The headphone recording comparison was stellar! Probably the best actual review of headphones I've experienced. Frequency response graphs are genuinely great, but sometimes it's like listening to somebody describe the Mona Lisa. I just wanna *see*! The differences in response and signature between all of those headsets came through very well, and clearly put their capabilities on display. Also, there is a practical reason to have a slightly boofy mic on a gaming headset; it suppresses keyboard clacks (clacky shiny R-G-B keyboards, so hot right now). Honestly I just subscribed for the laughs, so this is kinda boggling my mind right now.
random_n hey there is a reason for the loud keyboards I assume you know but just in case you don’t, they are mechanical keyboards with provides better speed and performance
I’ve owned a pair of the Hyper Xs for the last 5 or so years, and they’re the only thing that transitioned from my Xbox phase to the PC phase, and I absolutely love them.
I bought the Krakens for work because I'm on the phone all day and they're way more comfortable than standard phone headsets (the on ear, single driver kind). The reasonable sound quality was just an added bonus. The pair I got says "Tournament Edition" and have some differences from what you showed including a detachable USB audio remote and cooling gel injected into the padding.
I got the tournament editions and that thing is so damn heavy, I started getting compression headaches from using the headphones after a week of normal use. Had to return them sadly🙁
@@pvshka I just didn’t use headphones for like a year, then just recently bought the sennheiser pxc 550-II and these are so light and comfortable and I can wear them for hours without even my ears getting hot, are wireless and sound way better than the razor headset. But I had to bump up my budget a little bit (by a little I mean 160$).
Cloud IIs are the GOAT of the gaming-class headphones, in my opinion. I've tried quite a few different headphones (on Hifiman Sundaras right now) and the Cloud IIs are the all-around winner for the gamer on a budget.
The HyperX Cloud II's are and were ~80$ though for the last half a decade, ya got ripped off for the 100$ (USD) price tag, though not by much, but still .--. But overall I love them, great build quality- it survived nearly 5 years now with MANY drops and accidents, and just a scratch on the metal, and amazingly even 5 years later with daily usage the pleather earcups still look and feel brand new, though a bit oily, and even with daily switching between the dongle and my phone for the headphone jack, it still works well and hasn't broken, the comfort is amazing, don't feel them for hours, they're the best set of headphones I own so I can't really comment on sound, and overall for 60 euro I got them for on a sale an amazing headset :)
To be fair the current price is $129 AUD on Amazon, which is around $93 USD. Still more expensive than US price, but AU price might include tax, and US price not, so swings & roundabouts really.
@@manakmishra I converted it, they're exactly 100 USD, aka 138.37 AUD. So ye, they're 100$ there :/ I'm in a Euro country myself, but tend to use USD$ most of the time online since that's basically the default for some reason >_>
For every one of the sound tests the headphones sounded like they had a piece of paper between my ear and the speakers till the GSP 550's which sounded just noticeably like they had a thin piece of paper shoved between my ears and headphones (and the last ones sounded pretty darn close. Still feels crunched down a bit)
Would love to see an updated version of this video with Sennheizer PC38x, Epos H6Pro, HyperX Cloud II (a new pair - not from your collection - because I believe they changed them and they aren't as good as they used to be), Razer Kraken v3, Corsair HS80 and Beyerdynamic MMX100.
There’s so many, Like the Razer Nari’s the Blackshark V2s, the Sennheizer GSP 600s, 601s, and the 670’s, and the Astro’s that come with an amplifier. He never even reviewed any Turtle Beach, are they not available in AU?
@@ghostridernz17 I'm glad I recently found this out. I lost the usb cable for my cloud ii's and fell into a rabbit hole looking for a replacement. I ended up getting the pc38x headset with a Schiit Hel dac/amp and wow, what a difference. Even the clouds sound so much better plugged into that Schiit 😁
Listening to the HyperX Cloud 2s on a pair of HyperX Cloud 2s was interesting to say the least lmao. I got them for half the price you showed in the video, so they're awesome value. Really comfortable, I used to have some audio crackling issues with them but since switching computers I haven't had a problem since.
reminds me a friend of mine (a girl) mic testing once we were recording a school video: "Nice to meet you, I'm CARLOS and the hormone therapy is going well"
HyperXs always have a very distinctive microphone sound, you can usually immediately tell someone is using them by their microphone sound. Dunkey uses them in his gameplay segments and you can always tell. They have that specific compressed feeling.
I own a pair of Krakens, and always thought this was an issue with my particular headset. For the untrained ear it’s only noticeable at lower volumes, but still there
I bought my Cloud II's like a year and a half ago because of you, and after living in some $20(us) Chinese bootleg headphones for years, I put on the Cloud II's and I almost cried because of how big the difference was. You brought me out of the slums and I am very grateful.
Cloud II's are great, but if you want that experience again then some nice 150-300 dollar open backs can do it again. Just be careful, there's no going back.
@@AceArata Which ones? Hyper's or the 770's? Either way they're both good. The one thing I will say is, upgrade to FLACs. Getting FLACs was like unlocking a secret hidden layer of my hyper's and the 770s don't sound right without them imo.
My Dad is a musician so I game with a borrowed shure stage mic and my own audiophile headphones, all plugged in to a behringer desk. I might suck at gaming but boy do I sound amazing doing it

