Amazing video! I’ve been waiting years for someone to put out a video or even article on this topic. Many have tried to put out videos that only scratch the surface of the topic and don’t actually address the real question of anyone buying a glove. You really nailed it for those of us who overthink our purchase decisions. Thanks so much!!!
For anyone wondering, a "pitchers web" is usually a basket weave, or anything where you CANNOT see thru it. This is to protect the fingering of your pitches. It may be unlikely someone can see ur fingers inside an h web but why risk it.
production quality of ur vids is great! i use a 11.5 inch basket web as a pitcher and having that web does giv some advantages, looking forward to that japanese glove, the design is superb. always loved closed web ones cause a lot of my faves use one
I've read somewhere that outfield gloves use H webs to actually look at the ball true the web. Also can be helpful when the ball is in the sun. I've purchased a new gloves this year and I've switched from full web to H, and I love it since my position is always outfield. Thanks for the great video
I use the glove to block the sun but keep the ball to the side, and move it t catch the ball when it's close. Looking thru the web leaves room for error. But if it works for u 🤙
I agree with Robbie I wouldn't recommend looking through the web either, use the glove to block the sun that way if you have to move you never lose sight of the ball you're relying on looking through a small window in the glove and hoping that that window aligns with the glove blocking the sun not even a good habit to start doing. Close the glove and use it to block the sun like you're supposed to lol.
Outside of the pitcher and catcher positions, you pretty much can't go wrong with an H web. They're common in the outfield and at 3B, reasonably prevalent at 1B, and even some middle infielders use them (like DJ LemMahieu and Corey Seager). I think this is because the H web mostly accommodates the glove pattern; it likely won't make it deeper or more shallow.
If you’re the 🐐 it don’t matter what web you use, a glove is a glove. Jeter used a closed web, Cal Ripken Jr and Arod used big gloves at short. Use what you like and what you’re comfortable with bros.
I prefer the basket web. I play outfield and pitcher and I understand the point that you can’t see through it but I don’t see it as much of a problem. When it comes to durability I feel that as far as cross and h gloves go, the always seem to be less durable than the basket web. From my perspective, this is all personal preference and comfort.
Depth of pocket is more important than web design. I would never use anything other than an I web for middle infield unless you like having a handfull of dirt when you transfer. I like a slightly deeper pocket at short 11 3/4" and the shallowest possible at 2nd, (I like my 2nd baseman's glove to be flat like a frying pan 11-11 1/4"). I like an H web for third with a deep pocket 11 3/4 to 12". Outfield minimum 12.5" with an H web. I love the three finger style, too. Pitcher - anything that can hide the ball.
The "6-fingered" Rawlings Trapeze model was specially designed for Stan Musial, so he could use the same glove in both right field and at first base near the end of his career. I got my own Stan Musial HOH TG-12 in late 1960 when I was almost 8. I use a tan 13-inch "6-fingered" Rawlings HOH Trapeze PRO-TB24 these days for my senior softball, whether I play third base, first base, or outfield. My 32-year-old daughter has two tan "6-fingered" Rawlings HOH Trapeze gloves.
Hey bro, I’,m a big fan and I was wondering if you could do a video in the Kris Bryant model. I got my dad one for Christmas and always thought it was weird how he used such a big glove at 3rd and how he shapes it.
Okay, so I’m in the market for a glove and I found one online. It happens to be a Nike Shado Vapor Elite J. The webbing is closed off but it’s not completely a basket web. It’s a 11.5 so basically a infielder’s glove. I pitch on the side too and I love Nike, do you think it will be a good purchase since I play a little infield too?
I love the look of a trapeze web, thanks to Ichiro but I play shortstop full time. I also want to go 11.25", and using a trapeze would look silly that small. Guess we can't have it all lol
While it is rare, a six finger trapeze glove can be used in the middle infield. I think Ozzie Smith used a 12 inch six finger glove for a good bit of his career.
Looking at gloves now in 12.75 for competitive slow pitch, it seems most gloves of that size are labelled "for outfield use". Will that make a difference in how it comes to me or is all of that based on how I shape it when I break it in? I currently have a modified trap but I am looking for a substantial upgrade and most of what I have looked at is H-web in Rawlings and Wilson.
so, i want to get a matching glove with my friend's little sister and my little sister, but the webbing is a basket web. Would that be good to use if i play pitcher and middle infield/3rd?
list below of common webs i like and dont like for infield and outfield 👍 for infield - i-web (also includes variants: v-web, diamond web) - cross web (also includes variants: laced, hinge style, mod cross web) - H-web (also includes variants: laced) 👍 for outfield - H web - T-web (also includes variants: mod-T web) - cross web (duel horizontal post) 👎 for infield - One-piece web (also includes variants: two piece web, One-piece Full web) - Net web 👎 for outfield - Basket web - Hinge post web (also includes variants: duel hinge web) - One-piece web (also includes variants: two piece web) - i-web (also includes variants: v-web, diamond web)
I believe I know the web you’re talking about. That wouldn’t be a bad choice at all. Like I said the shape of the glove matters more and the way you break it in matters a TON
THis actually helps alot. I play third and middle infield. Mainly 3rd and i didnt know either to get a I web or a pro H. I feel like the h web can be more flexible with the positions i play as the one im getting can be played for 3rd and middle infield. Thanks for this awesome video!
