In this video I show how to build a gas can filling station for RC Gas Planes. I make the refueling station using a Midwest 1 gallon gas can, Dubro EZ Fill fitting, Dubro Tygon Gas fuel line, CM Products gas can cap, and a Hangar 9 Ultra Pump for gas fuel. The gas can will require a little modification by easily removing the inner filter and replacing the nozzle assembly with a simple gas cap. The gas cap is drilled out using 1/2 drill bit and the Dubro EZ Fill is inserted, from there it's just a matter of connecting the Tygon tubing to the various parts: it's all pretty easy.
All of these videos will be placed on a playlist.
I am not giving up glow engines, I'm just adding RC gas powered engines to my lineup.
So if you have been interested in running gas rc plane engines, maybe you can learn with me and this series may be helpful. If you are experienced running rc gas engines, then maybe this series will be a little interesting or entertaining, and maybe you can give us novices some pointers!
I have been building, flying, crashing, modifying, and repairing radio control planes (RC Planes) for many years and enjoy sharing what I do with the radio control plane community, so I started RC Plane Tech channel for fun. I am not an expert, there are many different techniques to building radio control planes. A good way to learn about flying and building rc planes is to see what others are doing, that's what I do and that's why I like to share what I do. Thanks for watching my channel. Have fun!

Can't describe how your videos are informative and interesting with no short cuts suitable for someone like me who wants to learn about gas/glow and balsa building realm. Before watching it I was into foam model only even if large scale (and still) but why not a couple of gas models in the fleet. Great that you show the products used in your videos which add alot to the learning process. Thank alot

Thank you so much. I appreciate your feedback. Thats great that you are trying other type of setups. They are all fun and they all have pluses and minuses. But overall, meant to have fun

On Thingiverse you can find a small Box, which fits perfectly to your pump. I use the same same pump for my gasoline helicopter. Works very fine.😁Greetings from Germany

That DLE looks very well made. Have they always been like that? I had a couple of DLEs, a 30 and a 35 and the machining wasn't so nice. The engines were very good though. Thanks for the video!

Hi, the DLE are new to me, not sure how they were made in the past. This one looks pretty good. I know they are popular and have a good reputation. I think its a good quality engine, we’ll see how it runs, hope to get to that soon.

Awhile back they weren't quite as externally polished but I've owned 111, 55RA, 55, 35RA, 20RA, as well as Desert Aircraft, always ran reliably, more a measure of my knowledge and less their quality. For price and performance, DLE is a reliable great performing engine.

You could have for safety’s sake, fitted the cap to the can. As the can is dry it would have emptied of bits easily and your fingers would have been much safer. Just a thought 😊

Thats a good idea! I didn’t think of that!

Hello James, I am Jay. I am guessing that you already changed it, but in this video, it looks like you put the fuel lines on backwards for the way that you were turning the fuel pump (clockwise). You would be taking the fuel out of the plane into the gas can, if you left it like that. Just a thought.

@JamesRCPlaneTech 19 дней назад
Hi Jay, I don’t think I checked which it was turning it when set up. I know it can go either way. I think I usually set them to fill clockwise and empty counter clockwise?

@rcflyernc2001 19 дней назад
@@JamesRCPlaneTech Yeah, you were fueling by turning the pump handle CCW. I noticed because I also go clockwise to fuel and CCW to defuel.

If you don’t like the smell of gasoline, you can use white gas also call camping fuel. The type that is used in those camp stoves that have the red tank and you pump the tank up too pressure. Also called Colman fuel. That is what I use because it’s pretty much Odourless. It’s more expensive, but at least I don’t get complaints about stinky four stoke gasoline smell on me when I go in the house. You mix it with the oil the exact same as gasoline. It also smells nice as it burns.
@JamesRCPlaneTech
@JamesRCPlaneTech Год назад
That’s interesting, Im familiar with camping fuel. Probably burns cleaner also.
@RC-Flight

@@JamesRCPlaneTech yes it burns cleaner and smells like cooking popcorn on a camp stove! Only draw back is the cost, but it sure beats getting yelled at for having stinky gasoline smelling cloths. I can even work on my fuel system in the house!

In Australia 2-stroke gas cans are green, straight gas is red, diesel is yellow etc…small issue :) great series

Hey James ..I'm Larry and I'm also new to gas ..I have a question...what battery do I use foe my ignition setup ..please help .Thanks .can you do a series on the entire setup in the plane .?

Hi Larry, Ill check, I think the manual has it. I’m planning on doing a set the DLE for sure on a test stand, but it will be a while before I do it on a plane because I dont have a plane for this engine yet. But the test stand will be similar

cool,... just a FYI ,...check out the ethanol free fuel available in your area, also at every local airport as a 100 LL i believe its called, it doesnt soak up the humidity but it is a bit of a chore im in the middle of nowhere and can go to airport but 4 out of the 5 gas stations dont actually carry ethanol free even tho advertized online as they have it available good luck Mike
@lleston8927
@lleston8927 Год назад
I used to fly with ethanol free and realized the engines liked the 10% ethanol better.

Hello guy's, I have had a few DLE Engines, and the manual actually says to use 87 octane gas, and not ethanol. Also, you should NEVER use 100LL (Avgas) in RC engines.

I got into gasoline engines last year, have a couple of 30cc,😊 a 40cc and three 50cc engine on various airplanes. Most of my other planes are four stroke glow engines and several electric. I personally find the electric to be too short a flight range and boring for my preferences.
@JamesRCPlaneTech
@JamesRCPlaneTech Год назад
Nice. I will be moved more to gas in the future as well. But I do love the Saitos. I agree, electric is not for me at the moment. I see the pluses and minuses to both, but I like not having to charge between flights and like plane that cam idle…

@RC-Flight Год назад
@@JamesRCPlaneTech yes Saito is my favourite for four stoke glow and it so nice to be able to fly for 15-20 minutes land refuel and back in the air in less then five minutes.
