Great info! Sometimes people forget that farm animals are still animals that are designed to live outside and can survive and even thrive in weather that we find intolerable.

So true! I'm amazed at chickens resilience in cold weather (even though they hate the snow 🙂)

I have an infrared heating panel (that I used when they were chicks). I mainly have it to keep it dry. We are still getting about 9-10 eggs a day from our 19 hens. I also invested in a 3 gallon heated watering container. I have noticed they have been eating more food. I add mealworms in with their feed. I also deep bed my coop with pine shavings. My sister-in-law’s coop started to burn due to a bumped heating lamp. Fortunately they were there and caught it before it got out of control.

Glad they caught the fire in time! I have used a heated waterer in the past and it worked pretty well. I just didn't feel like dragging the extension cord down to the coop this winter. So on the real cold days I just take a couple of water pitchers down each morning which isn't so bad.
