If I knew I wouldn't have any issues with inspection by deleting a diesel without having to swap parts (for inspection), I'd own a diesel in a heartbeat. There is zero chance however I'll own a diesel with current emissions equipment active.

I have a ram 1500 5.7, and run the lower octane here in Colorado when I'm not towing but always put in the higher octane when I am. I would have to agree 100% about the private jets. A truck, diesel or not is used by many people to work and make a living and yes use it to tow our toys at times but the costs have gotten outrageous especially diesels. Its all about money and who's pockets are getting filled.

If you want to really boost your content with this truck. Try to put on the new whipper supercharger and put it to the test for towing purposes and fun as well.

Nice video. Here’s my thoughts: 1) I don’t think it does recommend going to a higher octane for towing. The only thing I remember it saying is if you experience pinging then increase octane. 2) the 2024s had a weight increase for sure. Your truck weighs as much as a Ford diesel where as the 2020-2023 gas trucks weigh around 7200 pounds give or take a little. So you got 500 more pounds. I don’t know if it really hurts 0-60 as much as just needing an extra shift now but who knows. My 2022 is in the 7 second range though and that’s at 1100’-2400’ elevation. So 3-6% down on power. 3) the oil usage thing in my opinion is mostly due to guys going to long between changes. Now of course there’s always the chance at having an actual ring, piston or cylinder wall problem but I think it’s the 5,000+ mile oil changes that do it. My 2022 has been great so far. I’m approaching 31,000 miles and so far it’s been so good. It does not feel underpowered at all and here in Kentucky, at my 1100’-2400’ elevations it feels every bit as quick as my 2020 Duramax I had for 14,000 miles. Again, both are terribly slow compared to something that’s actually fast (like my race car that has a 1.26 second 60’ and is between 116-118 mph in under 6 seconds). So the whole speed thing is just irrelevant in my opinion. The trucks (2020+ HDs) are rock solid feeling going down the road, towing or otherwise.

I did extensive test driving of the 6.6 Gas and 6.6 Diesel and driving highway speeds (no trailer) 70-75 in the gas motor and punching it there just wasn't anything left to pass slower cars. Tried flat road and on incline. There's just nothing left, very sluggish. In Texas we have lots of 2 lane highways and this is a big concern. Did not encounter the same issue in the Diesel, plenty of passing power. 0-70 acceleration you show in this video is nice. Like to see you do a video at 70 mph on an incline and then punch it. I just did not find there to be any power left, truck didn't know what gear to go into. REALLY REALLY wanted to go gas. But kinda leaning diesel now.

I had a 2016 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 and would run premium anytime towing, now that was when I lived in IL and there you can get 93. It made a big difference and that was on flat roads. I run premium all the time in my wifes Equinox. Its tje 1.5 turbo which can run 87 but it pulls harder when accelerating on 93. Havent gone back to regular.

My last 3 trucks were 6.6 Duramaxs. I bought a ‘24 AT4 2500 6.6 gas in July for a few reasons. The primary reason was I had sold my toy hauler 5th wheel and didn’t need a diesel for heavy towing. The other reason was not to have the headache and expensive maintenance of the exhaust system. I’m very happy with my choice. As a bonus I put a Flowmaster on it and I get to listen to that big V8 rumble 👍

I’m using Mid to higher grade gas in my truck. I’ve had my share of diesels Fords 7.3 and Dodge 5.9 . Liked both which were pre emissions Nice video

Just ordered a 2500HD ZR2 gas. My reason: I do not tow over 8k lbs., I do not live in hill country, (no re-gen) at times I do a lot of idling, no DEF, no MAPS sensor maintenance, no cold start worries, $40 less oil change, gas averages 40 cents a gallon less in my region. Love the diesel but it's like a trophy wife, expensive w/high maintenance.

Now I understand a big reason why you buy premium for your L8T. Costco 85 or 91. I wouldn't use 85 either (not worth risk). If you had 87 or 93 as your two choices at your local Costco, would you still spend the extra $ for Premium?

Without the deletes available its gasser all day unless your towing heavy on the daily. Fleet buyer and the cost difference 4-5 years + is not even close. Been thru CP4 failure and 10k plus repair bills. Parts fail and when they do the diesel repair 3-4-5 times the cost.
@Back_door_bandit_98
@Back_door_bandit_98 Год назад
That’s exactly how I feel about it diesel guys say all the time how the gasser can’t make it to 300k miles without major issues but they don’t like to admit modern diesels have major issues as well and even if you did have to replace the entire gas engine it would still cost similar to doing a turbo on a diesel or replacing a fuel rail.
@gregs190
@gregs190 Год назад
You’re not necessarily doing yourself any favors putting 91 in your truck, actually you may be hurting it. If you don’t have spark knock it should be getting 87-88. 91-93 burn at higher temperatures, if you’re cylinders aren’t running hot enough many techs will argue that raw, unburnt fuel will be left behind which washes your cylinder walls in turn promoting wear. Whether or not that’s the case for you and your truck I can’t say. You’d have to do an oil analysis which tests for hydrocarbons. Or just sniff your dipstick. Anyways, no spark knock, stick with 87. Top tier fuel is important, since direct inject was introduced valves and valve seats are prone to carbon deposits, lesser quality “cheap” gas accelerates carbon build up in valve stems and valve seats. GM recommends using only top tier fuels.

E-85 will not save you any money. It is cheaper per gallon but you also get LESS miles per gallons thus offsetting the savings. You also cannot save with diesel b/c it is MORE expensive than regular gas thus offsetting you any milege savings. Diesel eng. is also 10K more MSRP /(or about 2000 gallons of diesel.) Diesel trucks give you more towing power and more range and that' s why people buy them. In case of war or national emergency diesel will be unavailable to public. You may have a hard time with resale value on such a thirsty gas truck. I'm glad you like it but I would only consider diesel 3500 if I could afford one.

Higher octane fuel has less energy per gallon. You are paying more money for worse performance. You want to run the lowest octane fuel you can before the ECU pulls timing. High compression engines need more octane to prevent detonation but if detonation isn't an issue you are wasting money and performance.

also alot of misinformation here again. ive ran into alot of your videos that spread alot of false information. it dosnt matter what you think or what you feel. use the recommended fuel octane that is listed in the owners manual. the vehicle is engineered to run on that. you dont know more than the engineers who designed the engine and you dont benefit more from going over the recommended spec they list. per the 2500/3500 owners manual page 267- "Regular unleaded gasoline meeting ASTM specification D4814 with a posted octane rating (R+M)/2 of 87 or greater is recommended. Do not use gasoline with aposted octane rating of less than 87, as this will result in reduced performance and driveability. If heavy knocking is heard when using gasoline rated at 87 or greater, the engine needs service." if you arnt experience knock (youll know) there is zero benefit to using a greater octane rating. legit wasting money if 87 runs fine... you keep spreaading alot of false information and i get it if you dont know you dont know but as a master tech i think its time for me to unsub just for the sheer fact you dont learn or do your own independent testing. anyway good luck and take care man!

Let's not forget that just because the government mandates it doesn't make it the best solution. There are multifarious ways to 'clean up' a diesel. Never forget that a solution devised by politicians very rarely proves 'effective'. Politicians are in business to pay themselves and their cronies. 'Rules for thee but not for me' might best describe the current political mind-set.
