For me this is the best bike I ever owned in all my 44 years of riding, yes I’m 59 years old, had to part with my sport bike career this year the back & wrists aren’t what they used to be 🤗 got my S1000R on impulse just to get the more upright position with the sport bike feel. If such a thing as loving an inanimate object exists then I have to admit I’m in love with her 🥰 just come back from a blat around Norfolk, got home made myself a brew picked up the iPad looking around at reviews for this bike, then a thought hit me 💡🤔 where do I go from hear ? What could possibly top this beauty ? The answer to that is nowhere, so me and the Beamer are now officially life partners 🥰 Listening to you was like listening to me telling every other biker about my bike & they give you that look, you know it, the that bike can’t possibly be better than mine look, fact is if you have never owned or ridden one you are missing out & yes it is by far a better bike than any of yours 🤣😂🤣😂
Glad you enjoyed the video mate. I been riding bikes for nearly 20 years. The S1000R is a serious bike. But like most things it is very subjective. Enjoy my man and ride safe. Johh
I'm lucky enough to have been able to own one after another all the naked bikes I wanted to own. I mean : Mt01, B King, K1300R, Diavel, Superduke, Tuono 1100, Speed Triple and a few others I don"t remember. I now own a S1000R (2017 model). It's the one I've kept for the longest time. I'm perfectly happy with it. Easy and efficient. The cluch handle ? Well, you never touch it except to start riding and to stop riding thanks to the up and down shifter. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's better than, say, the Tuono or the Superduke. But I'm 57 now and it's the easiest to ride of all the super naked bikes.
I have the 2014 model, and every day it never ceases to amaze me. The asymmetrical front is not a problem for me. This one gives you a touch of unique personality. The only bad thing is that it is very easy to become a hooligan with the S1000R
I have the 2019 HP model, and this bike is simply a Beast in ANY Gear !! It has a proven engine, its comfortable, and has every option anyone would want...and Heated Grips. The only thing I regret is that it has no LED headlights when much lesser bikes has them.
Sticky elephant I didn’t actually have a road bike at all, just track/race bikes for a few years. But you’re right I absolutely fell in love with it, and bought it there and then
Great Review, I've recently bought the S1000r Sport, back in September and I absolutely love it. I did initially find the 1st test ride really uncomfortable but after the 2nd test ride and then working out how I could change it to see if it was the best fit for myself being only 5"7 and 19stone, A set of MV 2" Risers made a world of difference and took any wrist, back and neck pain away. Now two months on and I've customised it to almost how I want it. Admit Bmw need to update it now in 2021 going forward but I think it's one of the best if not the best 1 litre Naked sports bikes which has plenty of the toys & gadgets and it's super easy to ride and useable power. Absolutely love it 🏍️💨💨💨.... 👍👍👍
I have a 19, it’s an astoundingly good bike. Warp drive power, telepathic handling, supreme stability. Wunderlich saddles, Vstream screen, and aftermarket steering damper turn it into a comfortable longer range weapon.
Hi there, just found you whilst looking for videos of the 2017 S1KR as I’ve just bought one & picking it up next weekend! I currently have an XR but I have been finding it just a bit to big and heavy for me despite being an amazing machine. I went and test rode the 2020 RR which was out of this world but not for me - a test ride of that taught me that my sports bike riding days are well and truly over! I got off that and rode their 2020 R and fell in love! I should have rode / bought an R ages ago! It was everything that I wish my XR was... although they offered me a great deal on a new one I found a better deal on a 2017 bike which I can’t wait to pick up even more so after watching your video & reading the comments section!! I agree with you and your subs about the tyres, they really do matter and make all the difference when you get it right. Also I agree with one of the comments about the clutch catching / snagging... mine does that as did my gen1 RR I had years ago which they both also suffer with chain clatter as you’re on and off the throttle in traffic which isn’t great but in my experience you don’t seem to get that with the 2017 onwards bikes as that’s the gen3 which is a much more refined ride. Anyway, all the best to you, subbed 👍🏼
Hey Rikki - thank you for the sub mate and welcome to the channel. You are going to LOVE the S1000R. It is an AMAZING machine and as mentioned within this video it has the same engine in as the RR. And for the price of what it cost, you feel like you get a complete bargain. I really haven't got a bad word to say about this S1000R. It is almost perfection. And there are times I look back on these videos and think, did I do the right thing getting the S1000RR. Well, for me the RR is everything the R is and more. And at the moment, I can easily live with the RR. Tyre's: I am perplexed at how many people I see compromise on tyre's within FB groups and forums. It's like buying a designer suit and wearing a pair of old trainers with it. Only with 165bhp at your wrist, you want to make sure you got the grip etc. It takes all sorts to make the world go round, as they say. Enjoy the bike my man and a good decision switching from the XR :-)
