I bought the BMW 118i M Sport Shadow Edition in Sunset orange metallic Orange, gorgeous colour. Nice to see someone doing subtle mods to the car! Can't wait for the automatic boot struts to be back in stock to get those!

What’s your opinion on the new 1 series? I prefer the old one that had the rwd setup but do own a new shape f40 the fwd one as I had the opportunity to own one and see what it was like. I’m currently looking at either a 2 series or a mini cooper.

Got myself a 2016 116D for my first car, stupidly good on fuel, fast enough (at the moment) I do kind of regret not going for the Msport as mines the regular sport but cheap upgrades and selling the previous parts, full black Msport alloys, tinted windows, black badges and alloy caps, debadged the boot, and will upgrade the wing mirror lights like yours Tempted to do a leather interior swap at a later date

Just got a bmw f21 125i tuning it was the way forward I got stage1 remap went from 218bhp to 270bhp and 440nm what a difference.😀👍

Stage 1 soon! Had a 2018 118i as my first car and the stage 1 tune I got from my local tuner was amazing, especially the torque increase.

Personally wouldn't bother with a piggy back module, all they do is trick the ECU with false figures, the ECU will eventually learn from this as its running like that all the time and degrade the tune. If you're worried about your warranty then something like MHD or most reputable tuners can lock the DME of the ECU again and map it back to stock, yes BMW may well be able to tell if its been mapped but most normal garages won't. At the end of the day, you will be getting marginal gains, personally I'd be saving the money for a future upgrade into a bimmer with a 3.0l S55 engine like mine ;) Keep up the videos mate everyones got to start somewhere and do what makes you happy but thats just a little bit of my thoughts

Enjoyed your video. Just wanted to mention that the range seen on the dash relates to your driving at that point, in other words if you continued to drive as you were on the video you would achieve that range, but if your right foot started to get heavier that figure would go down. On my m140i it tells me on filling up I will achieve 310 - 330, average, but invariable on my next fill it ends up as having done less than 300 miles because of my driving style.

Rather than forking out to but an M140i, you could map the 118i to a stage 2 map which will increase the power and whole feel of the car drastically. Could even fit a better induction kit with a higher quality intercooler and change the injectors. Would be a lot cheaper than purchasing a whole new car just to go fast in, you would also be worried driving an M140 fast as its an expensive car and its your pride and joy, I personally dont think you or many others in your position would use it to its fully potential. Even if you did modify the 118i you could go even further to purchase a new car as a 'daily' which could be bone stock saving the 118 as a weekend car/ toy. Sorry if you take any offence to this :/ but yeh i think that is something i would consider if I was in your same position :)

12:56 sounds familiar haha. But did you know that the very early lci's still had this engine for a few months? So if you where lucky you could find a 116i, 118i lci with the 4 cilinder. The 3 cilinder is the main reason i stayed away from the lci though😅 since i wanted a bit more power. They do sound nice though

I can’t recommend a tuning box, look at Dark side developments video on the tuning box dyno comparison, they won’t provide anywhere close to claimed figures. I think you made the right and mature decision, though it’s just a 118i, has no pro nav, electric seats, HK sound but you’re not living above your means, my friend has an M140i and we are the same age as you, not going into the details but it’s a huge financial burden. Think you’re doing the right thing, hope you don’t end up getting carried away with mods because in the best way possible it is a 118i, I think it would be more worthwhile if you paid off the car first and save the extra money for when you get your M2/140i because you will get these cars, it’s just a matter of time :) that’s just my opinion though

Pay of your car first, trust me it's so much better, I made the mistake of buying kids for mine and then money because an issue and I almost couldn't afford the repayment and almost list my vxr. Mods it when you have more experience

Just get a proper stage 1 remap with like a BMC sport airfilter. Get it done by a company that knows what they're doing and actually tune it on the dyno mate

What year and model variant is your 1 series?

Please don’t get a racechip or tuning box. Had one in my previous mini and it just wasn’t performing so I took it to an actual tuning place and it only produced an extra 16hp at peak. Definitely get it mapped they can adjust a lot more and get the best out of your car. Just had my 120D mapped and got an extra 49hp so its 230 now.

Wouldn’t get a race chip. Rather go with a proper tune on a dyno. These LCI ones don’t get too much power. The previous Gen 114i got 220bhp on a stage 1 tune

You should get a safe remap witch is a safe remap and does not blow up the ECU and gives around 30 bhp with is a bit more power but not a lot but you could get a stage 1 remap with gives it 50 bhp and gives it a little bit more chance of blowing it and if you have Automatic gear box you could tune that as well to shift faster but if you do remap there all ways a risk of some thing getting burnt or a part not working and make shore you get it remapped some were that does its job good. Remaps one of the thing about it it makes so you engine uses less fuel mor economic

Do not get a tuning box!they are not good for your car and rarely make the claimed power

Be careful with your insurance and mods! If the insurance company can find any reason not to pay, they will find it. They are hot on mods.

well you dont want to go too far with that engine, its only a 1.5 petrol, stretching it too far will probably make the fuel economy quite bad an add a load of fuel expenses
