@TheMrCaptainStfu and why not? if he can unrack it, he can rack it, provided he can push it up all the way again, which he clearly did. all that was missing was 2 footsteps forward
For anyone who has ever done squats they will appreciate just how much strength was required to do this. Add the pause as well and it really is just so impressive.
@goggles789 Well I guess I would agree with most of those since not having blocks kinda sucks and there's only a few barbells with wide knurling, but I am fully self-taught at a 24 hour fitness and doing just fine.
vegan strength JY I know i rewound the video to the start of the rep and watched it over 4 times - and I’m not even that serious about weightlifting (meaning that; despite this, I was still able to seriously appreciate the finesse on that lift).
Jay Nera I respect powerlifting in general, but unfortunately, I see a lot of powerlifters performing insanely wide squats that barely touch parallel. I believe that movements should be complete as demonstrated in the video.
***** Nobody's handing out bonus points to footballers who score from center or PLers who squat to the grass or to Oly lifters who power-clean or -snatch. Oly lifters don't have to hit any particular depth - they train this way so they can catch their cleans and snatches as low as possible. They train this depth to _make their lifts easier within the rules of their discipline_. Many powerlifters will train deep squats, paused squats, deficit deadlifts. But on the platform powerlifters squat only to the depth outlined in their rulebook - because (like Oly lifters) that gives them the heaviest possible lift. *Any passed high squats are the fault of the judges and the federations* who make a habit of letting lifters get away with high squats.
Oly lifters squat to improve their Clean & Snatch, so it makes sense to go all the way down. Powerlifters squat to put a big number on the board so it makes sense to go as shallow as you can get away with. It really is apples and oranges. Pause full squats are incredibly difficult and awesome to watch for those that know what they feel like.
From 1965 the UK embarked upon a programme of metrication and gradually introduced metric units, including the tonne (metric ton), a non-SI metric unit defined as 1000 kg. So in the rest of the world a tonne, or a metric ton equals to 2200 lbs.
People that comment and say "its bad for the knees to go that low." No its not.....Please keep the stupidity to a minimum. If you do it correctly and go off the heels, going that low is fine. People that have knee problems probably squat and come up with the balls of their feet which is INSANELY wrong.
***** Human body adapts, a regular guy won't show up at a gym and front squat 250kg. Lifting that kind of weight is lifetime goal for some people. However, i lack the necessary knowledge of anatomy to comprehend and maybe counter what you said. I will get back to you.
***** Doesnt it depend on the maximimum stress your knee can handle? Just because the stress in the knee is higher, it doesnt mean the stress is too high. Lets say he was on steroids and he would backsquat 500kg to parallel. You said thats always safe. If that is safe, i would say frontsquatting 250kg ass to grass is safe to. Because i doubt that the stress in the knee doubles when you go from parallel backsquats to ass to grass front squats. Besides that, we normal people usually dont come close to 250 kg. I am at 125. So even if people like me did ass to grass back squats, the limit shouldnt be reached.
***** I guess as an engineering student, my approach is more mechanical. So i can say that strain and stress go hand in hand. Nevertheless, as you said its all theory. I would say you should listen to your body. And as long as you feel smooth and dont have pain, it should be OK.
What gets me every time is he just sits at the bottom for like 5 second before going back up and making it seem like nothing. This guy has quads of steel. 10/10. would watch again.
How are you not impressed that is an incredible amount of weight even for a back squat let alone a front squat and what the fuck do you mean what he demonstrated wasn't muscular strength you tell me what you think moved a quarter of a ton from point A to B and this is fucking KLOKOV a Olympic weightlifter who doesn't need your fucking constructive criticism.
Oh my God, a video of one of the most awesome squats has descended into an argument over whether you can have a 'table tennis table' or not! Sort it out!
Actually, the more vertical torso position of the front squat tends to send the knees more forward than a back squat. However, with proper form that correctly engages the hamstrings it's not a problem. Squats are actually healthy for the knees so long as they are done with proper form and a full ROM, as they bring the muscles attached to the knees into balance.
What's noteworthy is he and his like never experience the lower back dip that people actually defend on social media these days as being "harmless". Weightlifters spend a lot of time working on their upper back flexibility to ensure their entire torso is as straight and upright as possible. You can learn a lot from them.
Not one comment about the insane wrist mobility. He is basically holding the bar with his hands, instead of using his fingers to keep the bar on his front delts. Dat Russian knowledge/power
It's actually pretty common in weightlifting and helps to keep elbows up/posterior chain upright. It's harder to hold the bar like this but getting used to it is absolutely worth it.
The mobility is actually not in the wrist itself, the mobility lies within the shoulder, length of the triceps and latissimus dorsi tendons are the most limiting factors to overcome while working on a front rack position like this
I agree with what you said - I suppose I worded my first response poorly. The tension I am describing is that which is experienced squatting "parallel," or stopping a rep short of ass to grass. Descending and getting in the "hole," versus descending and coming to a halt at 90 degrees seems that there would be less tension put on the knees to stop that weight mid-descent, rather than descending to your natural hole, and rebounding up for the second half of the lift.
Coming from a fellow weightlifter Dmitry, your 100kg behind the head shoulder press is much more impressive to me, some serious strength there brother, good luck with upcoming comps, hope to see you in the Olympics soon.
i only refer to them this way when im talking about limb length. typically i would typically only call shoulder press or bench etc pushing movement. but technically quads are also pushing muscles and hamstrings pulling ones. although rare i use this terminology
This is my kind of gym!! There's not one like this around my area (Edmonton, London) so I joined Fitness First and while I don't mind it I kinda feel outta place...most guys reading and/or doing routines from Mens Health (and there I am with a book from Dan Austin) So cannot wait till March when contract expires so i join a decent gym!! Great Front Squat btw!!
In addition to what people said about it being more efficient to catch a clean this low, a deep squat is also not only the full range of motion, it is better on your knees than a parallel squat.
If that were the case it would be even on each side. There are a few bars at my gym that look like this. It's just the finish has kind of flaked off much like paint does on a wall when you scrape it. It doesn't seem to happen to all bars but it's not that rare either in a high use gym. Glad to clarify!
My growth plate got torn out of my knee the other playing a sport I don't even like and watching this makes me feel like crying because I will most likely never be able to squat like this again.
When you have the bar positioned low bar, body mechanics are what make it dangerous to go further than hip joint below knee joint. If the hips go below the knee that's a full low-bar squat, which is different to the depth achieved in a full high-bar/front squat.
Too many people have too much to say on these comments about how it's "supposed" to be done! People have different ways of doing everything in the world,no right or wrong way! Aslong as people are exercising trying to make themselves fitter or stronger whatever they're goal is,they're doing it right!!!