Great video. Enjoyed your first person perspective and straight forward opinions. I currently ride a BMW K1200LT I purchased from a friend to see if I would enjoy street riding again after riding off road since 2007 on a KTM 300 in Colorado in the States. I sold my Harley in 2005 because I'd only put 1000 miles on it in three years. I had bought it new in '93 and had enjoyed it for what it was. After riding this Beemer, I can't believe how much I'm enjoying this bike. I mean, it's a pig (850 lbs.) and slow speed stuff can be tricky at 64 yo. It's a 21 year old bike that can still stand tall with current machines in its class. BMW has impressed me and I never thought I'd say that. After the first of the year I'm getting a new bike. I've narrowed it down to the naked bikes (funny, all bikes used to be "naked" bikes). I like the BMW S1000R, the Triumph Speed Triple, and the Yamaha MT-10. The problem with the Triumph is the closest dealer is five hours away going east or west, and that's on interstate highways. With Yamaha I've got three dealers within 50 minutes, and I think it's a great motorcycle, but it's not blowing my skirt up. There is a BMW dealer 50-60 minutes away. I'm really favoring the S1000R the more I ride Big Betty (the K1200LT). In these parts, most people want adventure bikes like the GS, and I'm sure I'll need to order an S1000R. Your video has moved me one square closer to the BMW box. And, I agree the front end is, as Brits say, "a bit of a dog's dinner". Can't see it riding, though. Thanks for the presentation.
Hey Jeff - Firstly, you are riding an awesome machine my friend. The K1200LT is a very nice bike. I think BMW have kind of got the whole motobike thing tied up at the moment. I read from BMW's CEO that they have grown their motorcycle sales year on year, consistently, for the last 10 years. Since they launched they launched the RR series. Thank you for the compliments of the video Jeff. And thak you for taking the time to comment :-)
I've got a 2019 S1000R and I love the way it can do everything so well. It's more than fast enough for me and handles brilliantly. But. I just can't live with the way it looks from the front. No matter how much I stand back and look at it when it's parked up It still does nothing for me looks wise. 😞
@@stickyelephant6027 your right mate. I do love riding it. I've toured on it and done trackdays and it does it all so brilliantly. Thanks for your videos by the way 😃👍🏼
@@chriscolakiss74 No worries Chris. Love hearing how much you used the bike for all the things I planned to do this year but maybe will have to wait until 2021 now. Thanks for the support mate and ride safe.
Most (all?) naked bikes have odd looking front ends. From other angles it looks pretty sharp. You might want to try a different screen. The wunderlich sport screen looks pretty good as does the v-stream.
Had a 2015 s1000r sport with the quick shifter for a couple of years , excellent bike and swapped it for a 2017 model , the only reason was I liked the auto blipper down shift pure and simple otherwise I would still have the 15 model, with out don’t the bmw is a fantastic bike for a bloke who’s 60 years old and still likes to have a serious blast now and again.
Love to hear that Paul mate. 60 years old and still riding a bike like the S1000R. I am sure you are super fit etc but I think it just gives testament to how good this bikes it. Anything thing that puzzles me is that not many moto journalist speak about this bike. Strange one..... Ride safe Paul!
I own a 2017 model and I agree with you in every word. I like many motorcycles, but I love this one now more than the first day. Maybe this would change one day, but I love to think that when I look at it I don't feel nothing missing. I did changes, for aesthetics porpouses mainly (but weight and finish are also improved with them) but the feeling of the bike it has been always great. I think we can not say it is the best supernaked bike with all that fancy rivals out there, but... it is the "best"
Totally agree on the Tuono looking better, for obvious reasons 😎 But the MT-10 looking better than yours ? Nuhhh....not if you ask me. Then there's sound, but that goes to the V4r as well. Performance wise though, the S1000R takes the cake, IMO. 👍
A few months ago I had bought the Honda CBR1000RR because I have never had a super sport bike and as a boy I was very impressed with the CBR900RR. After 1 week I really regretted this purchase, I was not feeling well on this bike and was broken after a few 100km. I quickly sold this bike again and now have the BMW S1000R for 1 week and I am very satisfied with this and the first 1200km are over. was an expensive joke but it turned out fine.
