pick a name for your drone. It takes maybe 30 seconds to activate!
Only one question is that really your car,!! Range rover, I feel there is a very rich element to this video, aside from the huge TV??? in the back of it.!
Hi Simon, thanks for watching till the end :) The whole tv in a Range rover was kind of an easter egg, to make the video less boring for those that decided to watch the whole thing :))) Yes, it is my car, it's not a very new vehicle at this point, (I have another video where I review it after 100k km.) but I plan on driving it until it falls apart :) 5 years later I still wouldn't change it for any other vehicle, haha.
I was about to lose it, as after updating the firmware on both the Smart Controller and the Mavic 2 Pro, entering my details and pressing the activation button it just stated I needed to be connected to the net and to check my connection. Of course I'm on the bloody net, I just sorted the firmware out and all the apps work. After about 10 attempts it just activated. Go figure. My thoughts are if DJI's server can't handle the number of activations, don't pretend it's a user end problem.
Yeah, DJIs activation process can sometimes be a major hassle :/ I remember a while back with one of my previous drones, I just couldn't get it to activate no matter how many times I restarted everything and reconnected to my wifi. It kept telling me to check my connection. In the end the issue turned out to be that I used an underscore or number (don't remember) in my drones name, which wasnt allowed. Though this info wasn't mentioned anywhere in the manual or in-app. Go figure 😂
Now are you still in high school ? (some people say I am a reactionary (rude person from the USA) thanks for your thoughts I am thinking of replacing my Phantom 3 with one of these, not too happy that DJI doesn't sell Phantom 3 batteries anymore ...
Hi Biggus Bestus :) No, sadly I'm not in high school anymore, not for 15 years 😅 As far as upgrading your drone, it does come down to how happy you are with your footage and how much you need a smaller footprint on a drone. For me, professionally, the Phantom 4 pro plus was still the best drone I've ever flown, the 4k60p is a head above the 4k30 the mavic pro 2 pumps out. That being said, the portability, ergonomics and quick-launch capability of the mp2 with the smart controller are unparalleled - so this drone is fantastic for personal use. However, if you're fine with the picture coming out of your p3, just buy 3rd party batteries. Dont upgrade because DJI is trying to force you to) I would only upgrade for either the 4k60 on the p4p, or for the portability of the mp2.
Thanks for watching the whole thing :) Sorry to have "droned" on so much 😂 Believe it or not, the Smart controller actually works better than the tv simply because its much brighter :)
Hi Mark! Thanks very much :) The track playing during the drone shots is "Warm Dreamy Lounge" by NWJoke. The closing song is pretty much an audioloop for content creation, specifically for vlogs. Both are audiojungle compositions.
Your a very good advice I really like your videos and the way you explain . I wish you the very best in your futur and please I never get shouted out in my favorite youtubers videos so please can you shout me out ill really enjoy
