In this video we’re going to look at the first installment of AOP Pro. This is a series we’re going to start dealing with the professional aspects of photography as a career, self promotion and marketing.
We’re going to discuss photography agents. This is an important aspect of a photographers career and the right agency can open doors and negotiate jobs for you bringing a skill that you might not have as a creative. How do you go about finding a photography agent? What can they do for you? We will explore that in this video.

I would love to see you revisit this for 2019. Anymore people get jobs based off of their social media (Instagram) however I think there is something to be said for manicuring and grooming our portfolio with the help of another set of eyes so we can put our best foot forward. Agency may not be the long term goal, but I'm in college and it is certainly looking like a way to reduce the student loans and cut my teeth. I would also LOVE to see you touch on microstock and how that may be evolving. Awesome video, keep up the good work!

I would imagine depends on the client . In fashion industry my understanding is they go through reputable agencies. I would imagine photographers are not getting booked by Dolce and Gabbana solely on their instagram feed for major campaigns

Can you revisit this topic now that it’s 2021? I feel this could be very useful even more now, all things considered. 🤞🏾

Great video Ted, thanks. I like how you are taking your full time business, incorporating the sponsors in the subject. That is always hard to do as it is a thin line when advice starts to sound like it is "payed for". So far you are doing great job, keep it up! :)

I give percentages to everybody who gets me a client. Its a client I would not have if they would not have recommended me. I was thinking about the whole Agency thing (still need to build a Portfolio for that anyway) but I'm having a hard time in Germany finding something that.... aaaand now you're just talking about theAgentList in the Video :P problem solved.

Hi! I think you should get your facts straight, Wonderful Machine is not really an agency that "reps" photographers. It's more like a paid listing for photographers. Each photographer depending on where they are based pays a fee every month to be listed on their website. They promote a photographers work somewhat by having meetings with ad agencies, creative agencies, etc. This is NOT the way a traditional rep/photographer relationship works. A traditional agency/rep moves your work A LOT because they stand to make 20% of all of your commissions, if they do not get you any work they make zero. Wonderful machine gets their monthly dues from each photographer listed on their website whether or not you get any work through them, I know this because I was with Wonderful Machine when I was based in NYC. I'm not saying that their business model is bad. I think for a lot of the photographers listed on there it has proved profitable to be listed on Wonderful Machine. I do think though that it is a BAD example for a video about photo agents.