I play mainly pitcher, middle infield, some outfield, and use a mod trapeze web, works great for me. Conceals the ball as pitcher, and still isn’t a super deep pocket (I have a 44) also for my 44, it’s still not fully broken in, but it still rubs on my hand, sometimes peeling my skin, I didn’t have a good glove previously so Is it just the better leather, or what?
I’ve had the irritation on some gloves, it’s unfortunate and just happens sometimes (it happens less with the main brands like Wilson and Rawlings cause they are better haha)
I was thinking of ordering a custom pro 44 and I was think of getting a 12 inch glove with a I web I was wondering if the web would work on the glove as I play 3rd base? If not do you have any recommendations for webs for a 3rd base glove?
When I was a kid. I got a baseball glove for Christmas.. it was very good quality (Rawlings) We didn’t know what position it was designed for. I broke it in by playing with it, and it didn’t matter. I played as a baseman/outfielder/short stop even pitcher occasion. What matters most is your athleticism. A good athlete or make any club work in any position with the exception of catching.
The web doesnt really matter but I wouldn’t recommend a one piece web or basket web for any infield position because if you have an I web or a similar web if you scoop up some dirt on a ground ball it lets the dirt fall out and you can grip the ball easier
I play shortstop making but I use a glove very similar to the Derek Jeter model and I love it. One time I lost my main glove and had to use an I post and it broke in the first game
Good gloves great price I have some videos on them. They rock for the price but if you want the best glove possible then look toward Rawlings and Wilson
I play rf but I’m sub for ss if our ss player is sick or out for some reason. I use a 12 1/2 deep H web for fielding so I can see through the web and a 12 standard basket web for when I sub ss.
What are you thoughts on using a baseball glove for slow pitch softball. I was playing with a an 11" glove (that I used to use as 2nd basemen growing up) but it's too small and the ball was literally bouncing out of the glove. Just bought a 12" 'pitcher' glove to use as my main softball glove. I couldn't even imagine going larger than 12" but many/most do.
I used to use my 12.5" outfielders glove as my softball glove. I think 11" is not nearly big enough for softball. 12"..is OK....sort of depends on the design and depth of pocket. I think if you don't make the glove close thumb to pinky then do not use it for softball. Not sure about your situation, but I would buy a dedicated softball glove as that 12" glove you have is probably on the small side.
@@scottiebumich I use my outfielders glove and it closes pinky to thumb, (the way I formed the glove). I also put two fingers in the pinky hole and move my other fingers over to create a "bigger pocket" - this is for baseball as an outfielder. I do the same for softball - regardless of position. I used my baseball outfielders glove with two in the pinky.
@@Ireland831 Thanks, any way to reform the glove to fold pinky to thumb? I find 2 in the pinky makes for a much larger pocket, don't like it for baseball, but at 36, I don't see myself playing baseball much any more.
@@scottiebumich My infielders gloves I have them cross close. I have never re-formed a glove to do the opposite. When forming leather, hot water ~150 degrees and wet the glove. Then work it they way you want it, but I wouldn't think it will work very well. There are some cheaper gloves on the market. As I remember I got my son a Rawlings M9 12" cheap. Maybe you can just get a new/used glove??
I’m looking for a 12.25 or 12.5 . I’m currently using for the past 5 yrs Rawlings glove size 12.5 with basket web . I ve just purchased the 11.75 rev1x , which is a great glove but the size for me is just to small I’m making errors, lol I’m just not use to the smaller size , I definitely need to go back to the 12.5 or 12.25 , Please give your best recommendation on the best glove for the sizes . Gloves are very expensive and I already see myself spending more money if I keep going based on my limited knowledge of gloves , any help would be greatly appreciate .
Not a very good choice to be honest. A one piece web will feel a little bulky/ awkward. Plus a lot of guys like being able to see through the web just enough to help make tough plays
Basically all Japanese brands not named Mizuno because you practically can't find them in America like Zett, SSK, Hatakeyama, Asics. Even Brett Bros which is endorsed by MLB HOF George Brett is never seen much here. Edit: forgot about Asics
You should try out a hockey goalie glove. Each manufacturer has a specific feel as well as each of their models has a different closure. The pockets can act differently based on whether the lacing is nylon or skate lace and also the T for the pocket either being a single or double changes how the gloves receive pucks. With some it’s just as easy to catch without closing the glove as it is to close it.
