Kenny and Shaq can NEVER give a straight answer because they're afraid of pissing off the current players.Charles is not trying to be nobody's friend. He speaks the truth because he doesn't care about these player's feelings. Thanks Chuck.
All superstars do but the greatest ones don't abuse it.... Nobody can ever yell at guys like Kobe or MJ or Lebron or Duncan for being late. Difference is they would never be late in the first place because they understand the importance of discipline, culture and setting an example.
Dennis Rodman wasn't exactly a normal roleplayer, but yeah, Rodman was never a leader of a team, so him being late wasn't a big deal in terms of team chemistry.
Shaq admitted to being late all the time. I thought he was the best player on the lakers. I get what your trying to say but I feel like, there are exceptions to that "rule"
@@andrewkim2013..... nope!! I like what chuck said about his coach when he was a young player and DR J and Moses Malone got left cuz they were late!!! Lol.... now that is a coach!!!!
Chuck makes a good point though. Shouldn't ever let your superstar player have that much control, just sends the wrong message to the rest of the team. Gotta be a balance
That's why the Spurs were so successful. When players came from other teams and saw Pop chewing out Tim Duncan, they knew they had no chance to get away with anything. Its starts with your " superstar", then everyone else falls in line.
@@missayawk Yup. Once i saw coach pop yelling at Tony Parker's face after Tony made a defensive error. Guess what, they're up by 25 pts in the 4th qtr at that time.
But this is cap. rocketswire.usatoday.com/2019/10/02/rockets-owner-tilman-fertitta-tells-final-hours-of-paul-westbrook-deal/ The rockets owner was the one who shoved the westbrook trade down moreys throat and even bragged about doing so after.
Chuck is the exact opposite of Kenny he always make things sound simple but makes a lot of sense and his not biased also. Dude is not afraid to speak his opinion because he know his always honest and fair. Chuck do his job right.
1:50 shaq: "is harden really abusing power? he's not." 6:30 shaq: "being late once or twice is okay but if you're constantly being late then yes, that's an abuse of power." that's exactly what was reported about harden, that he's constantly late 🤣🤣
Charles Barkley is the most adult on this matter. He gets that you Harden being late and the rockets allowing it, makes it hard for the coaches/management to establish and enforce rules and set order among the team.
Charles on set was a different person than Charles the player though. When guys like Shaq and Charles talk about being disciplined its quite hypocritical.
This. I remember what coach Pop said to Tim Duncan at his retirement ceremony. Pops thanked Timmy for letting the coach 'coach' the team. All the shouting the coach did at Duncan made the rest of the team fall in line and receive the same treatment without any complaints. Made the coach's job easier and actually focus on improving the team instead spending unnecessary energy on these superstar James Harden diva BS. Discipline and establishment of rules was what was so important to the Spur's success and TD deserves so much credit on and off the court for setting the tone of the team.
Right. This is bigger than basketball! For your job, for your siblings game, doing the dishes before your parents get home… it’s good to be on time because it not only benefits you but it helps the others around you too
I never liked Kobe during his playing days but the way he trained and prepared himself was the most professional you could ask from a player. Even after his retirement he said he didn't miss the game because he did absolutely everything he could.
That's what ....he had money and titles but still wanted to be better and trained harder than anyone and never complained...mamba mentality at work....
@@NeilSharks... he was in College.... but, a solid role player in Houston.... I think he made an all star team when Jordan was gone. He was like one of those guys just a step below an all star... a guy that would get you around 15 pts a night.
Shaq be like ''Politicians can get preferential treatment and take some money under the table but it's okay if they give ''donation'' to the community''
Charles is the smartest basketball mind on that panel and it’s not even close. Shaquille won a lot and Kenny won with Hakeem and is articulate so that’s how they got there.
Shaq talking about preferential treatment is like a homosexual explaining why it’s wrong to be homosexual. Talking about constantly putting in the work yet took summers off knowing he could because Kobe was grinding long hours in the gym.
This is a reach, Shaq took summers off mostly because he had just finished making deep playoff runs including 3 straight championships. This would wear down his body. But he got the most blame whenever we didn’t win and had obligations as a team leader. His preferential treatment came with crazy expectations that he delivered on more often than not.
That falls on owners and coaches as well, they are enablers. The only players I believe deserve special treatment and have nothing else to prove now are LeBron, Durant and Curry and im in the middle with Kawhi. Other than those players nobody deserves a pedestal.
The difference between Harden and all those other guys like Kobe, Shaq, MJ, Bron is they got CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS. It’s one thing to put up 50 point triple doubles during the regular season but what really matters is playoff wins and championship rings.
I genuinely think whatever team ends up trading for Harden end up with a poisoned chalice, of course he's an incredible scorer but you have to question how the personality he has shown now will mesh with any existing culture a team has. Plus, if it's a team where they want Harden to play off the ball I look forward to him standing still in the corner for 20+ minutes.
Kobe didn't want to practice with them. He still worked with Phil Jackson and his personal trainers to know the plays and stay fit. Kobe work ethic was immense.
@@TheTabahnator That's why he said Kurt Rambis name first....he was the coach in '99 when Rodman was there. He probably forgot that Dennis wasn't there in 2000 when Phil arrived.
