Dr. Rupa Wong, eye surgeon, loves lash extensions. Here she talks about if they actually cause your natural lashes to break or fall out and the science behind it all. #lashextensions #lashes #naturallashes
EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS!!!! my lashes r really long i’ve been trying to find a video that explains this deeply. my friends say yes girl get them but i think i’m better off leaving well enough alone
Thank you so much, amazing and informative video!! I just got into lashes with extensions or falsies etc.. and have been looking at all your videos to inform myself what is best and safe. A MILLION THANKS AND BLESSINGS. Your information and personality is amazing and your patients are soo lucky to have you as their doctor!
Hi Doctor Rupa. So so glad that I found this video. I just had my extensions removed (only had one set and one fill) and my left eye has the shortest lashes. I took a 3 year break between extensions. Looking forward to them growing back😭❤
I’m a lash artist creating content for our salon new hires. This is really good materials especially coming from someone that knows the science behind the eyes! THANK YOU. The lash industry have been dying to have doctors to do keep a dive into our adhesives. At the end of the day are just aestheticians, not doctors... we have limited education and resources in terms of the science behind the making of the adhesives. In the industry Right now adhesives are our #1 concern. We’re loosing clients left and right because people have become so sensitive over time.
YES! And that's the thing, you can develop a sensitivity/allergy even after months of using the adhesive without issue. I hope the industry creates some better alternatives.
last artist? what kind of art is to ruin people's lashes and eyes? what the hell is wrong with you people. and yes i am a woman. i am happy with my natural God given eyelashes.
Yes please would love to see a study on this. Experiencing this now. I was recently diagnosed with dry eye syndrome after 2 lasik procedures and my eye Dr recommended not to do them but I just can't give them up. I was doing them for 10+ years and never had an issue until after my second lasik procedure
Hi there! Future Esthetician and hopefully future Nurse after completing esthetician school! I find this video so insightful and love your take on the reality of lash extensions but giving the tips of the SAFE ways to go about this process. Taking breaks is a necessity - clients who go every 2 weeks for a year will ruin their lashes regardless due to excessive wear and tear. It just happens with them - there are so many external factors in which play a part. But it is also about the type of client and being a good candidate (understanding your sensitivities, cleansing, taking proper care, and taking breaks). Giving your lashes breaks between sets even if you do fills for a few months, is again so necessary in maintaining the integrity of your natural lashes. The problem with our industry is no one tells you this for A. More Money or B. They simply do not know. That is the sad truth. So unless we are educating our clients, they won't understand and we will have to face into the dilemma with them when their lashes are no longer full and healthy naturally. Taking a good 3 month break with daily lash serum and then getting a full set with refills every two weeks with proper cleansing can leave the lashes continuously looking healthy. They get you addicted to that look and that is what sells! This is why it is important as a lash artist to offer other types of services for when that client wants to take a break and do something more natural with their lashes for awhile. Tinting is a great alternative to extensions and is waaaay less harsh chemically on the lashes themselves and gives a soft look for a few weeks without the use of mascara (which can also cause fallout and irritation). So you just have to be careful and know your stuff! :) Thanks again for being an awesome doctor! I look up to female medical leaders like you!
Greetings. I just recently found your channel and was wondering how often you post? Also, I love how you’re so informative in all the videos you make and that you cite credible sources. I find it ironic that I’m a healthcare studies major and you’re a healthcare professional and I’m just super honed in when you start talking all things eyes!
Thank you so much! I used to post once a week but summertime and my eye clinic and all that has kept me busy. I'm hoping to resume more frequent posting this week! I love makeup and I realized that most of my patients were almost embarassed to ask about extensions, magnetic lashes etc. In fact, if they had seen my husband (also ophthalmologist, we have our own eye clinic), then they never asked him. At least with me they felt comfortable enough to broach the subject! I figured I'd do videos on these topics since there are probably tons of other people out there who have these same questions.
I just had my lashes done. First time around had a classic look and the second time around I got a volume set. I was not shown how to clean them and just a few days ago I used dry shampoo for my straight hair (I normally wear it naturally curly) and the dry shampoo irritated my eyes so badly they got swollen and red I was so itchy and rubbed them so much I went from having 60% to 10% of my lashes in tact. I understand I was not the lashes but I think not cleaning them daily/properly plus the allergic reaction to the dry shampoo made my eye lids puffy and red
I’ve been using Latisse in the past and decided to try less expensive alternatives. I didn’t expect drastic results from Dermalmd lash growth serum, but it exceeded my expectations. I saw results after few uses. I noticed my lashes got maybe 20% longer and also fuller. I have sensitive eyes and product doesn’t cause any irritation. The application is super simple.
