On June 1, Abby, our older Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crossed the rainbow bridge. While we and Oliver (our other dog) have a big hole in our hearts, I wanted to get out an update on the garden, do a little tour, and give a little tribute to Abby. This video is a bit longer than what I have been doing over the past year or two, but I hope you enjoy the garden tour and get some helpful tips along the way.

Thank you, they sure do. I'm more attached to them then humans sometimes I think. Its not fair they don't get to have longer lives.

My condolences on your loss of Abby. I'm sitting with you, as I lost my German Shepherd gardening buddy, Sable last season. I still look for her in her favorite spots in the garden. Our other elderly dog was so lost without his girl, so we got a Cairn Terrier pup last fall. They are best buddies. Your garden looks so lush. Love all the flowers! Will be looking forward to the video and updates on your cobblestone path. I pulled the lettuce and spinach that were bolting and sowed another round of green bean seeds.

Thank you! My condolences to you as well for the loss of your Sable. Its been two weeks now since Abby passed and I still look for her in the garden and yard. My lettuce and spinach has all bolted now too, and I have a couple of varieties of bush beans I was thinking of putting in as well. We have a two week heat wave that is starting today with temps between 90 and 100 and no rain in the forecast, so planting and working more on the cobblestone path may be a bit more challenging!

Thank you. Cavaliers are such sweet pets. Abby and I bonded on day one and she was such a great garden dog. I will miss her forever.

Beautiful walk through the garden - I'm sure Abby approves. I always enjoy seeing other people's garden progress. I'm in the same growing zone so your garden is a better comparison for me, haha. Your onions are doing better than mine! We both 'suffer' from takeover yarrow. You got your beans in earlier than me, mine just sprouted two days ago. Nothing ate my cucumbers - yay - so I've got one on you there! That being said, I'm about to direct sow another batch of them to stagger out the season. Gorgeous cabbage! That's one I'm still trying to get the hang of.

Thank you! Staggering the cucumbers is a great idea, and not something I've done in the past, but probably will next season since this year I'm starting over with them anyway. I am hoping the cabbage continues to do well. This is the first time I'm not growing them in a covered bed, so I'm hoping the cabbage moths don't get them. With those radishes growing next to them though, I have noticed the cabbage moths going to the radish blossoms instead of the cabbage, so maybe that will continue to work.

@@oneseedoneworld I staggered them by accident one year (lost some plants and seeded new ones) and was quite pleased with the effect - kind of eased the season on as the original cukes aged out! Between figuring out when to start the cabbage, when to transplant it, and the dratted cabbage moths I've barely a total of 5 fist-sized cabbages to my record. I will be most interested to see how your radish experiment turns out!
