had the s1000r for 2 years loved it, didnt care for its looks, but that motor was amazing, never thought I would part with it.....till I found and rode a R1200R...OMG it has changed everything, I love this bike so much. It is truly an amazing bike.
Certainly S1000R - I do have one, and love it! Nice torque, nice riding.. just awesome! Had installed an akrapovic and full exhaust that is about fun :)
Whilst I enjoyed this review, in my opinion this is a good example of how difficult it is to be unbiased when one is financially and emotionally invested in a bike. I'm in the market for naked litre bike and rode both of these back to back last week, there is really no comparison. The Z, whilst being an absolutely awesome bike, is not the bike the S is. You were impressed by the power at around 8:30 which illustrates just how much more power there is (if the Z felt close to this, I don't think it would've had such an impact on you) and you didn't actually use the assisted upshift, if you had done I think you would've been even more impressed. The S is significantly more powerful and significantly lighter, for me, this combination produces a stark difference in the bikes and made the Z feel sluggish in comparison. In addition you dwell on the wheel base but they are only 4mm different in wheelbase, nothing any road rider could ever notice. After riding both I felt like the S was clearly significantly faster but also felt like the more advanced bike due to the exceptional tech on the bike (you didn't touch on or test the suspension on the S which is a huge deal for many). I don't mean to be disrespectful but I do feel this review is at best somewhat biased and at worst misleading. To anyone reading this, please try them out before you buy. You might still want the Z but I don't think you'd make that choice for the reasons put forward in this video.
krisknave It was just me and a GoPro having a ride out. I never set out to mislead anyone it was just my thoughts. To be honest with you the BMW did not excite me sorry it's just how it was. The Sugomi edition with the Akrapovic exhausts sounds stunning in my opinion. I do explain my exact feelings in the video saying they are both amazing bikes. I didn't use the word review because I wasn't going to get into details it was just me having a ride out with a camera that's all. As you say and I said in the video people should test ride both bikes before buying. What some people love others will hate.
Fair play, and I've subscribed so there's no hard feelings from my end. the reason I felt compelled to respond was really because I felt they were night and day, if I'd watched your video then rode them, I'd think I was riding 2 different bikes as the video suggests there's not much between them when I felt there was a huge difference, a difference which set the S apart. As you say, horses for courses. Anyway, you've got a new sub, just watched the s1000rr video, brilliant! :-)
@@krisknave im gonna agree with you i am a former z1000 owner recently tried a s1000r and the braking corner entry speed and top end rush are miles ahead of the z. gonna give mid corner stability to the BMW as well, cruise control, heated grips, how refined and linear the power is on the s1000r is. honestly its just better sorry but lets be factual brembos are better than Nissin calipers
@@angry_z_rider4275 I'm an ex S 1,000 R owner and haven't ridden the Z he's got but find it very hard to imagine it being as good in any way as that BMW. I absolutely loved mine and couldn't imagine anything being much better if at all. I loved tight twisty roads on mine too so I don't understand his implied cornering fails, or lack of equivalent ability, it was an amazing handling bike for a 1,000ccs. I got messed up while riding it by an idiot in a wagon so can't ride anything less comfortable and relaxed than a cruiser style bike now unfortunately but in 53 years riding I've never ridden anything remotely as good as that BMW.
So true about sound being a very important reason for choosing a bike. That is something that only a true bike enthusiast can understand and Harley haters will never comprehend. Ride safe.
Right now i'm 18 on a CBT license, i own a CBF 125 and as soon as possible i want to do my A2 license. I was looking at the Z800 which is under the A2 restrictions. And i hope its at least half as good as you make the Z1000 sound! Found your channel today, think you're a brilliant motovlogger. Really enjoyed the S1000rr video as well!
After owning many bikes the sound of a bike when I open it up is everything to me. I have not tried electric yet but people say it feels so flat. I have never been called an old punk before that’s funny.👍
I agree with you 150% about the sound. I had a Street Triple, then an FZ-07, and now my GSXR 600 in the last 3 years. I had to get rid of the Triumph because the exhaust config bothered my ears at cruising speed. The FZ-07 was fun, but I hate the way a 2 cylinder sounds. So I opted to forego the comfort of a naked to give me that 4 cylinder howl and speed in a GSXR instead. I am considering getting a Z1000 down the road, but now you've got me thinking S1000R as well, lol. Thanks for the vid!