Well met Dr Wong! I have listened to Dr. Dray for the last few years who as you know is very conservative and I refuse to spend a fortune on skin care perhaps because i've lived in France where less is more and no-one will tell you their secret recipe for food or how they fool the world ... I also swim but in a swimming pool and my lashes used to be very long but I am 66 and not dead yet and so use waterproof mascara which is a pain. I met someone who has extensions that look totally natural so ... by the way watched the entire video and subscribed and I blame Covid 19 for my reduced attention span ... an actual book in my hand is a gift and I got rid of my tv and netflix (amazon prime last thing to go)/ My lashes are shorter because of age; I inherited my Dad's eyebrows and touch them up a bit but ... I get the allergy aspect and am willing to pay more money for someone who knows what they are doing mostly because I am in love which is a very enjoyable form of temporary insanity which may lead to lasting friendship but it is also true that we all put on the faces to meet the faces we meet to quote TS Eliot a fact of life. Intimacy and letting oneself be vulnerable is terrifying. He already knows what I look like ... so many people struggle with how we are perceived and you are obviously drop dead gorgeous and I just wonder why we torment ourslelves (lost my reading glasses:_ Hope this resonates with one of your viewers .... and meanwhile tx!!!!!
Great video! I use individual lashes at home and apply at-home non professional glue, Ardell LashTite, which has 2 ingredients: Methoxyisopropyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, and also denatured alcohol. The Ardell LashTite remover contains Methylpropanediol. Prior to this I used strip lashes with regular (Kiss, Duo, etc) adhesive for several years. When I used the strip lashes & adhesive I would feel irritation throughout the day and get red puffy eyes if I put them on for a few days in a row. Using the LashTite, I feel a little irritation from the glue the first 24-48hrs and then after that not a problem. I have very thick and dark natural eyelashes. The only issues I have had with eyelashes coming off is user error-every week or two when I reapply a new set, I use the lash remover, and sometimes I pull the lashes off too soon. Out comes one or two hairs. That's just on me. My method using LashTite and individuals requires effort but is a good option. It costs me about $5/month. I have friends who use professional glue at home, but I just can't do that & don't think it is responsible. Studies have shown the 3 ingredients in LashTite & LashTite remover to be at worst only mild eye irritants, so even if they last about a week or two I will stick with my route. The nitrocellulose ingredient in the adhesive does irritate my nose and throat, so best used in a ventilated area. Thank you for this scientifically informed video Dr. Wong. nj.gov/health/eoh/rtkweb/documents/fs/1366.pdf
I'm a lash stylist that was trained via Xtreme Lashes. Thankfully, the training program instructed me how to measure specific areas of the eye in order to know what extension lengths & diameters are acceptable to apply to clients. Along with that area of training, we also had to demonstrate the cleansing process in order to receive our certification. Those 2 areas of lash artistry are so important. Thank you so much for providing a detailed explanation to non-lash artists the importance of both areas.. especially the cleaning.
@@jenniferchristopherson yes, I completed mine via the virtual format. Besides myself there was about 5-6 other students in the virtual class. My trainer, Ignasia Garcia, was absolutely wonderful. The other students & I were all able to ask questions at any time & she meet with each of us individually after every vitural session to let us know what we were doing really good & what she'd like for us to improve on. It really exceeded my expectations.
I actually go to a lash lady for 10+ years that uses Xtreme as well and do they even offer one without the black carbon. And which glue do you use on your clients so I can ask my lash lady to use it
@@User5476k I prefer FlexFusion Adhesive. It's medical-grade & hypoallergenic. Anytime another stylist does my lashes & uses the Volume Adhesive my eye burn & water for 10-15 mins afterward.
Watching this now. Did you get them done again? How was another year of doing them? I am new to them and love them so much but just took my first break and I have the tiniest lashes left. Lol
I always say, why put something fake on your natural body, when You can just take care of what You have. I like to keep life simple and beauty doesn’t have to be painful or that expensive, nature has given us all we need to take care. we just have lost ourselves and allowed society to manipulate us on what is beautiful and what’s not.
Omggg thank you so much for educating me on this lash trend..I've been getting extensions for a year now and my biggest fear is yuckkk what do my real lashes look like under these beautiful lashes??? Yikesss
I just my lash extensions for the first time- hybrid and It doesn’t feel heavy. My question is how long of a break do you recommend in-between lash applications?
It definitely caused lash loss for me. I found some of the glue was applied to multiple eyelashes so when the extension just fell out itself it still had all my natural lashes attached where it had waxed them off 😐
I kept applying them and losing my natural lashes any ways I could grow them back my natural lashes were perfect but I got addicted to individuals and now I’ve spoilt it. Just hope I can maintain my self esteem
I actually just got my lashes removed, after getting them done for almost a year. My lashes were very full, and long previous to getting them done. Now they are short and stubby, I regret getting them done initially. They looked very pretty when I had the lash extensions, but this aftermath is not the greatest.
