Really find your vids helpful mate with the prices and clear talk through while you install parts. It gives me confidence to do my own work knowing you probably have a tutorial already. keep it up legend.
I have the same bike, but I turned my factory bars towards the front of the bike a bit. I want to get ape hangers as I had 16 1/2 inch apes on my Dyna wide glide and loved my hand positioning. I found it was very comfortable for me. Those bare look good. Thanks for the video bro. Be safe out there !
Installed DNA 12 inch bars finally. Didn't unpin connections lube an sent them thru . Bike lit up with no gremlins. What a difference the DNA bars make. Thank you for you help.
I do like the new bars, they look really good. I am more of a T-bar person myself, as I ride with the Lucky Dave's Lucky 13 bars. I found that out after going with a tall Z-bar initially, but there just wasn't enough pull back for me even with adjusting the bars by loosening clamp like yours and it put me into a weird forward leaning position that hurt my back. So a T-bar with a pullback to it was super comfortable to me. But as long as you like the new bars and they are comfortable for you that's all that really matters.
So all you need to install these is some wiring extensions for the controls and signals? Stock clutch cable and brake cable work? Also it seems that the bars taper for the stock controls as well, just making sure this works because I"m looking for a simple way to do a bar change out! Looks dope btw!
Huge improvement over the last bars. Great work. You're quickly becoming my first point of reference for everything Street Bob! Also, please start wearing gloves! My OH&S OCD is going crazy! 😁😁😁
Thanks man 👍 yep I agree, I've really gotta start wacking on some gloves. I want to buy some mx gloves as it's hard to turn the gopro on and off with winter gloves on.
Man... I'm on the look out for new bars. Torn between apes or t-bars. I know apes are more comfy but the t-bars look nice on the street bob. Tough decision.
Bloody hell man, I'm just not getting regular notifications of messages. I saw you went with the Denniskirk bars, they look the goods man 👍 Sorry for the late reply brother.
Aha so these are the ones you finally got, wow very nice bars (in my opinion they are way better looking than the other bars). Keep up those great videos 👍
They look great bro, I was watching your earlier video where you had the risers and drag bars and I was thinking of heading down that road. I currently have 14” fused apes and they’re a little uncomfortable on longer rides. But I love this look a lot more. I think the 12” bars will give me that perfect riding position. Love your videos bro
I’ve been looking at ordering these. On the website they have a version that says (WIDE) what version did you go for ? I know yours are wider than our stock FXBB and worried about ordering the (WIDE) and them being to wide. If you could let me know what you picked I’d really appreciate it 😃
When switching handlebars from 16" to a lower hight. Where do you think the limit is before you have to change the cables to shorter ones. Do you think I can switch to let say 12-14" without changing the length of the cables and wires?
I believe the longer cables on your 16 inch bars would be fine for say 14 inch risers. I think the cables would also work with the 12 inch risers but they would look a bit odd.
Looks sick mate, i get my 2020 Street bob in a few weeks.. Was thinking about the same bars for mine Your set up now looks awesome don't change it haha 🤟👍
Any thoughts on reupholstering stock saddle with a grippier fabric. Saddle has no torsion support on take offs. My Le Pera kick flip locks me in saddle. Thanks for your time
I've thought about reupholstering the stock seat but will probably go with a solo seat which is more comfortable. Particularly on long rides so I'll probably go with the mustang wide tripper seat.
Bike looks and sounds great !!! New bars look good without the windshield. I love that you do your own work on your own bike. My street bob is pretty stock, but Im definitely looking for new suspension because after 4-6 hours ride the stock monoshitt is like a brick. Would love to see your opinion on suspension selection process and installation. Much love from California , keep putting miles on it !!!
Thanks mate, I weigh 80 kgs and had my suspension set to suit my weight as per the manual. I personally didn't find any issues with comfort but it certainly could be the case if you weigh more then me and havn't adjusted the suspension per the manual.
