A responsible parent understands the importance of not resorting to physical or verbal abuse towards their child. Effective communication is crucial, and setting clear expectations for behavior is key. While I may not know the person mentioned personally, I can share my perspective on how I approach discipline with my own daughter. I prefer using minimal force when disciplining my child, emphasizing the connection between disobedience and consequences. After administering discipline, I make it a point to explain that my actions stem from a desire for her to learn and be obedient, not to inflict harm. I stress the distinction between discipline and abuse, underscoring that any form of excessive force from others would be considered abusive. Open communication plays a vital role in helping children understand the difference between discipline and abuse. In our case, my child's involvement in karate has contributed to her comprehension of the consequences of using excessive physical force. I believe children are capable of understanding more than we might give them credit for, and my daughter, in particular, has shown remarkable intelligence from a young age. Despite attempts at non-physical disciplinary measures, there are instances where conventional methods prove ineffective. In such cases, introducing the possibility of a physical response, such as a spanking, is considered. However, it's essential to note that this is not the preferred approach, and alternative consequences are usually explored first. While my daughter occasionally displays indifference to timeouts or the removal of privileges, it doesn't necessarily lead to physical discipline. Instead, creative consequences may be employed, such as threatening to dispose of toys or presenting the option of a spanking as a last resort. The goal is to convey the seriousness of disobedience without resorting to physical measures whenever possible. In certain situations, such as when my daughter's safety is at risk or if she engages in physically harmful behavior, a measured response may involve resorting to spanking. For instance, playing in the road despite explicit instructions would warrant a more immediate and firm disciplinary action. It's crucial to adapt disciplinary approaches based on the unique needs and behaviors of each child. Striking a balance between firmness and understanding is essential to fostering a healthy parent-child relationship.

He told me to take it off and when I refused he got angrier and angrier. I know he disapproved of my sexuality but we've yet to have an actual conversation in over a year about if he has changed simply because he doesn't reach out. Just because straight couples can’t have biological children of their doesn’t mean procreation isn’t magnificent. If you don’t set boundaries for your kids, such as sleep, nutrition,hygiene, mental health, autonomy, they will turn out mirroring other kids or adults they see because somebody has to teach them said boundaries in a society or they will become animalistic. My kid doesn’t like to wear jeans nor likes his locs cleaned up. If it were up to him he wouldn’t care about his appearance. It’s my job to educate him on his appearance because we don’t live in the woods, we live amongst people that will treat you how how you look. I grew up with a biological mother and a biological father. Both of them were narcissists; I was abused emotionally, psychologically and physically. They weren’t loving, caring or supportive; all they spreaded in my life was toxicity and utter chaos. I’m 26 and still healing from the Complex PTSD I developed from my child abuse. I KNOW without question that I would have been better off with two loving same-sex parents like Erik and his husband, than with my two toxic biological parents. I feel sorry for the queer parents and the children of queer parents in this debate, it must have been so hard to hear people tell you you’re bad parents or you were missing something growing up with same sex parents when they don’t even know you… and I cannot BELIEVE the things that were said about spanking, as if it was something acceptable or normal: it’s physical violence, it’s physical abuse. First of all children need repetition and redirection. And they have no impulse control. So instead of spanking and then talking about it, maybe talk to her about why it's unsafe and then redirect her to something she CAN climb so she isn't climbing the thing that's not safe for her to. Cause if you tell her once then walk away and she does it again, spanking is not the fix all. If anything you're instilling fear, not understanding.

Can I just say that as a kid with straight parents who love me a lot, the whole stuff about the "role of the mother" is absolute hogwash? My dad is so much more nurturing than my mom. He played with us as kids, read to us, cooked for us and did a lot of the "mom stuff" but he was never my mom, he was and is my dad. He's also masculine, he's just the nurturing type. And for her part, my mom was always loving but she is much better with older kids she can relate to on a conversation level and just isn't the most tactile. She still is feminine and my mom. Like, can we stop pretending fathers can't be nurturing? They can. Stop lying to yourselves. Men are perfectly capable of being men and bonding with their children just as much as mothers.

@MB-yl9hm
@MB-yl9hm Год назад
I think that's mostly based on the fact that women literally nurture their children by virtue of being mothers. My children literally lived inside of me for 9 months, and then I continued to feed them with my body for months afterwards. That is the most nurturing thing you can do. Also I don't believe the consensus is that men can't be nurturing, that's the whole point of being a parent after all, but women on average tend to be more sensitive, agreeable, conscientious, etc., which translates to being more stereotypically nurturing ON AVERAGE compared to men who, on average, are more assertive, tolerant to risk, discerning, etc., which does not translate as stereotypically nurturing. There's always exceptions to the rule, but if you were to pick out a random mother and father out of the entire world's population, you could bet money that the former will exhibit typically feminine/maternal traits and the latter will exhibit typically masculine/paternal traits. This is why it's rarely helpful to look at individual experiences through the lens of group truths. Like BMI, on a population level it's an accurate and useful measure of health, but not so much for the individual.

I’ve got to say that I think your channel is absolutely amazing. On so many different levels. Hard questions, with unapologetic reactions from both sides. Real life stories, traumatic situations, reason for many of our unanswered questions that come to light!! Brought into the sunlight of a new dawning for a new era of headlining the errors of our past! A new perspective of sharing our views! Haha! The “View-ture”!

i feel so bad for elizabeth. it seems like she has a wonderful and loving relationship with her dads and then we have these parents who openly admit support for spanking their kids, etc., telling her that she missed out on a mom and implying something wrong with her and her family. absolutely unbelievable that people still think like this.

Heck I'm Christian and conservative and I felt bad! I thought it was too much. Even if they believe it, they shouldn't say it. It's too painful. And it's not like she can go back in time and change her parents? So what's the point of hurting her on the fact that she doesn't have a mother.

I absolutely LOVE and appreciate being able to hear BOTH sides to any topic at hand on this channel. The only issue I have is that they’re mostly anecdotal. I don’t believe you can reach a common ground based on personal stories. We need facts, we need data, research, proof. You could still hold onto your beliefs after all the facts are laid out, but so far I’m not hearing enough HARD facts on any topics.

When Elizabeth started crying about a real issue she faces and has faced throughout her life and non of the conservatives comforted her or even tried to understand her I immediately understood that no matter how hard you try, if someone is just completely ignorant to your struggle, there's no middle ground at all, they're only interested in their own belief system Edit: Thx for the likes!! And for queer folks out there, don't try to debate with this type of people, It's not worth giving them a voice in the first place

The conservatives invalidating Elizabeth's family and they way she was raised is especially hilarious when the conservatives talk about the terrible relationships they have with their hetero parents, while she's praising her two fathers and is clearly very proud of them.

Invalidating is so often a weirdly used concept, this is a discussion, people should provide you baseline respect, not simple validation of whatever your stated experience is on the topic. I agree with you otherwise though, sounds like she had loving and supporting parents, and a lot of the guy's points were a bit weak in that back and forth.
