I enjoyed the comparison. Thanks for being fair and controlled. I appreciate saving money, time, effort and disappointment. Not just the paint cost, so does the garment.

Thanks for this. I just ordered the Jacquard before seeing this. Planning to paint a black rain jacket so the stiffness is probably not a problem but the opacity could be!
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 2 года назад
Hi Eddie, thanks for this comment. You know, it might actually even work better in rain jacket, than on fabric. Here's why: rain jacket's fabric is waterproof, as is leather. Hence no absorbing will be happening, thus paint won't be "falling in" the fibers leaving just a trace of pigment. I really appreciated this paint when worked on leather, there's a video about painting on leather wallet. There Opacity wasn't a problem, just need a couple of layers but thin ones👏 I hope your project will turn out awesome. I've been willing to paint on such garment for a while too, but the problem is we hardly have any rain) Good luck!

Just curiously since you point out that a paint made specifically for fabric is preferable why did you choose Jaquard's Neopaque line instead of their Dynaflow line which is specifically for fabric painting. Jacquard recommends the Dynaflow line for fabric painting or one their multiple lines of dyes for fabric? Did you speak to other fabric or mixed media artist regarding the use of Jacquard products of fabrics? I'm not trying to challenge you results, in fact I'm anxious to try Setacolor and appreciate your thorough research. Just a note: when I do use Neopaque (and it's metallic companion Lumiere) on fabric (usually on silk or muslin) and I prefer a softer hand to the resulting fabric I add Golden GAC 900 to the paint. Note however that it requires heat setting if used on wearable item. Thanks for your excellent comparison, I tend to look for some more of your videos since it's hard to find experienced artists in the fabric painting field.

Thank you for such a constructive feedback 🌷 The case is that Jacquard Dyenaflow is a very runny fabric paint, which wouldn't be able to do the job I intended to using Neopaque and Setacolor [that is to paint a design with controlled brush strokes]. Dyenaflow is great for abstract art and silk painting where transparency and high pigmentation are most valued.

this is going to be a bizarre question, but i have possibly a very odd use for the neopaque white. i have some 100% polyester cloth that is currently a yellowish off-white color, that i wish to be closer to a plain white or very light gray. i found a source saying that the color of polyester is set when its made, and cannot be dyed or changed (with bleach, bluing agent, etc) i'm wondering if i can greatly dilute a jar in a pail of water, with perhaps a 1:8 ratio of paint to water and drop the cloth in - at that ratio, would it still be able to pigment the fabric without changing the texture, etc?
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 2 года назад
Hello, really your question calls for an experiment. I'd use a piece of this fabric, if possible, and try it out first. Instead of creating a "bath", pour this liquid into a spray bottle (you know, like from a spray deodorant, or some travel size bottle) and spray it over the fabric. Regarding the softness of fabric in the end, I still have doubts. Because when I tried using this paint diluting with water to paint clouds in watercolor technique, t-shirt still felt very uncomfortable. Although,I didn't dilute it 1:8 , as you're planning 🤭 Ok, good luck, let me know how was it;)

The Rit dye company makes a synthetic dye that you can use on polyester. You have to,warm it on the stove, so your fabric would have to fit in a large cooking pot

Hi, does anyone know how to do this kind of work on a dog leash (made of nylon)? Is acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium the best option? Thanks!
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 2 года назад
Hi! Acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium is in no way a better thing than fabric paint. However, if you're not planning to regularly wash the leash, even regular acrylics will do the job. Regarding your question of HOW to paint on leash, we'll need a bit of info about what exactly you'd like to create there? In this way I could suggest you the technique...

Do you think the Jaquard white would work well with Velcro? I just ordered it
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 2 года назад
Velcro - you mean like tailor kind of velcro ( with closure purpose)? Jacquard Neopaque is suitable for most of surfaces, it should work, but if it's for the kind of velcro that I asked about, then it will require a thorough job to cover it up

Hi, do you mean using which fabric paint brand? Application technique could vary, but so far I have a good experience on this type of synthetic fabric with Pebeo Setacolor and Jacquard Textile. Both should be heat fixed though, even on such a gentle material.