If you want 160BHP and an AMAZING sound + popping/crackling, get a Ducati Monster 1200R with Termi's. I can't stop smiling when I hear that exhaust note
The is reasoning behind the wobbly front brake reservoir is to eliminate air bubbles forming in the res. Totally agree it looks crap which is why I changed mine.
Nice review mate, and good point regarding the brake fluid reservoir on the BMW.. it looks like a sample bottle ffs! I'd go for the BMW as the looks of the Z are too mad max for me, plus that engine is a peach 😁 ride safe and thanks for the post. 👍
I have an S1000R, and I agree. If you have a 2010 or newer 1000cc naked, there is no real need for an "upgrade", just as I don't see any point in replacing my -14 for the new -17 S1000R. Phenomenal bike for sure, and the competition is so close that any swap is not worth it. I think it mostly down to which you personally prefer, seating, comfort etc. As for power, yes it is pretty insane, I actually have a 500hp car, and the thrill is nowhere near the bike, I suspect you would need 7-800hp in a car to get a similar "kick" as this bike gives you.
I've got a Zed & was thinking about trading in, test rode the Bee M, although it's a very nice bike as you said the noise from it is just souless compared to the Zed, totally put me off it. I'd rather sound like I was going fast & keep my licence rather than think I'm crawling & wind up busted haha
love the use of that silver gaffer tape, exelent idea especialy when uploading vids of your self on public roads. stops the rossers wanting to nick you with your own vid... simple use of tape to have a great day out.
Hi Buddy, great video! I still love my S1000 and as I only ever keep my bikes about 2yrs I will be after something new next autumn, will be interesting to see if the changes they make to the S1000R will be worth me getting a new one or trying something different, I'm guessing the looks will be very similar and they will perhaps just add a few things like the gear change blipper and cornering traction control and other bits from the RR and XR, very hard to see how they can improve it much more, ps, got my new mic to use in my lid so hopefully it will much improve my chat! Cheers, GMAN
I have the same two bikes you do, 2016 Kawasaki Z1000 and 2017 Kawasaki ZX10R, what are the odds of that ? What years are yours and do you track either bike ?
I just got mine s1000R 2017 and what a beautiful machine, don't buy the bike if you don't have the quick shifter with it.... the sound is so beautiful.
Alan Dubbel V I am getting a GSA next and I might get one of them as well. BMW have really designed a stunning bike there and yes I need a quick shifter. Enjoy mate
My fave bike that BMW make. I tried a 1200RS recently thinking it would be good for me cos I'm getting to be a bit of an old fart. But it left me feeling cold, although it's good. The S1000R is a different proposition though. It's the ergos that do it for me. I love the riding position of the bike.
how do those two bikes compaire? which is better in power/sound/comfort etc? which one would you keep if you had to have only one? are you talking about the 1100 or 1000?
Once you remove the cat, that bike sounds a lot more grunty. The cat is so restrictive, you can ride it without an exhaust can and still not sound obnoxious. And, if you don't want to splurge on a full system, there are aftermarket, cost-effective midpipes that you can install to rule out that cat. Of course, you'll still need to retune the engine, as you would with a full system, but a midpipe is 1/10th the cost of a full system. How do you find the snatchy on/off throttle of the Z1000?
Considering the S1000R, MT-10 and Speed Triple R. Love the character of the triple on the Speed Triple (used to have a Street), but really feeling the need to get nekkid again. Z1000 doesn't do it for me (sorry - but partly because I've had a Z1000SX and I just didn't feel any character from the engine). The acceleration of the S1000R is enticing, but not sure that "character" element is strong enough for me. Completely agree with your thoughts on it being more important how it delivers the power and makes you feel, rather than baseline numbers too... Oh the choices :D
YarekBalear if you can wait a bit of time the new 2017 BMW 1000s looks stunning. I am looking forward to having a go on it and seeing it at the bike show. I love the way the MT 10 looks though.