What you explained about getting bored is the same as many other interests, 'GAS' (Gear acquisition syndrome) lol. Aka us humans are never happy with what we got and always fall victim to magpie(atitus) with other bikes and stuff. I still love my s1kr.... but some of the other bikes around does make you look. Loved the video btw. :)
@@stickyelephant6027 I had the 2016 s1000rr before that and although I loved it, it used to hurt to ride it for any length of time (not as young these days). The s1000r is the best compromise.
MT-10 better looking? Surely you jest Sticky? I picked up my s1000r this week & it’s awesome. As you say, this does *everything* without issue. Great video mate.
Hey - Congratulations on your new bike! You are going to love it. I literally have nothing negative to say about this bike, as you can tell from the video. Enjoy :-)
Nice video man. The bike is just awesome. And what you said about the tires is absolutely right. I switched from the Metzler Sportech M7 to the new M9 this year the difference it makes is just unbelievable
@@ur2slob724 very good. I'll definitely recommend you go for it. I was even going to do a video about it. It a whole world between the M7 and the M9 RR
I have a '17 s1000r, but the model without the heated grips, DDC and cruise (I did not want DDC), and agree with everything you say. It is always tempting to look at the new hypernaked machines such as the StreetFighter V4S, but the reality is the s1000r remains a superb and complete machine. Tyres? I have used Metzler M7RR, and they are great but much prefer the Roso III.
I should add, for context, that I have put 36,000 km on my s1000r, which includes six track days at Sydney Motorsport Park and many trips away. Completely stock save for radiator guards - in my profession need to avoid undue hassles with the Police. Only issues have been two water pumps (warranty - just slight trickles that did not more than look a bit dirty on the exhaust and certainly not enough coolant loss to be registered in the expansion chamber) and needing to install the longer cam chain tensioner to stop the rattle (which worked). Service costs have been reasonable (less than on my Skoda Superb, more than on my old SV650). Tyres have lasted about 9000km. Great bike.
Absolutely love my 19 SkR, changed all lights to leds and cheap slipon from prorace and it sounds great. Being 43 now and can’t do the leaned over sort bikes anymore and this is just as fast if not faster except for top end but how often are you gonna do 170+ anyways.
the best way i discribe my bike is if i seen it everyday im like mehh then the lockdown hit and now im like come to daddy again ...the toys help have you tried the pitlane limiter sounds like its running on 2 lol........good video bud just keep the head still a bit more felt dizzy
I know exactly what you mean and I agree. Staying off the bike fr a few days and then jumping back on it, you feel like a king again. Pitelane limiter? On the 2017 S1r? Noted! No head bobbing during vlogging but maybe in some other situations :-)
I have a S1KR also.. and I love it.. do I wish it had LED lights and TFT.. yes.. but Im sure thats coming next year.. I got the suspension and ergonomics setup for my height/weight got a more comfy seat.. made a huge difference.. and such a nice bike to ride slow.. or agressive
@@leonesterhazy8355 funny enough, I went the other way, I had an XR and now have an R, both great bikes. Out if interest, what changes did you make to the R, stiffer springs etc?
Leave the politics out mate! ;) The rest of your vid was superb. Genuine real world reveiw, which I enjoyed :) I have the same 2017 red & black S1R. Superb machine!
Hey Jonathan - Thank you for the complement my friend :-) It all depends on what you from bike. Personally I haven't rode the Honda but I hear its a cracking bike. The S1000R is just.... well, you saw the video. My advice to you my friend, is go and ride both bikes and see what you think? If you can? :-)
Had the bike nearly 5 years and still absolutely love it. Last week tried the Triumph 765RS and it was tame compared to mine. The S1000R is exactly as you have said in the video, plenty of power for the road, comfort (all day in the saddle is no problem). I have tried other machines and nothing comes close. Loved the Boris explanation, like you say use your noggin and stay safe. Great vid, 👍.
I had a speed triple swapped to a Fireblade regretted it as you need to be going 130 for fun on the road which is madness. Now looking at the S1K, did you find it a bit bland after the speed triple ? Also I notice your later videos have an S1kRR
I found that the S1000R is a much better bike than the triple because it is lighter, faster, and handles better in the corners. The reason I swapped to the RR is because that it handles better than the R. And it's even faster but still has the creature comfort's on it such as cruise control (RR only bike in the sports category to have cruise control) and heated grips and still very comfortable. For me anyway. I done a road trip to Cornwall (videos on my channel) with the RR, no problems at all. For me the RR is the best all round bike. I hope that's helpful. And like most things, the above is very subjective.
