This is such a super helpful review! I know it’s a long shot but I wanted to ask if you knew any cheaper fabric paints for black clothing? I want to paint a cartoon character on a black 100% cotton hoodie for my s/o that’ll last as long as possible for as cheap as possible (sorry honey!)

Hi Maia! It's no problem, I understand that when you need to make just a one project, buying the whole set of paints might feel too expensive and basically unnecessary. Depending on where you're from and what offers are available in your stores or online, you could opt for these small sets: 1) Mont Marte Signature Fabric Paint (12pcs) amzn.to/3tOTC2U . These paints have a range to choose from: starting from 8 jars in a pack till 36. See the variety and the price you can afford. The amount of paints in jars should be enough for a few small projects. 2) Pebeo Setacolor Opaque starter kit, perfect for a hoodie: amzn.to/3UZujay It's at a great price right now, so a definite recommendation! I do also suggest you to watch the lessons about design heat fixing , to make sure it'll last as long as possible. And of course if you want to learn more, join the open Course Fabric Painting Foundations. Good luck! PS: if you feel like, share your work with us on community Forum, tell how was your process and how happy your s/o was to receive it! Here's the link: www.fabricpaintingcoach.com/forum/talks

I appreciate your reviews and videos and enjoy your designs! I had a question about the texture about Jacquard textile colors. Does it become stiff or stay soft with the texture of the shirt? I'm looking to do a project which requires soft fabric paint, and have been between Jacquard textile, Mont Marte, SoSoft and Pebeo but am unsure which to use. Thank you!

Hello! Thank you for the kind words 🙂 All the fabric paints that you've mentioned are of good quality. Jacquard Textile Colors, Pebeo Setacolor and Mont Marte do not stiffen the fabric, SoSoft I haven't had the chance to test yet. Remember, that softness of your painting will mainly depend on application technique. Do it right, and you won't have to worry. I usually pick the paint brand depending on the task, since each of them has somewhat different characteristics. If your project will be based on a light colored textiles,than you really can choose any one of these paints, since you won't need to apply many layers of paint. For dark fabric, you'll need an opaque paint. Pebeo has a specific line for dark clothes called Setacolor Opaque. Jacquard and Mont Marte are less opaque, and will require a base coat prior. If you would like to have some deeper knowledge about these things, make sure to have a look at an open course Fabric Painting Foundations, it's free for everyone who wants to learn fabric painting from scratch and have a guidance, to avoid mistakes on the road www.fabricpaintingcoach.com/challenges Good luck! PS: If you'll have some difficulties with you project, you're welcome to post on the Forum of our fabric painting community, to get support. You may attach pictures of your work there too. www.fabricpaintingcoach.com/forum/talks Cheers!

Hello...I am using this kind of paint and I made a slight mistake and I'd like to get it off. It's on a piece that I can't wash because it's too big (and I don't want to ruin the rest of it). How would you suggest getting it off? It has already dried for about a day and hasn't been heat set. Thanks!!
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 5 месяцев назад
Hello! Even though Jacquard Textile washes off (smears) if not heat set, it still doesn't go away without a trace. Mistakes on fabric are usually a big pain, especially when the project is still in the process. Seeing that I had a similar experience with this paint, I wouldn't suggest you to try and do a spot wash for the area with mistake. Since I can't see the type of issue that happened, it'll be hard to advise now. I do have a couple ideas, but for that I'll need to see the stain. Could you take a picture and post it here: www.fabricpaintingcoach.com/fabric-painting-forum/talks ? Here on Forum people usually upload their projects that they need help with and based on visual we can assist.

Thank you for the information! I want to paint a hoodie, what material does it need to be? I found one that is 60% cotton and 40% synthetic, is that good enough or do I have to find something with more cotton?
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach Год назад
Hi! Yes, you can definitely paint on this hoodie. Some fabric paints are particular about synthetic fiber percentage in a garment (i.e not more than 20%), while others are suitable for either cotton, or purely synthetic clothes. Ideally, for painting are best either cotton clothes with a minimum addition of synthetics (up to 30%), or just completely synthetic textiles. Therefore, based on the type of fabric we make a choice about a brand of fabric paint. I hope it was helpful. Good luck with your project 🌿