After a year of wearing lash extensiond, my eyes would water and stay watery despite me wiping them. I decided to remove the extensions because I thought is was bizarre.
@@ashleyy8724 of course she says it’s fine because she gets paid to do it. Make the best and healthiest decision for yourself despite what anyone says. 💛
They really do cause lash loss. I wish it wasn't so, because, I do love the way they look. But, I've seen it in my patients and I've witnessed it firsthand too.
I relate to you so much when you said the 4th time you went in for a fill you experienced an allergic reaction. So 3 years later that you made this video, are there any alternative glues that are less likely to give an allergic reaction?
Here is a video I have done on daily glue - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ADT-nnVeI7Y.html Let me know in the comments what you think!
Hello, I'm 46 yrs of age & I found out in 2012 that I have 2 different types of alopecia which you can't tell due to still having a head of full hair & been taking bition & other vitimans for years, however the alopecia did affect my eyebrows which are permanently done by a professional. I started getting eyelash extensions about 2yrs ago bc my real lashes stopped extending real long like they use to when applying mascara & are very sparse/thin. When getting my eyelash extensions I can't always get the look I want due to them being so sparse, so I apply mascara on my extensions to extend my lashes & give me the look I like. Sometimes the lash artist does a better job on my lashes & sometimes not so good & that's annoying. I recently started back up on lash serum, but they say once you use it that you always have to. Please advise any would be greatly appreciated.
Try eating according to scripture. No cheese (do not boil a calf(rennet) in it's mother's milk= cheese is against scripture), no fish without scales fins, no eggs unless the mother was allowed to live ( do not take the bird and the dam aka eggs, so you can live a long life). And here is my advice no gluten (commercial bread is made out of Chinese hair and other toxic things). I was loosing my bottom teeth, once I stopped eating bread and gluten in general, my bottom teeth started to grow back aka remineralize till this day. I'm certain teeth and hair are connected somehow. Anywaysl sure enough a study was done on the aboriginals in 1970s or so and stated that the aboriginals started losing their teeth when put on a "white man's diet" of white flour and white sugar. The most important step is to ask YAHUAH ( you can look up His name, it is the original name of the Almighty from the bible- Hebrew) to heal you. All this and more was only possible because I did just this. If He wills, He will cure you of things you didn't even know were connected or falling apart. This is thee most important step. Hospitals etc. will not tell nor heal you they work in hand with those who run the food/agricultural system. The food and water is killing people. There is so much more but I leave it here. Ask YAHUAH to heal you.
Ahhhh great video :-) thank u ☺️. Ps: i noticed that my contacts don’t dry out as fast with lash extensions when I’m under my bedroom fan so that’s a small unintended plus for me & my eyelash extension set up
I put lashes for the lst time 20 days ago, mos of them fall out but there are still a couple on my left side that is not coming out easily and I don’t want pull them. What should I do? I did in Brazil, now I am back to US. Should I look for a professional ou there is some things I can do at home? I did use cream, light scrub, warm water… nothing!
I actually had to remove mine during the pandemic, because I was looking a little crazy. Did you check out my video here? This worked for me. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SnLClyMa0VI.html
Im a first time to extension eyeslashes. And the beautician did my eyeslashes put too much glue . Used the eyeslashes glue remover to removed the exrension eyeslashes,my permanent eyeslashes came out because of the amount of glue she put on. No more for me
Ok so my only concern is skin aging. When u wear lashes u dont usually rub ur eyes alot, mascara however u will have to rub to remove the mascara. I have been getting mine done for a year now. Now i decided to give them a break but idk if i should be getting back to them or not 😭
I suffer from dry eye , and my lashes are so small it’s frustrating. I’m debating between lash serums or continuing to get lash extensions I know they both have their risks but what would you say is less risky. Thank you so much.
I have naturally long lashes I’m thankful I don’t need or want to wear falsies..I’m def gonna send this video to women I know who wear them constantly lol
Thank you! This was very, very help! I'm centrally blind (with congenital macular dystrophy) so mascara is a serious challenge for me so I've been considering lash extensions but am wary. 1.) Would lash extensions be better/safer than using Latisse? 2.) Does eyelash tinting have the same possible side affects as extensions? 3.) What skills/qualifications/certifications do you look for in a reputable eyelash extension artist? Thank you again for the great video!
Please if you love your natural lashes, don’t get them done! I did and it wasn’t worth it 😒 even though the tech had very good reviews, my lashes were left short and choppy
i absolutely find OUT-rageous these ppl putting false lashes DARE to call themselves artists. what kind of art is to ruin someone's HEALTH and natural beauty???!!! complete de-generation...
