This video provides a tutorial on DNA replication. DNA replication occurs in three stages, initiation, elongation and termination. DNA replication is initiated by recognising the site of origin of replication. Helicase enzyme unwinds the DNA strand by breaking hydrogen bonds and new DNA strand is synthesized with the help of enzyme DNA polymerase. Two new DNA strands are synthesized, and they are called as leading/continuous and lagging/discontinuous strand. Discontinuous strand has okazaki fragments which are then sealed with the help of DNA ligase enzyme.
The following topics are covered in this lesson,
1. Role of DNA polymerase in synthesizing new strands
2. Different forms of DNA polymerase enzymes
3. Role of RNA primer in DNA replication
4. How do DNA polymerase excise RNA primer and proofread the nucleotide sequence?
4. What are Okazaki fragments?
5. How does DNA ligase enzyme function?