I’ve been looking into fabric paint for denim. My work would be mostly white paint on black denim, Is there anything out there that you would suggest more/ has more assured quality as far as washing?
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 2 года назад
Hello! White on black - it has to be definitely some good opaque paint. I enjoy working with Pebeo Setacolor Opaque. It'll require only 2-3 layers for bright white elements on dark denim. However,if you'll need to add some details in black color as a top layer, do not use Setacolor Opaque black paint - this is Pebeo's flaw, their black washer off if applied on top. That's why we use black paint from Setacolor Light fabrics instead. When I'll try Jacquard Super Opaque (white) I'll let you know, it's also a promising fabric paint, but I need to check their softness for it not to resemble Jacquard Neopaque. Mont Marte fabric paint could also give fine results,but the problem is that it's sold ,as far as I've encountered, only in paint sets and in a very small jar sizes ...

Hi:) I recently painted the back panel of a dark denim jacket in Jacquard paints, and want to heat set it. Should I iron it for the three minutes to properly set the paint? I wasn’t sure on the time. There is also Tulip fabric paint on the jacket. Thank you:)
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 2 года назад
HI Meghann! Great, how was your experience with these paints? I'd recommend to iron the part painted with Jacquard Textile for not less than 5(!) minutes, especially since we're talking about denim. The design elements created with Tulip, don't require such a long heat setting. All other important details related to this topic I shared in this open lesson ru-vid.comUgkxIlUdIw4CFXX5VvPmhNfldNvdJfYi8_kT Good luck!

@@FabricPaintingCoach thank you so much for your reply! I painted a solid picture on the back panel of a denim jacket with the Jacquard, and painted some line work with the Tulip paint over parts of the Jacquard painting. The rest of the jacket is Tulip line painting on straight denim. And thank you; I’ll definitely check out the forum!

I am always making zombie bl00d shirts for all the kids We just had a have a k!ller bday party and I had to make 20 shirts for all the kids And always at Halloween time as well But they were all just one time use because I only had stuff around the house I used. Like the body paint and zombie bl00d from Halloween costumes. 😂😂😂 So I need a good paint That won’t wash away or bleed. So we can keep the shirts for future use I put bl00dy handprints and red bl00d and dark dried bl00d color all over. With dirt stains (using makeup pallets before 😂)

Hi, do you know the recommended heat setting?
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 2 года назад
Hi, on the lable of paint jar it's suggested to iron on reverse side for at least 30seconds. On practice, it should be way longer. Around 4-5minuts, on cotton setting, if you're ironing through a cotton sheet. This paint is sensitive to wash so heat setting should be very thorough
@RaoulWertz
@RaoulWertz 7 месяцев назад
The comment above states to iron on reverse side. However, the video demonstration shoes ironing on the paint side. Which is correct? Should both sides be ironed through a cotton sheet? Thank you. @@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 7 месяцев назад
Hi! To iron on the reverse side is what's written on the label. It is ok in general, however, more often than not, paint goes to the fabric's backside, so it really isn't practical to run a hot iron on paint in any case... That's why, ironing through a cotton sheet but on the right side is more straightforward and quite effective. Doing it on both sides, though, will be a double good job, especially when it comes to Jacquard Textile. Thanks for your thoughtful question 💯👏

It will depend on the drawing tool (art materials) you're using to create a sketch with. If you'll make a sketch with regular pencil or a pen, or transfer the image onto a white t-shirt using dark colored carbon paper, and then will paint it over - such lines are likely to stay visible from under the paint layer. There are however, special pens and markers which disappear on their own, if you make them wet or over the time. We have a very detailed lesson dedicated to image transferring techniques to fabric in the free course Fabric Painting Foundations , you're welcome to join www.fabricpaintingcoach.com/challenges

hi. I also draw and I tried these paints, terrible quality! I do not recommend! If you just wipe it with a wet cloth over the pattern, nothing will happen! after washing in a wet state, everything will be clear, yesterday I washed a denim jacket, the work is ruined! there were pieces of paint, I do not advise! and be careful especially if you are making a client !
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 2 года назад
Hi, thanks for sharing your experience, it's so sad to hear that your painting has been ruined.... Jacquard Textile has indeed so far proved to be a tricky paint, that requires a lot of work. One thing that I can assume that could go wrong here, is not enough time of heat setting of painting. I've faced quite a few issues so far with Jacquard colors for fabric, however it also a fact based on my personal experience too, that this fabric paint doesn't wash away if it's been properly fixed.