Gsxr b I’ve heard that a lot, guess I’m fortunate to have a fantastic Aprilia dealership here in Austin, AF1 Racing. These guys are off the charts good when it comes to both sales and service!
Yes. I notice headshake. But that it to be expected because there is very little weight on the front wheel compared to a superbike / sports bike. Cornering it is solid. I hope this helps.
@@stickyelephant6027 Thanks, I'm trying to decide between a few. It just seems very strange that out of the box a premium bike has this, I've noticed some quite unsettling videos with it. Just need some feedback from owners so thx v much for getting back to me.
@@justwhenyouthought6119 If you can, go test ride one? For the money, you cannot go wrong with this bike. It has everything. I would also test drive the Super Duke 1290 r if you can... Let me know if you have anymore questions... here to help.
Sure maybe get a Slip On if you have cash to burn (I'll let that one go through); but carbon fiber bits 'n' pieces for street riding is purely for bragging rights at your local cafe IMHO.
I owned this bike for 18 months and 15000kms..it's perfect but I got bored..bought a Ducati 999s and have loved it like no other....must be getting old.
@@stickyelephant6027 Haha...about 3 years and definitely not looking to sell..compared to the modern stuff it's primitive but every ride is such a visceral, smile-on-the-dial experience. Great front end and enough power to play with..and I love the heritage...recommended :)
bluefen - I had the Aprilia TuonoRR 2017 and have gone to the s1000r. The Ape was too much for inner city living. Still, the Tuono is a magical bike, enjoy it mate. Ride well.
Just bought S1000R Sport and it’s coming tomorrow but what you’ve said about sport bikes and touring ain’t true for everyone 😅 I’ve done 3k + miles EU trip on a Gsxr 750 and one of the days I’ve ridden it for 18 hours stoping only to refuel, toilet and ate once 😁 Then I’ve done Outer Hebrides while carrying full camping gear on it. My last bike was MV Augusta F3 800 with very aggressive stance and did NC500 with one night sleep in a tent from Glasgow to Glasgow 💪😂. Me and my pals ride supersports and super bikes from first light till it’s dark again. Anyway liked the review and I’ve got the this bike because I think it’s simply brilliant all rounder
Hey Yordan - firstly mate, you are HARDCORE! 18 hours touring, on a sports bike! My word mate, you must be as fit a fiddle? You are not going to be disappointed with S1000R my man. In my opinion it's the most underrated bike out there.
@@stickyelephant6027 just finished work and was already on my phone when I saw you commenting. Already replaced the stock exhaust with cheap gp slash cut stainless still “tubes” and oh god it sound exciting 😍 I think this is the best sounding bike I had with the cheapest end kinda can 😅 Grip tank pads on and I’m waiting for belly pan cover to hide it’s cat 🤩. Haven’t ridden it yet because it’s 2-3 Celsius here and my tires will never warm to enjoy the bike but somehow I feel connection 😁. I’m so happy that I can write all day bla bla about the bike 😂
So the question is what would be a good transition from the street triple, I like most of the the aspects of it perhaps better brakes and a little more power but would like better handling what would be your recommendation is the speed tripple a good option?
Firstly, these questions are soooo subjective. My first answer would be: go and test ride a speed triple, and the S1000RR, in the first instance, if you can. Failing that, I would look at the S1000R because of how light it is. You can ride the S1000R like the street triple. But you can't the ride the street triple like a S1000R, if that makes sense? The handling of the S1000R is hard to beat for its category. Super light (200 KG - ish) with a steering damper. Personally, the S1000R is a step up / in the right direction to what you have. Plus, the S1000R is SUPER easy to ride with lots of luxuries such as heated grips, cruise control, ABS pro, and the list goes on. I hope this proves useful but as I said, go and test ride one if you can, then come back here and let me know how much laughing you did while riding it :-)
@@stickyelephant6027 thanks for your honest opinion it will be a great help for my next bike good to hear the BMW s1000r seems a bike for most road riding scenarios cheers and thanks
Yeh got a 17 plate s1000r in red, epic bike - had it a year and it’s bloody brilliant. Sold my ZZR1400 for it, ZZR monumentally fast but not so good in the twisties. In some ways this bike is quicker (QS is brilliant) yeh front is ugly, but I can’t see it when riding 😂 . Oh and I’m a 59 year old bastard, better than getting an old mans Porsche - and my bike is way quicker 😂
