18:00 one thing that's oddly inconsistent throughout the movie is the tongue color. like most of the time its the normal reddish/orange color like in the show but sometimes its randomly pink. it can even change in the same scene

Bob’s Burgers The Movie is absolutely the best adapted cartoon to a movie I’ve ever seen. Animation is incredible, the songs are incredibly catchy, and the story raises the stakes perfectly. It’s too bad you did this panel BEFORE you got to see it. But I hope you talk about it in a video soon!

This was a really neat thing to watch. You really captured what makes these adaptations so special, specifically everything good, bad and in between. You clearly love talking about this stuff and it’s so refreshing to see. I love how you spent a decent chunk of time covering the Teacher’s Pet movie, that is truly a guilty pleasure of mine if there ever was one lol

The letterboxd reviews saying Teacher’s Pet The Movie is transphobic is primarily because the show has a surprising cult following, especially with trans people. Spot wanting to be a boy (becoming Scott Leadready III during the day and loving it) has been seen as a parallel to transitioning. Thats not the intended canon, obviously, but a lot of trans people can relate to Scott. The ending of the movie kinda shits all over that messaging, especially since theres a deleted ending that actually fits the original vibes of the show. Which explains the Letterboxd reviews. Sorry for the long comment lol Im a bit of a superfan for the show heh

Yeah, I think people seeing Scott becoming a boy being a parallel to transitioning is something I could’ve explained a little better, but then again, it was a live panel and I was working off of no notes. Thanks for the insight though!

Technically the whole trend of movies based on cartoons didn't start in the 90s. Infact it actually started back in 1964 with the release of Hanna Barbara's hey there it's yogi bear. The 90s just happened to really popularize it.

I agree on that when it comes to animation. However, I feel like Hollywood has been making live action movies based on cartoons ever since 1980 starting with Popeye starring Robin Williams.

I love the Teachers Pet Movie and think it’s an example of a perfect ending to a tv series. I also grew up watching the show on Toon Disney and have a soft spot for it though.

Yeah, I saw that with my dad when it first came out and I still remember that experience fondly. Seeing a Cartoon Network show of that caliber on the big screen for the first time was…beautifully ethereal to say the least.

I always thought that it's a shame that Cartoon Network never done more than 1 theatrical movie (or 2 if you count Teen Titans GO!), just cause they were discouraged from their financial flop(s)

It kinda depends on how simple and standalone the premise it can be for the newcomers and how it's executed well for fans. If it's already popular and well known show like SpongeBob, it works. Obscure shows won't do too well.

My younger sister and I watched Teachers Pet last year, and I made the joke saying that the dog was a detransitioner and I find it really funny that other people who’ve watched the movie interpreted or joked about that online too.

The way I see it is that it's Plankton after 100 seasons of not being able to get the formula as the movie takes place at the very end of the timeline. Wouldn't you go a little listen if you kept at failing at something no matter how hard you tried?

I like the first two SpongeBob movies a lot but because I've been getting into 3D Blu-rays I decided to pick up the 3D Blu-ray of sponge out of water, and it's really good in 3D. You wouldn't think there would be much benefit of converting a mostly 2D animated movie into 3D but the added depth to what is otherwise flat drawings is really good and I think adds something to watching the movie. If you ever get the chance to watch Sponge Out of Water in 3D I would highly recommend not missing it.

This is giving me serious flashbacks of the trend of making live-action movies based on cartoon characters. Like seriously, remember those? I swear, there were ones based on The Smurfs, Garfield, The Flintstones, Alvin And the Chipmunks, Rocky & Bullwinkle, heck even freakin' Dragon Ball got one of them!

OK, this video did sort of answer my question. The one being how come movies that are big screen adaptations of TV series don't usually get much recognition after their release? Like the feeling they just came and went(Which is how I feel on modern movies nowadays in general since nothing feels sacred anymore since most just reuse plotlines that came from other films, and not just the remakes or reboots)Sure they do have fan followings, why in the general public they don't get much acknowledgement as much as their TV series does? Maybe one of them is that maybe for casual audience members worry that they need to watch the show beforehand in order to understand the context of the movie?