Very nice !im looking for bars to replace the stock mini apes on my fxbb 2020. Would the 12 inch be higher than the stock mini apes ? I’m a bit afraid to go to the 14in , even tho I’m nearly 6’4 I have an Arlen ness fairing and do not want to have a very risen arms position. I’m looking for something slightly higher than stock mini apes that I could also bring a bit backwards as my seat from whiplash seats me a couple of inches back on the bike
These bars sit 1 inch higher than the stock bars. If you went any higher than 13 inches depending on the width of your bars you would need to extend your clutch line and the wiring to your controls. I don't think 14 inch bars would be too high for a person of your height.
Hi mate, hope all good. The apehanger looks a lot better than the T-bar. But still prefer my Hollywood bar 😁. Today I’ll get my stage 2 installed 😎. Cheers mate.
Great to see you again, for me chunky apes that aren’t too tall are what the FXBB is all about, standard mini apes are awful but once changed and a nice 2-1 TBR its great, yes I have the same set up however I am the most critical of my own efforts so if I can honestly say they work and look great I mean it....I just need the cam now 😉
Hey mate, love the bars, after the same for my ‘19 bob but having a lot of trouble finding them. Cannot find any that reduce down to 1” for the stock riser
Yeah I havnt seen them advertised on eBay to suit the street bob since buying them. You can install larger risers if your having trouble finding bars. You could go with the HD risers which suit bars that don't taper down to 1 inch. Check out these risers, www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/shop/Handlebar-Riser-and-Clamp-Kit/p/55900194 I know they are based in the US but just search the part number in Google and they will pop up 👍 Obviously They won't fit your stock bars
Hey man, I bought these bars for my 2017 - 48. I bought a wiring kit from LA choppers on Revzilla for 12 inch bars. All of the cabling fits well except for the throttle cables. There is a bit of slack in the cables and it allows some play in the throttle grip. Do you have your controls mounted on the beveled part of the bars at all? I'm wondering if I move my controls in a bit, that it will tighten up the throttle cables a bit. Thanks
I have my controls mounted before the bars start to bevel out. I didn't notice any change in the play on my throttle by wire for the street bob. Does the 48 have throttle by wire or cable?
Thanks for your vids, very helpful. Ordered the same bars as seen on your channel. What pre fab wireing do I need ? Do I need to change out bushings since bars are heavy compared to sad stock bars? Your response would be gladly appreciative. Later buddy.
Yes you will need heavier duty bushings. I purchased the polyurethane ones from lucky Dave's and also purchase a wiring extension kit for the control wires 👍
I loved the bars, I had them on the bike for around 12 months before selling the bike and had no issues. I Have read forums from others that did have bad experiences though. Poor paint quality, bars not aligned 100% but I never had those issues.
Were you able to still use the factory switch box? Was there enough room for everything with the tapering or did you have to switch anything around? I'm wanting these bars in 16" and curious about any difficulties I might run into? Thank you for your help!
Yes factory switches work. Only thing I changed was the wiring extensions. My cables were fine. However If you went with 16s you wpuld need to get longer wiring extensions and a longer break and clutch cable
Mate I havnt had a look at the extension kits but 12 inch apes are at the max limit. An 8 inch extension may be a bit long is there a 6 inch extension?
Love the look. You used stock cables for the brake and clutch cables, then what did you buy the extensions for? What other stuff needed to be extended?
I had to purchase wiring extensions for the internal wiring in the bars. The cables work fine however the wiring for the hand controls arnt long enough
Hi mate , could you please let me know the length of the hand control area on the bars, I want to put it on a Honda Shadow and some people say it will fit and some people say it won't, and I don't know why !!
I no longer have the bike but the measurements are 1 ½” in diameter diameter, they taper down to 1" where the bars mount in the risers. The bars are 35” wide from the left hand controls to the right and the bottom width is 11 inches.
Now go back to a solo seat, put on a 21" front wheel, air ride slam the rear & 2 into 2 exhaust. Gonna miss your club, there was so much more you could've done. But hey, thats whats so cool about HD, its ez to change flavors if you like. Keep up the good vids mate.
Man you beat me to the punch !!! I just ordered these 2 days ago! Hahah man they look so good im happy I got these over t bars. Looks going to go perfect with my 124 build. If you don't mind me asking what wires dod you have to extend? Do you have a link to the wires you ordered ?