Barley said it right, a consistent bad habit cannot actually make a player really the best. The best has consistent and reliable habits of leadership and considering all the other members of the team. There is a standard which is in the sport, and a standard of the team specifically, you are either fully in that standard or making your own and not part of that team. Barkley has a very clear line of morality and professional decorum. And they are one in building the athletes character and team together.
@@richieblack5530 They played together in 1999. Rodman went there that first year once the Bulls dynasty was over. He had to be talking about Rodman. Who else could he be talking about?
Chuck and Shaq both make great points. But I’m gonna lean towards Chucks opinion. Being late is such a corny excuse and a complete waste of everyone’s time. Westbrook right to be mad.
Long story short: preferential treatment is okay if you’re delivering on the team’s expectations and in the case of James Harden he wasn’t doing that. Those record breaking numbers means nothing if he flamed out so many times in the playoffs
Could say the same about the clippers and PG. If u don't play to the expectations of the team and u get preferential treatment, u lose respect and team chemistry is broken
@@ananth7865 there were reports that him and kawhi could control when the team practices and take constant vacations. Both weren't leaders for there teams and didn't perform when the team needed them most. No respect
@@nibbatello3120 Its 1 year chill. did LeBron win against Dallas ?Besides most of these reports are BS .Remember when kawhi was joining the lakers or that lebron is on steroids and giannis is leaving milwaukee. Don't put too much faith in the media . they just want storylines
Allowing a player to miss practice the day after a game and permitting a player to stay back in between games, is preferential treatment. Flights being delayed, bus rides not leaving on time and film sessions not starting on time due to constant lateness, is abuse of power.
@@LuckyC555 they didn't want to max cuz maybe he's playing alongside Kobe who grinds to be great where as shaq is the opposite but just gifted with talents and size. Shaq has a stubborn ego...Laker wouldn't have any issue giving him max money if he put in the work to improve his game besides just being dominate cuz of his size. Shaq would be considered all time great if he actually improve his free-throw and wasn't the reason why everyone is now doing the hack-a-shaq rule to win or comeback in a game.
somebody has to ask iverson abt this situation reporter: ai, what do u think about this situation about harden skipping practice? ai: practice? not the game, we talkin about practice?
James Harden's track record in the playoffs dont grant him the benefit of the doubt. The fact that he has all this power after how he imploded against the spurs in 2017 is crazy.
I agree with Charles on this one. Mike, Larry, Magic and Kobe had something that many NBA stars lack today and is commitment, work hetic and discipline! That's why those guys were the best 🏀
1:08 No, that's still abuse of power and you know the only reason Shaq said that is because he abused his power and that's why he hated Pat Riley because he couldn't abuse his power anymore there
Even though you have preferential treatment cause you're a superstar you should always still know how to implement discipline and work into yourself cause you ain't there to only be given special treatment... You're there to put work and win a ring
Shaq come on now! There's not a single person over the age of 14, outside of Houston, that is impressed with all of Harden's 50pt triple doubles. He has built 0 legacy for himself.
@@Nick-sr4fe i mean he's an awesome scorer but his play style only works in this era. And he did win that mvp in 2018 but the real mvp that season was Lebron. Also the mvp became a joke as soon as the gave the first unanimous vote to Curry. I'll still call it 0 and agree to disagree with you
Does anyone here try to understand what Kenny saying but really dont? lol His one of those people who trying to look smart but no one really understand what his saying lol
I feel like he's the middle ground between Chuck and Shaq. Cuz Chuck and Shaq are always opposed to each other and if Kenny sides with either one the conversation kinda just ends since it's 2 on 1. I appreciate what he says cuz he isn't as polar as the other two.
Charles is one of the best power forewards in the game......when he speaks to players wrongfully abusing power everyone should listen up instead of hiding away or smoothing over the blatant truth
Have to say I'm so happy to have Inside The NBA Back such an amazing show and after a tough year these guys will bring laughter to the festive season. Merry Xmas You Tube
Leading by example is important for team morale, but for me your superstar preferential treatment wouldn't be a problem as long as it doesn't affect your production.
Or doesn't affect the team. Kawhi and PG have been in LA for one year and we all knew the Clippers culture was toxic since they constantly threw blame around. If everything about Harden and the Rockets is true, it's crazy that it's only coming out now. I never heard about the locker room being toxic or Harden being a hindrance since Harden was the one who carried the team every year. The Harden stuff seems like it didn't affect the team as much as the Kawhi and PG stuff did.
I really wonder what does Kenny add to the show. He's basically a re player that is there to fill the numbers as he is good buddies with the main stars
Micheal Jordan: I never asked anybody to do anything I wouldn't. He was first in practice last to leave. Didn't take days off James Harden: Im not coming to practice im not studying film on a regular when I do come imma be late and imma take days off go party away from the team even in a pandemic and you better get me a team even though I can only play 1 way or trade me This is like a CEO who makes your company Billions but is skimming millions off the top and everyone knows it but turns a blind eye because "the company still makes plenty." "They can afford it." If you're not going to put the work in consistently dont wonder why you don't win anything. I dont care how many triple doubles he puts in now when someone says why won't Harden win? He doesn't work as hard as everyone else. This is why he's a average to below average defensive player. Thats all he wants to be.