@@FabricPaintingCoach Not sure which brand to use yet. Thanks so much for the fast reply. I think I will be airbrushing a spandex dance suit but hard to find resources on this process
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach 6 месяцев назад
@DashMalone indeed, airbrushing method in fabric painting is a rare skill. Both these paints will do a good job though. I only encounter stickiness on spandex material if layered the paint on to thickly, or when not letting it dry properly. If you'll feel like sharing, please show your work once done and tell your experience. I'd love to see and others, I'm sure, too. You could do it on FPC Forum, there's. Hi! In which part? In this review I've been using only Fabric paint - Setacolor and on the other two balloons - Jacquard Neopaque. I do not use anything fabric paint as a base coat

I used Pebeo Setacolor on a shirt, 100% cotton, then I used an iron for 5 minutes and wanted to give it as a gift right away, but I thought it would be nice to find out first that they are durable, so that there would be no disgust that the recipient would be disappointed after the first wash. Well, and after washing them at 30 degrees I am disappointed, because the paints are not durable at all. What could have gone wrong?
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach Год назад
Hi Monia, so sorry to hear that your work didn't turn out the way you expected.... As any other fabric paint, Setacolor has to be used following textile painting techniques, which sometimes people can skip on here and there... To be able to help you find the reason what could have gone wrong, take me through your painting process step by step, like: what type of design is it? What's the color of a shirt, is it light or dark? How many paint layers have you applied and whether or not you'd let them dry completely before applying the next one? Have you used any other paint together with Setacolor? How many hours your design was allowed to rest before ironing?How many days have passed before you washed the shirt? There really can be one or two "hick ups " which may disturb paint's integrity/permanence... So let me know ok?
@moniaes.4299
@moniaes.4299 Год назад
@@FabricPaintingCoach so let's get started :) I painted the design with a brush- thin and flat. I also wanted to make a light background at the beginning by stamping the fabric with a sponge, but it didn't work out so well. I see that part of the background has also washed out. The pattern is applied to the back of the shirt and takes up a large part of the garment. The shirt is 100% cotton and is navy blue in color. Initially, I wanted to apply only one coat of paint so that there would not be too much of it and so that it would not crack during use and washing. But in the course of painting I found that in places I had to add some paint, it was not a thick layer. I think the paint dried before I put on the second layer, but maybe it was different? It's hard to say. I only used Setacolor, I don't have any other paints and these are the first paints I'm using, I hope I won't get discouraged. I think it took 2-3 days before I ironed the shirt. After a week after ironing, I washed the shirt.
@FabricPaintingCoach
@FabricPaintingCoach Год назад
Thanks, this gave me more idea... So for the most part you did things correctly, especially regarding heat setting and laundry 👍 However, the major problem here is with paint application approach. This is exactly what we're focusing at in Fabric Painting Foundations open course. 1) paint layers: they should be thin and a few. If your concern is that paint may crack - then the best way to overcome this fear is by applying thin (but proper) paint layers and make at least two of them! I teach that first layer is to be considered as a base coat, which goes into the fibers of textiles and should always be followed by another paint layer, even on light colored fabrics. Very high chances that paint will look like it's faded, if you've applied only one layer.... 2) one has to be sure that the previous paint layer is dry, before applying the next one. That's a must Longer explanation would be excessive here in comments, so if you're interested in it, I'd recommend enrolling in the free course, since I have created it specifically to address concerns of beginners to help avoid mistakes from the start. It's easy to get discouraged when something goes wrong, but one should definitely give oneself a benefit of the doubt, when it's just the start of a journey 😉 If you did enjoy painting on fabric, give it another try, and one more after that. Mistakes happen ever so often, what's important, is that you can do it over. You're welcome to join FPC community, we have a Forum, free beginner Course and more advanced masterclasses at FabricPaintingCoach.com . I hope this was helpful 🌷
