I have always wondered about this, thanks so much for testing out the theory and letting us know!

They are different car models? This it such a terrible comparison. Video Fail

I got into my car this morning and it wasn’t as hot as it usually is if I didn’t have the shades up. I could literally feel the diff. Totes!

Not a good test when there are differentiating factors. One major one is vehicle color. That alone makes a huge difference in interior temperature. Black vehicles are hotter. Measure 2 similar vehicles to get an accurate reading

Baloney! You have no idea what you're talking about. A sunshield, no matter the car NOR the color works. I use one and have for years.

@@eleanorek.leslie9818 Jerry was not making a qualitative point, but rather a quantitative one. Yes, sunshades ALWAYS help, but how much is the question. For an ACCURATE test one should test two identical vehicles (make, model, and color) with and without the sunshade. And even those results will be different with a different car color. For example, black vehicles may find that the temp difference is higher than the difference between white vehicles, though of course even a white vehicle will be cooler with the sunshade. In the end, the temperature difference isn't important except for comparing different sunshades to find the best one/material. ALL sunshades help. So I'd be more interested in a test between different sunshades than simply with and without one.

@@rhmayer1 although true, we do not need to have exact model for this example simplily cuz the question is "does sunshade work" instead of "how much difference is a car with a sunshade vs without one". If this was trying to be accurate as possible, then yes everything matter

@@scoot5642 You're basically repeating my point. "Does sunshade work"? is the qualitative (yes/no) question. (Of course they do. Even plain cardboard will cool a car to some degree.) "How much difference..." is the quantitative question which was what the original commenter raised (and goes more directly to the point of "how effective is the sunshade at cooling?" You need the exact same vehicle model and color, etc. if you are trying to assess the quantitative benefit accurately. My comment was just trying to clarify to Eleanor that there was no "baloney" here. She was just thinking qualitative while Jerry was thinking quantitative. The video was trying to argue both - yes, sunshades help keep cars cooler (don't really need a video to argue that point) but his temperature measurements to attempt to determine how much did not provide accurate (scientifically valid) quantitative results. Jerry is simply correctly pointing out the latter, not arguing against the former. The reason that accurate quantitative testing is important is because then you could more accurately determine which cars get hottest (for different models with different interior volume, different colors, etc.) and, of more benefit, which types and brands of sunshades are more/most effective, to help determine the best sunshade on the market. This is just an intellectual exercise. But in practical terms, maybe someone who is really heat-averse would want to buy the coolest car and the most effective sunshade available.

If you live in Texas, sunshades are a literal lifesaver in the summer Better yet, have sunshades and window visors/rain deflectors so you can crack the windows by an inch. Especially relevant in 2021 as this has been one of the rainiest years on record

It is very nice that it works for lowering the temperature, specially the steering wheel. I do not like when it gets all warm x.x

The biggest thing is keep that dash cool. There's so much radiant heat that comes off of black dash boards.

My truck is only hot for the 2 seconds it takes to put the windows down. These shades aren't worth the time.
