I used acrylic paint and fabric softener as a fabric medium would this still work ??
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 27 дней назад
Hi, fabric softener has different properties . It is actually advised not to use fabric softener during laundry of painted designs and also to wash it off prior to painting, as it prevents a proper bond between paint and textile fibers.

@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach Месяц назад
Hi! Most brands which produce fabric paints have a variety that includes glitter. Among those that I've tried, I could recommend Setacolor Glitter, Javanna Glitter fabric paint, Tulip Glitter and Crystals, etc... You could also make your own glitter fabric paint, by simply adding a moderate amount of fine glitter powder of desired shade into your fabric colors prior to paint application. I'll have a video- demo on this channel soon on the topic of glitter and shimmering fabric paints, which, hopefully, will be helpful for you👏🏼

Hi, Camel's acrylic paint on fabric will act as any other acrylics. This is the reason the brand has a special line of paints for fabric. It's quite available, and very affordable in small jars as compared to other fabric paint brands.

If you use fabric paint and follow these steps, will it be okay in a washer, not dryer but just washer?
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 2 месяца назад
Yes, sure. I do show in many of my paint reviews how painted fabric looks like after a machine wash. But to make sure that laundry cycle doesn't damage your design, there are a few things also to keep in mind in terms of painting technology (it matters how you apply paint, how you let it set and how many days the finished design has been resting after ironing,as it is not recommended to wash it as soon as it's been heat set). Hope you'll find these helpful. Good luck

I would like to start experimenting with creating wearable art so I’ve been doing some research into the best quality fabric paints and trying to learn the best techniques. Hi I just found your page it is awesome! I have a couple questions when it comes to heat setting and washing. How long inbetween do you let the fabrics dry with the paint until you can iron? Also, how long after heat setting can you then wash the fabric? Thank you!
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 4 месяца назад
Hi! Thanks for your feedback! To answer your first question, it's advised to give at least 4 hours after painting was completed before setting it with an iron. However, since drying time varies due to to a number of paint layers and paint brands, it's safer to let it rest overnight. Washing is best to delay for as long as possible. Otherwise after 7 days is a good practice.

Great videos. Do you have any advice/experience painting for painting fabric/synthetic shoes? Specifically jacquard fabric paint. Thanks!
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 4 месяца назад
Hi, yes sure, Jacquard Textile fabric paint is a good option for light colored canvas shoes. You will, however, need to heat set the paint on shoes as well, since it's likely that they'll be laundered/washed at some point. The same paint is a go for light colored synthetic shoes as well, since Jacquard Textile is suitable for both natural and man-made fabrics. In case the shoes you're taking about include some faux/genuine leather patches you can safely use Jacquard Neopaque, it works very well on all nonporous surfaces as well as dark colored ones. Neopaque doesn't need heat fixing. And while I didn't like it's performance on wearable fabrics, it can feel quite alright on canvas shoes, as there's no requirement for paint softness.

Hi! Thank you for your very informative video. Just wondering if these paints work on spandex as well?? I want the same water color effect as you had on stretchy fabrics such as Lycra and power mesh. (Trying to paint leotards for rhythmic gymnastics) Any advice would be appreciated🙏
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 4 месяца назад
Hi! Thanks for your feedback, yes you most certainly can use this brand on spandex and as this video shows, they perform well when diluted! In terms of tips, I can add the following as I myself am a big fan of painting on stretchy synthetic textiles like nylon and alike: 💧When working wet on wet, keep a paper towel handy to quickly dab on excess water. Spandex, being a thin fabric, is very forgiving and lets us correct mistakes easily. 💨 Let the first layer dry, as per the usual technology. You may use hair dryer confidently as to speed up the drying time, since watercolor technique can take forever otherwise... 🥞Work with layers carefully. Here on spandex you won't be able to apply paint too generously, due to the fact that this textile is too delicate. PS. Remember, that diluted paint looks good on light colors only. Otherwise, best of luck with your project! Enjoy

Fabric paint doesn't show up good you need 20 layer just to get it white mabe if you have time you can do Fabric paint I guess it just takes 4 every
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 4 месяца назад
If you use a not opaque fabric paint (the one which is good for use on light colored fabrics only), indeed it can take about five layers to reach a decent white color on darker textiles... However, the technique is important too. Sometimes people keep adding paint layers one after the other, not letting the previous one to dry completely. That's wrong. So the key to fabric painting that doesn't "take forever" is to pick the right type of fabric paint and follow basic fabric painting technology.

@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 5 месяцев назад
@liannetakeda9474 tights! Great👍🏼 I also have been painting on tights for a long time , and found that both approaches work: with or without "cardboard". To safeguard fabric from sticking to the board too much, it's still best to remove it after making sure that paint has become completely dry. Then neatly straighten each "leg", cover with cotton sheet and iron in small steps, making sure that nylon doesn't crinkle under the protective sheet. You could set iron on a setting lower than Cotton, so as not to overheat the nylon tights. Otherwise, unless you're not planning to wash your design and this project is a one off for a costume, in this case you could leave the tights without heat setting. We apply the heat to fabric paint only to ensure it's permanence. Good luck 👏🏼

Hi, I just purchased a black adidas jacket with the white stripes. I would like to paint those stripes black. What would be the best paint to use? The jacket is made of Polyester&Nylon . Thanks
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 6 месяцев назад
Hi! For synthetic textiles in my experience Pebeo Setacolor works best. amzn.to/3Umcip6 Also, if these aren't available to you, Jacquard Textile is a viable option for man-made fabrics too. amzn.to/3z9TAUk You can find both brands offering black paint jars sold individually as well. Make sure to heat set the paint once it's dry: iron without steam on Cotton setting or lower since you're painting on polyester; through a cotton sheet. Touch the protective sheet with your palm to ensure it's hot enough but not burning, as excessive heating might damage your jacket. I hope you'll succeed in your project! Ask for more advice if needed and share your experience with fabric painting community,if you want to on our Forum www.fabricpaintingcoach.com/fabric-painting-forum Good luck 👍🏼

@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach Месяц назад
Hi, listen, don't worry that much Yes, there is a chance that painting made with acrylics might perform the way I showed in video (cracking, or minor color fading) but that is mostly the result of laundry. Type of denim (regular cotton, or the stretchy kind) is an important factor here. Also, my design has cracked because it was on skinny jeans, and they were stretching on thighs when wearing - so it became visible. It's less likely to get that obvious issues if you painted let's say on a denim jacket or a hat. I hope your artwork will stay put and beautiful for a long time. All in all, acrylics ARE a reliable type of paint, just not as soft and flexible as the fabric paint.