If you are going to buy some cheap headphones I would recommend the HunterSpider V4 they are about 20-25 USD on eBay. I use them, and they are wonderful. (For the price)

The Razer surround stuff is actually entirely software, they just provide a pre-calibrated set of settings for their models of headphones. You can actually use it with any other headphones, but you might need to adjust the settings a bit for it to work well.
I was going to comment about this, Razer's software is free for the most part but when paired with their headphones (that's why they need activation code stuff) it unlocks more features and config options
Sounds like you need the to put chi-fi in your life. You won't believe the quality you can get out of a 5 dollar chinese pair if you pick the right one.
@@AnonymousGentooman or maybe just get some good Studio Monitors while you spend kinda buck cash? dunno man but i can definetley recommend doing that 100%
i use the hyper x cloud ii wireless headphones and they are wonderful. i love them so much, so comfy 10/10 would buy again and recommend. but the one thing is the wireless ones are like 140, which is pretty decent for bluetooth headphones but its not really budget.
I'm using the wired version of the hyperx cloud ii, and I agree, they're awesome. The only downside is that the headband is hard to replace, if you aren't a skilled technician, compared to the earpads. Otherwise, it's a great headphone for its value.
I upgraded from my old Corsair headphones to the Cloud 2 Wireless, and they are really nice. Nice and comfortable, good audio quality, good battery life, even the mic is decent (most in built mic's aren't that good as they want you to go external). I got mine on sale for £100, though the wired version is under £50.

I've got the razer krakens and I've been using them for a few years, they've been really good. Biggest issue is echo when using them with my xbox, but they are fine with my phone so that might be my settings fault