Here's the link to the extensions I purchased. I didn't need to lengthen the throttle by wire or the indicator wiring. www.easyr.com.au/namz-harness-h-bar-ext-8-s-tail11up-dyna12up-flh14
Hey man, I’m 5’ 9” and can’t decide between the 12 or 14. My goal is to sit more straight up vs hunched over like I currently am stock. You are the same height but did the 12’s give you a better straight up riding position? I feel like if I do 14’s and roll them back towards me it will achieve a better sitting position but you rocking 12’s has me thinking I should do the same now. Let me know!
All depends on your reach. I know people who are my height however have a much shorter reach. Personally I wouldn't go any higher than 12 inches as the bar clamps sit the bars another inch higher. I sit upright with these bars
I purchased the 8 inch wiring extension kit from easy r Australia. Here's a link www.easyr.com.au/custom-dynamics-cd-cdbarext1-handlebar-wiring-harn I didn't need to extend the indicator wires or throttle by wire
I sold my bike about a year ago. I had them on the bike for around a year and didn't find any issues with quality. I was riding on pretty rough country roads with massive pot holes too and they didn't crack or bend anywhere. I didn't however have them on the bike for years and years so I can't really give a review on longevity.
nice bars! Great video. tip: you sould not have to go over the grips to use your clutch or brake. It is recommended you do an ergo adjustment and rotate your controls slightly more around the bars towards you. In an emergency situation, every millisecond counts.
Yes i had to depin the wiring to the right hand controls. It was a time consuming job. I took photos of where the wires went into the plug so I didnt incorrectly reinstall them.
It's a time consuming job, I had to depin several of the wiring connectors for the wiring to fit through the bars. Be sure to take plenty of pics of where the wires go into the clips before removing them.
Great video as usual! Now that you have had these for a while are you still happy with the 12” rise? I’m in the process of shopping for apes, looking at the 2” Burleigh highballs for my 2019 Fatboy. I’m around 5’9 with riding shoes on so I’m wondering if 12 or 14 would be better. I also don’t want them above my shoulders. Thanks
Mate 12 inches is perfect for my height of 5'9" I feel 14 inches would be too tall and tricky to manouver when at slow rolling speed but that's just my opinion.
Love the look of the bars mate, I’ve been undecided on my fxbb on thrashing supply mid MX bars & 6 inch risers or these DNA apes, think u might have convinced me 👍 are they much wider & taller than the stock mini apes? I’m only 5ft8 so don’t want anything too much more of a stretch than stock. Just fitted up leather pros bags on mine & run a Memphis shades del rio sport shield for longer rides, just waiting on my 19l softail slim tank to arrive & she’s all set for some big trips. Keep up the good work mate 👍🏍👍🏍
Thanks Chris. These bars are 3 inches wider than the stock mini apes and are 13 inches in rise with the stock risers. I love these bars man, would recommend them although it was annoying having to depin the wiring on the throttle side to run them through the bars.
Man I love your bike! Slowly making my way through the list! I’m so stuck on which bars to get pushing towards these sort of bars I reckon! Keep it up man love watching your videos! Should do some group ride vlogs!?
Mate, looking at these bars for my 2018 Sport Glide.Just can’t seem to match them to my bike.. Can you share some more info about your handle bar clamp size please.
Thanks for your quick reply.I am worried about the width difference of your clamp, between the riser centres, not so much the circumference of the handle bars..Thanks for being real mate..
No mate I've ditched the fairing, ended up selling it the other day. I'm running led undermount indicators so I didn't need to purchase the ball receptical for the stock indicator to flip the mirrors.
Looks like i got first place in the comment section. To be honest i prefer the look of the club style more. You are totaly right when it comes to adjustability. You have to be a "Lucky Bastard" ;-) to get it just right in one go when you set on a taste you prefer in styles of build. So many people and so many taste, luckily. I never want low or drag bars on any bike ever again comfortwise. Just my two cents. Stay safe and play nice Y"all.
Cool bars, your bike looks much better now. Only thing i don’t like is the underslung mirrors, I hate bikes with these, would look miles better with some small billet mirrors on short stems.