Hope u know you cost me thousands of dollars because I went out and bought a 2017 s1000r last year it was a demo got a good deal. So thanks it's been modded out all ready.
chris murray What I have learned about people on RU-vid doing bike reviews is this. You could put ten people on both of these bikes and everyone would be a totally different opinion. It's often down to what people are used to and have ridden before. (Expectations are so different). I loved the s1000 and I think the new one looks really good. For me I didn't want all of the tech on my naked bike side of things. I am going to buy the S1000rr as the hole package works for my sports bike needs. That's just how it works for me and I hope it came across on the vid I had one hour to film. Thanks mate
For me the Kawasaki looks are unreal and I have test both bikes and yes the bmr may be faster but for me I will keep the z1000 over the s1000r anyday!!!
I don't think you have the one with all the options like active suspension and which power mode were you using? Mine is a 2016 and has 4 power modes, I prefer the road or dynamic mode
I have not ridden the Z but I've test ridden the s1000r & its a peach of a motorbike. The dash of the Z is a turn off for me personally...it looks to x-box like. Now 2020 & the s1000s is as refined as you will find in a naked bike that does everything from pottering around town, to commuting to work daily, weekend rides, touring and down to a track bike. I'm sure the Z does the same but its a degree of differences these days.
for the 2017 model will it have completely different styling? I was going to get this later next year but if the new styling comes out 2017-2018 i could wait a little.
The dealership said to me that the next model is due next March. I am going to do the same I think wait to see what it looks like. If you got one then it gives you plenty of time to run it in before the summer months. I hope they improve the looks a bit
In my opinion it is way more than a 500PS Car.... A car mostly has like 1,5 tons... So 500PS would be 3 Kilogramm each HP.... And the RR has 1-1 , The R has like 0,75HP to each kilogramm.... This is far away from 500HP Cars...
best 3 super nakeds in class are the ktm 1290 superduke, s1000r, and the new aprilia tuono factory, no other naked comes close, try the tuono when u can it will blow u away
Excellent, yeah sometimes u do have to hold back, super nakeds are really appealing to me now with the comfort element without compromising on performance and I do think super nakeds offer more than sport litre bikes as one is arguably more involved with the bike on a super naked ! Even though I do love sports litre bikes...keep the great comparisons coming....👍
Hey Buddy ... How tall are you? Ive been wanting an Z1000 for a while... But at 6foot1 i feel its a bit too compact for me.. Whilst i fit comfortably on the s1000r . But i LOVE the Z1000 looks. Ohh and can we please get that Z1000 vs GT-R video ?!
I am 5 foot 9 inch. You should go and take one out for a test ride. Hopefully they do some adjustments to the s1000 styling on the next model. I followed my brother on the bikes and I could see people turning around to get a good look at the Z1000.
Lorenzo von Matterhorn Are you talking about the 2017 model? I'm thinking about getting one and I may go for the 2016 they will be a few thousand less next year.
E.S. Slc Yes man, i'll be buying the new model. 2016 is good too and if you buy a 2016 you can update the mapping and get Cornering ABS from the new model ;)
If you base owning a bike just on how it sounds then you not really into the bike, more about image maybe. There's so much more to worry about than sound, you can tune the hell out of the sound. Lose the cat, install full system.
yes, zee is an americanisation. In the English language it is pronounced ZED. Do americans call a zed one a zee one? That would be stupid when the rest of the world knows that ZED is how ya say it bro
joe bloggz Bee, Cee, Dee, Eee, Gee, Pee, Tee... Zee. Not Bed, Ced, Ded, Eed, Ged... Zed. Nah man, Zee is it. It's called consistency! Lol. Just say it how you want, but we are the improved version right? ;)
Bjørn van Rumpt I think it would be an ideal first 1000cc bike as it's so easy to ride and be in total control of. Naked bikes have the power now and they have become so popular. I love it
Is this a new bike or did hit have the first service yet? There is a difference. Also, with 160 hp on about 300 kg (bike + rider) that would be more like 900 hp on a car like BMW 520 and maybe 700 hp on a Ferrari.
FredricF it was test bike so I am not sure on the service. When I was riding and concentrating I couldn't remember the exact power to wait between a 160hp bike and a car. My Fireblade was equivalent to a 675hp car. Sorry chatting and riding is really hard to do at the same time. Thanks mate
i really don't know what to buy z1000 - looks better 1000r -more power -more safety electronic -quickshift you get much more on the s1000r for the price but z1000 looks just awesome
That's exactly how I would feel about it. If it was me and I could wait I would see what happens in March when the new BMW comes out. If you park them beside each other people always pick the z1000 for looks.