@@ntrDRUMMER firstly my comment was kind of stupid because I realized that he could have been talking about something old anyways like on ebay Secondly I just remember that I heard Sony was stopping making a lot of their other stuff that's not game systems (like phones and tablets and laptops etc) so I was thinking of that.
I have a pair of Steelseries Arctis 3 bluetooth, and I think the headband is pretty comfy. I replaced the earpads with the ones they sell for the Arctis Pro headset, and those have much more substance and support. I can wear them for hours without issue, although my ears do start to get fatigued where my glasses come through, but if I didn't wear glasses, it wouldn't be an issue.
It's funny how when you hear the HD 600s at first in the audio test you think "yeah that sound is ok" and then you listen to the other headphones and realise why the HD 600s are so expensive
I really appreciate having the ability to hear each set compared to a good "base level" set, especially with the graph so i can listen and point out what part I can hear and what gets toned down. Even though it still comes through my speakers, with YT compression its the COMPARISON that matters the most in learning mate. Top Stuff! PS Love the Frank cameo's at the end of each one
Same, though I'd want dank to play the same parts of the song in the comparison between the headphones. Also the ears make me think of ASMR artists though I've head worse whispering in my ears then this lovely ausie man.
I love that you are expanding outside of only Ipod content, and I think you should do more stuff like this in the future. I think your experience and perspective as a musician leads to you giving very informative yet concise explanations and reviews, whereas your personality makes everything a joy as always. Great video, it has genuinely give me some new perspective for picking out future gaming headsets and what I should look for.
I bought the hyper x cloud 2s because I found them to be the best value. And if I am being honest, they sound great. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone looking for good headphones, not just for gaming, but for listening to anything overall.
@@MakerMrDoge Thats the one I'm looking for. Some say the quality control of the HP ones are questionable. Edit: Oh and the HP ones doesn't come with a bag.

I can vouch for the hyper x’s. Ive had my pair for 2 years now and of course the started peeling but that is normal. Great pair of head phones none the less and i love this mans content👍🏽
I have the Cloud Alphas and theyre really good the only problem with them i have is they seem to pick up their own sound through the mic, I did some googling and apparently its an issue with HyperX's headsets

I would recommend the old school Steelseries Siberia V2, they were amazing. And cheap. Creative Fatal1ty line-up still deserves a shout, even though they are becoming rarer. And one entire brand you missed out on is Logitech, they have some good ones.
Bought my V2 in 2016, when they had already stopped production. Good sound, super comfortable. Mic was meh and died after 3 years, the rest is still going strong except the head cushion thing fell off. Got it repaired, but that didn't last very long, so now I just put it on separately lol
DecliningShip 420 But there are tons of speakers out there, wich are on part with really good headphones. You would still be able to make out the differences in audio fidelity.
Cr33p3r HD Audio quality takes a huge dip when you're blasting the sound out into open space. The environment and even the air itself warps the audio. Easier to control audio when the sound device is right up against the ear.
@@cr33p3rhd6 A good speaker setup can be really fun to listen to, but it'll never be accurate, the way a high-end pair of headphones is. Different products for different uses.
It's probably because the HyperX Clouds are actually a rebrand of the Takstar Pro 80s, which were already well respected headphone in the audiophile community
I’m with you on that one, but not too long ago was messing with the little volume adjuster and squeezed the flat sides of it and BOOM! The left side came to life!!!!! It gets weak here and there but now I just give it a little squeeze or a tap and right back to life. I dont like that I have to do that little trick but hey it works.
as someone whos listening to this on a somewhat decent studio speaker system I have to say I very throughly enjoyed the binaural recording. It's a shame that the top end of the recording drops off (around 8k ish I feel) but I understand that your not willing to pay 6 Grand for a Neumann Manaquin head. Also cheers for reviewing the arctis 5s, I hate that type of earcup so will be avoiding these!
@@j.r.huffnstuff3549 nah fam, RU-vid uses AAC or Opus for VP9 videos with variable bitrate, which is comparable to 320 kbps MP3, which sounds FINE to anyone without golden ears. I know there are folks out there who flat out refuse to listen to anything below FLAC because MP3 has too much artifacting but they're in the minority. Music on RU-vid sometimes sounds like shit because it was encoded in poor quality before uploading or the video is 480p and below.
@@neoqueto I actually could not disagree more, the raw compression algorithm youtube uses forces most audio to fit within its niche specs and sounds awful. If you're mastering music for youtube and you know the thresholds and correct sample rate ect then yes thats fine but the average creator will leave a dB or two below 0 for lee-way (as an example) and get their audio slammed, average viewer won't notice but others definitely will. It's a golden rule for DJs that you do not rip music from youtube because venue speakers will show the true quality of the youtube rips, I feel like while subjective and variable, youtubes approach with audio objectively degrades quality noticeably to the keen ear.
