13:27 Umm excuse us, The Philosopher’s Stone was actually the original title 🙈😅 (it’s a British book) so…why did the Americans have to be so awkward and change one word in the title??
@doclewis8927
@doclewis8927 3 месяца назад
Book publishers thought that Americans would be too stupid to figure out what a "philosopher's stone" was but if you were a "GenXer, like myself" then you would've heard it in your chemistry class. I have zero idea why they thought that kids couldn't figure it out given the context of the book and everything. Sometimes, it amazes me how little credit is given to kids and their ability to comprehend something, especially when it's given context around it.

truth, and besides, The Philosopher's Stone is a legend based in alchemic lore from CENTURIES ago. I mean...Dumbledore straight up talks about his friend NICHOLAS FLEMEL. (Any FMA fans should have already that connection.)

Naming it The Philosophers Stone was not to be ‘extra’ it was an actual historical name from alchemist lore. It was Americans that changed it to Sorcerer to dumb it down and sound more ‘Disney’ And I’m pretty sure it’s only America that call it sorcerer. All books and movies everywhere else is Philosopher’s.

Philosophers Stone is not the "British version" of the book/movie. Sorcerer's Stone is the American version. They changed it to "Sorcerer's Stone" for the Americans because they thought they wouldn't understand.

The fact that America couldn't grasp the word Philosopher and it had to be changed to Sorcerer is hilarious. I was 13 in 1997, and went to see Titanic with my parents (I'm a huge history buff & was obsessed with Leo.) i remember leaving the cinema sobbing uncontrollably. I still believe there was enough room on the door for both Jack & Rose. And Benison totally deserved a point for writing 'cult'

Americans' understanding of a philosopher is way different from the way the Brits use it. A child reading the series in the 90s in America wasn't going to get that a British philosopher was more like an alchemist or something. I'm guessing not that many Americans know even as adults. People really didn't get the Seinfeld ending. I loved it because I knew the intention behind it: 1) It made sense for the characters, because for 9 seasons, they were the most callous, shallow, horrible people ever. So them going to jail when everybody they were unkind to came to testify against them is. just perfect. 2) Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld always said when the show ended they wanted to go out with a huge bomb, like the most anticlimatic ending ever. They even had a post credit scene with Jerry doing stand up in prison and getting booed off stage. 3) Finally, the genius of the episode was that it took all the theories fans were making about how it would end (And mind you, this was before social media, which is impressive) and they teased all of the major theories in the episode, while not fulfilling any of them. It wasn't a good episode of Seinfeld, but it was the perfect ending for Seinfeld.

I guess it's because I was 17 and didn't really have any friends who watched Seinfeld, but I never realized it was so hated. I liked it when I saw it. Their trial was my favorite part because of that.

What people don't get about the Seinfeld ending (the very end, not the rest) is that they're ending on the same conversation between George and Jerry that they started with. Literally nothing has changed, they haven't grown at all, and they've learned nothing - and that's because they were nothing but self-serving garbage for the entire run of the show.. It literally could not have ended any other way and made sense. Were they supposed to do all that and then find love and happiness and success? Hell no. The cycle begins again.

harry potter was called the sorcerers stone in America because the publishers in America thought that philosopher's stone didn't sound exciting and magical enough to appeal to American kids, also they were concerned that kids wouldn't know what philosopher meant to the point they even shot the scenes in the movies twice using sorcerer's stone in one take and Philosopher's stone in the other just so American kids didn't get confused between the movie and the book. A lot of streaming sites use the American title for movies so it can confuse people in the UK and Australia when the title is different to what they know/remember. kind of funny as "The Philosopher's Stone" is supposed to be a legendary item from Alchemy that could essentially make something from nothing or turn lead to gold or make the elixir of life that made its drinker immortal, and it existed in fantasy and fiction stories long before Harry Potter was even a passing thought in J.K Rowling's head.

Honestly, discovering Hanson was a huge moment for me. I saw them in my Seventeen (or maybe Teen People) magazine as an up and coming band to check out I finally saw their Mmmbop video on MTV and was hooked. I was finishing my 8th grade year and getting ready to be a high schooler. So many changes have gone on in my life but Hanson has remained a constant. I'm a big fan to this day!

Frasier was a unique show in the way it took regular television formula for sitcoms but used high society as their punchline. Seinfelds finale was awesome with the zoom out, like ooh we got jail time, like they knew that they probably deserved it in a way 😂😂

Excuse you Nick but the British were not being ridiculous as you so eloquently put it, the original title of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was changed for the U.S. audience. I'm American and I was offended, not cool dude

@mistressthorn
@mistressthorn 4 месяца назад
@@burgermike92 It's called having an opinion. What offends me might not offend someone else and that's fine. I never said anybody else should be. I don't know why my opinion bothered you so much you had to say something. Like everyone else I posted a reaction to a video, so what? You couldn't just ignore it and move along? It's not like I called him names or called for a boycott or whatever. I doubt anyone else cares that much about what I said or will read it. You obviously didn't read the other comments because I'm not the only one mad at him. Or if you did then you chose to pick on me/call me dumb which is also not cool dude.
