I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to make this video, I had not heard of these until yesterday and researching them was proving insanely frustrating. I will pass on buying these based on the magiv words "not FDA approved" just have to wait until my endo and my ins. co agree that a Libre is justified (typically 3-6 months of checking five times a day which I do now)

Thank you so much. I understand your frustration. These Chinese companies are falsely advertising these devices...something I did not fully realize until I reviewed my 3rd or 4th device. They are preying on the hopes and vulnerabilities of diabetics and I think that is truly disgusting. The manuals all have the disclaimer that they are not medical devices and the data is for reference only--don't treat the data as medical data, yet their advertising seems to claim "medical grade" at every turn. I think it is all disgusting, egregious, and dangerous. They don't care about anyone's health...they just care about taking American dollars. Many of these companies have ceased sending me free units for review, so as long as this channel and my viewers support it, I feel a sense of obligation to just buy the watches with the money generated through ad revenue on this channel to expose the false claims.

Thank you so much for this review!! I was so excited (as a type 1) when I seen one advertised on Facebook. But, like previous comments I couldn’t find any real info. My insurance doesn’t cover CGMs… after using samples they could change my life if I could afford one😢. So ..I was so excited about the watch . Thank you! Won’t be saving up money I don’t have for one!

I wear a medical grade FDA approved Dexcom G6 CGM. If you would like, I could check a half dozen watches for a day each and report how well they match its trends. The G6 isn't absolutely accurate but follows my BG trends closely. I can spot check each watch for uncalibrated accuracy when my BG is stable using a fingerstick meter, and then ship them all back to you.

They are just asking if you can use a blood glucose monitor to compare the accuracy not if it is or isn’t accurate.

Yup, I get it. But I don't have the equipment to draw blood because I don't need to, and I don't really want to have to do that just to review ~$40 cheap, Chinese smartwatches. They definitely respond to something after meals, but many of them require calibration and doing a real glucose test fasted before the first meal and then an hour after the first meal seems more like a clinical study or scientific paper than a simple smartwatch review. Maybe I'll go down that path eventually, but for now I just want to let people know whether or not they should trust their health to these devices. Bottom line: If blood glucose is a concern get a real glucose meter and/or see a doctor regularly. Thank you so much for watching and thank you for your comment!

Sensors are not "cheap" at $100 pop unless you have good health insurance. I can't wait when non-invasive blood glucose watches become reliable and those crazy prices on sensors and having to apply them are gone.

The question that should be answered is not whether the test is accurate. It should be is it consistent? I use a CGM (continuous blood glucose monitor) with a pump and I still have to test my blood frequently as the sensors are also not 100% accurate. The readings vary according to the period and age of the sensors and even then a new sensor takes days to become reasonably accurate. This all comes at a very high cost every month besides the cost of the actual CGM which has to be replaced every year or 2. So the question has to be: **** IS IT REASONABLY CONSISTENT IN IT'S READING ****. If so, then it is a viable alternative to invasive CGM's that are currently used. If not, then do not waste your time. Either way you will always need to test your blood as that will always be the most accurate reading at that point in time, but can be reduced if you have some form of reasonable measurement that is non invasive to guide you.

None of these reviewers will do this. Also, SPO2 meters are fairly cheap, about USD 10 - 20, and a blood pressure monitor from Omron with decent accuracy cost like USD 40.

I started doing blood draws on subsequent reviews and realize it was a waste of blood. These devices are not accurate or reliable.

As a physician of 40 years, no watch accurately shows glucose at all. I use a FREE app on my iPhone called CARDIO to first do my ECG or Pulse rate then add to the record my O2 and glucose in the note. At the end of the month you send a image of the record to your computer for printing or send it to you physician.

I appreciate the time and effort you put into these reviews. I would love to have a CGM, but even with health care they are too expensive for me. Yet I do believe that constant monitoring would help me greatly. As for your early morning higher numbers (not withstanding the accuracy of the watch), it happens. This is a normal process. When you fast, insulin levels start to drop and this triggers a surge of counter-regulatory hormones, including noradrenalin and growth hormone. This is normal, and meant to pull some of the stored sugar from the liver into the blood.

