This is my favorite song of all time as DMX is my favorite rapper of all time. I listened to this song constantly to understand where DMX came from with his raw energy and aggression in all he does. This was great storytelling in a song to cherish.

The cool concept about this song is that everybody has been where this song has been. And you could actually be in that position now where you are slipping and you're falling and you can't get up. This song let you know that you can't give up, you got to get up and you have to get back on your feet so you can tear it up. And this song to me is one of the greatest songs of DMX has ever done. Everybody has been through this stage in their lives and if they haven't there about to go through the stage. And if he can get up then all of us can. And if you're reading this and this touches your soul, this message is for you. You may be slipping , you may be falling but you can get up.

I’m so glad that you got the point to this song. Right off the get go with they first line. To live is to suffer but to survive is to define meaning into suffering. Slippin is my all time favorite DMX song. His vulnerability, word play and story telling made him unique and legend. FYI Ruff Ryder’s Anthem was his least favorite song. He did cause he lost bet and wrote it in 15 min. As he said it was elementary for him. His word play and his rap skills are a lot deeper than that.

Man, this song gives me goosebumps all over - every time!! And this was one of my very first Hip-Hop albums that I bought back in the 90s. DMX for Hip-Hop Hall of Fame!!

Decent track, here... I will say this one thing, front to back - DMX's album "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" is *_still_* the most gangster-ass album I've ever heard in my life! *_TRUST !!_*

Clean version was all that was officially released, even on the explicit cd. Dj Shok (RuffRyders) produced it, and sampled Moonstreams, by Grover Washington Jr. Owners to rights of Moonstreams only approved use if it was a clean song. Later on some dirty versions were leaked. Some without the female vocals. There is one version that has all the words including, damn look how the rock got em. And one that has rock blanked out.

Here today 2024. this still hits. Great review!

Defending the best beeping idea DMX had, sometimes it’s that smooth the cancellation of the swearing that I thought it was meant to be this way, then I hear the actual explicit version and realise it, done beautifully in all his songs

In my early recovery from my drug addiction this song helped me....literally helped me not relapse. Form the interviews I've seen with DMX he says this song is about his crack addition. When u are in active addiction u have mental breakdowns those 2 things always go together. Thats why u have to take care of your mental health in order to stay clean& sober. DMX is a poet