I put off getting a CGM for financial reasons as well. with my insurance, it costs $140 for seven units, each lasting 2 weeks. As you can see, that's $10 per week. I figured that I could use the CGM for the 2 weeks and then perform finger sticks for a week or two giving my fingers a rest. I am very happy that I decided to get them and will likely never do a finger stick again. when I first received my script and inquired with the DMEcopany, there was also a charge for a monitor which was a supposed required purchase even if you had a smartphone to download the app. This "required" monitor wasn't mentioned when I called back and that certainly help because it was somewhere around $100.

I have used Libre freestyle sensors for years and they go up and down with meals and sleeping. They are not 100% accurate, but close enough to help me keep my blood sugar in an acceptable range. I would like a watch to do the same thing. That is why I am researching.

Have you tried taking a blood glucose test or any of the other health test while the watch is on the table and not on your wrist, or does it error out ( if it does work it's a fake), I think this is all marketing of smoke and mirrors. I have a fitness watch that will give me all of the BP, Blood OX, and Heart rate readings while it is on the table (using e.s.p. I guess), Just like the BP test is a guess for most of these fitness monitors (and usually wrong) the glucose test is just simulating results, and if you give it your fasting glucose level it will add that reading to the calculation, (number generator), I have enjoyed your reviews on these watches but understand why people would want a comparison to a real glucose monitor, Just my opinion..............LS

@@DaveTheKayaker Good to know, Do keep up the good reviews, we all would like to know what they can and cannot do, if they can show a swing in glucose after a meal, it is at least an indicator, as far as I can see you are one of the very few that have looked into these watches, and if any part of this technology is valid many will be interested in your results. Good Job. LS

Thank you. As soon as I saw them adding this feature in this new generation of smartwatches I knew this new breed of smartwatches would be in high demand...especially among diabetics. I'm currently wearing the W11 and will have that review within a week. Most of these are measuring *something* going on in the blood, but it is difficult to understand what the data actually means. Body temp, skin color, ambient temperature, movement, etc. all effect these measurements. They do seem to be able to track some response after eating meals and I'm fairly convinced they will eventually get the technology right, but I think we are years away and any credible device will not be less than $200. In the meantime, I've given a couple of these to some really smart physics geeks who are going to tear them down and then try to design a better mousetrap. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! -Dave

They do say that they are not a medical device and should not be used as one. But I know you have to say that also. Even if they are not accurate but are consistently off by the same amount from actual reading then they would give you an idea of where you level is at. If they are not then they are less than useful, even harmful.
@DaveTheKayaker
@DaveTheKayaker Месяц назад
My position is they might be useful as a relative indicator. If you can correlate it to known, medical-grade data then that would be useful, but that is up to each individual to make that correlation for themselves. I don't test my blood glucose regularly nor am I qualified to give any medical advice. I just review potentially useful gadgets hoping someday they become medically relevant.

I bought one, not expecting it to be any good, I had thought the numbers would be no use but had thought the graph might teach me something. Nope! as others have said I think the values and the graph are completely meaningless and when compared to my Contour Next One finger prick tester there is no correlation between the two.

Wow a simple test would be all it takes, do a weeks worth of watch readings at the same time you do the normal accurate glucose monitor readings, this would at least give a ballpark figure of how accurate or inaccurate they are, now i have to order from amazon and test and then return if it is too far out, out by one or even 2 points would be fine for me as i am type 2 and have persistent high readings a watch could be useful, but you are not interested in actually testing them, are you paid for your reviews?
@DaveTheKayaker

These don't work. They show the same spikes every day regardless of when I ate meals. And, no, I am not paid for my reviews. In fact, I purchase most of the watches I review so I can remain completely unbiased.

Personally, If a diabetic uses a CGM device such as Freestyle Libre 2, which now auto updates blood glucose every minute to a smartphone with the Librelink app installed, I say buy a cheap android smart watch that has Bluetooth, NFC WiFi on it &you have an accurate Smart watch that communicates with the libre sensor in you arm, giving you 100% accurate CGM readings displayed on your smart watch 24/7! Cheap & cheerful. 😊
